During colonial times, Paco Park was used as a picturesque burial site for wealthy members of society, both Spanish and Filipino alike, and for the many people who died in the cholera epidemic of 1820. National hero José Rizal was also originally buried here, before finally being laid to rest in Rizal Park. In 1966, the grounds were turned into a national park and have been enjoyed by locals and tourists since.
The leafy area is particularly popular for evening strolls and lunchtime relaxation with weekly concerts and events held here on Fridays throughout the year. Many local weddings are celebrated here, so keep your eyes open for some blushing brides.
With a beautiful stone arch marking its entrance, Paco Park is hard to miss. Once inside, the first things you are likely to notice are the numerous burial vaults in the walls surrounding the park. Although many are now empty, some still contain the remains of those who were originally buried here.
For a different view of the park and a picture-perfect panorama of the city, climb up the stairs to the top of the walls around the park and follow the walkway.
One of the most prominent features of the park is the dome-shaped Chapel of St Pancratius, with its rectangular windows and ivy-covered walls. The interior of the chapel is a simply decorated memorial to the Spanish Governor General drawing visitors inside. Mass is held in this tiny chapel every Sunday.

Located in the Paco district, you can reach Paco Park by walking from Rizal Park or Manila Bay or by taking the light rail to United Nations Station. The park is open daily and there is no admission fee.
