Get off the MTR at Admiralty and take the pedestrian walkway straight through to Pacific Place, a four-storey arcade which houses 5-star hotels, designer clothes shops and a swanky cinema complete with bar and leather seats. It is also home to Hong Kong’s very own Harvey Nichols store. First opened in 1988, the complex was revamped in 2007 under the inspired supervision of British designer Thomas Heatherwick. The redevelopment has given Pacific Place a welcoming atmosphere, and it’s far more sensitive and sophisticated in style than your average shopping centre. There are over 130 high-end shops and designer boutiques spread out on the first three floors, and you’ll find all the big European names here. It’s not all fashion and cosmetics, though you’ll also find electronics and sports stores and a bookshop. The Great Food Hall is a shop on the ground floor where foodies will be in their element. Stock up on gourmet specialities from all corners of the globe, or simply gape at the weird and wonderful foodstuffs you'll see on the shelves. The ground floor is also home to a wide range of eateries, from cheap cafés to classy restaurants. But, if it’s fine dining you’re after, head to one of the three 5-star hotels, all of which have a choice of upmarket restaurants. Nicholini’s, in the Conrad, has been voted “Hong Kong’s Best Restaurant” for 19 years running by Hong Kong Tatler, and Massimo d'Alema, former president of Italy, awarded it the prestigious award of “Insignia of the Italian Restaurant”.After a long day of shopping, you could always wind down with a movie at the AMC, which is definitely among the most luxurious cinemas in the city. All of the six screens here have 1.2-metre-wide leather seats – and, if that's not enough, you can order fine wines and gourmet canapés to keep you going.Pacific Place is at 88 Queensway, and the easiest way to get there by public transport is to take the MTR to Admiralty and take Exit F to get onto the Pacific Place walkway. If you feel like doing some more shopping, you could always go down to the Starstreet Precinct which is a five-minute walk away.
