Ostuni, the “White City” of Salento, is located in the province of Brindisi at an elevation of more than 200 metres above sea level, in the Murgia region, and is one of the most renowned towns in Salento.

Ostuni owes its nickname, the “White City,” to the colour of most of the city’s buildings, especially in the historic centre. In the past, due to the plague, the walls of the houses were covered with lime to make them sterile. This is the origin of the characteristic white colour that makes Ostuni unique and unmistakable.

The historic centre of Ostuni, known to its residents as “La Terra,” is characterised by a labyrinth of winding streets, small squares, alleys, small gardens, and glimpses of the Adriatic Sea. The lower part of the town is surrounded by ancient city walls, which feature the only two city gates that remain intact: Porta Nova and Porta San Demetrio. At the top of the hill stand the Cathedral of Ostuni with its large 24-ray rose window, the Bishop’s Palace, and the old Seminary.

Another place of interest is the Museum of Preclassical Civilisations of Southern Murgia, which houses the cast of Delia, the “Woman of Ostuni”—a pregnant woman who lived 25,000 years ago and was discovered in a cave near the city in 1991. Among the most interesting artefacts are pottery and decorative objects, flint, and stone tools, dating from the Palaeolithic era through the Metal Ages.

One of Puglia’s top tourist attractions is undoubtedly the Ostuni coastline, home to the beach resorts of Rosa Marina, Monticelli, and Costa Merlata.

Among the many traditional dishes of this area, those you simply must try include alici arracanate, ‘ncaprata, mint omelette, brasciole, the potato, rice, and mussel casserole, taralli seasoned with pepper or fennel seeds, and, finally, the signature orecchiette.

    Main distances:

    - Bari-Karol Wojtyla International Airport: 100 km

    - Brindisi Airport (Salento Airport): 36 km

    - Ostuni Train Station: 2.7 km.

The accommodation is located outside the restricted traffic zone (ZTL) and is accessible by car. Paid parking is available at Ostuni Parcheggio, located at Via Antonio Specchia 43, 600 metres from the accommodation.
