A retired submarine from the United States navy known as the Blueback, a massive OMNIMAX cinema, and five differently themed exhibition halls await you at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI). As well as all of the fantastic exhibits, the museum's presentation is very inviting and participatory, and is sure to appeal to children and adults equally.Featured in the famous film, “The Hunt for Red October” with Sean Connery, the Blueback was a rapid-attack submarine in the United States navy for 31 years, and was the last non-nuclear vessel of its kind in the fleet. Follow your sub-aqua adventure with a visit to the Planetarium, which features a dazzling range of lights and lasers in its numerous daily shows. You can also look up at a representation of a starry night sky here. Both of these attractions carry an extra charge on top of the entry price.The OMNIMAX screen is five floors high, showing 3-D images on an enormous scale. Check out the Life Science Hall to see a picture of yourself years into the future courtesy of software which shows how people age. The “Engineer It” section in the Turbine Hall shows you how to construct a building or a bridge, while you can mix real chemicals in the Chemical Lab to see how they react with each other.The Discovery Lab hosts different researchers throughout the week, and you can speak to them and ask any questions prompted by the exhibits. The Science Playground allows children to run around and play in a safe space while learning something – and giving parents a bit of a break!When you've completed your visit, sit and relax at the museum café, which is found on the waterside. OMSI takes between three and four hours to see in full, and is open throughout the year except at Christmas and Thanksgiving.
