Fantistic Villa Short Drive from Tavira, PT
Hosts are polite, helpful, friendly - a US and Belgian couple who left leadership positions at a multi-national corporation, to pursue a simpler life as Hosts of a six-room villa and small vacation caravan site, where "Europeans from the north, can come stay and 'dry out.'"
Unheated pool is clean on nice brick and cement patio, with lots of chairs and lounges. Must be nice on a hot, humid day in summer - I was there in January. Hosts swear a 78-year old woman used to swim every morning in the winter.
Kitchen has a full oven and stove - unusual in a VRBO room and bath rental. Also has a refrigerator and a separate small freezer. Bath is recently remodeled, and that was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on at a VRBO!!! Felt like a new, firm, hotel quality mattress and springs.
Gated property has plenty of parking space - don't plan on using mass transit to get to Tavira during your stay. No television, but most excellent WiFi for streaming on your computer. Also more towels than most hosts provide.
It was the perfect spot to stay during my week-long exploration of the Algarve. Spain is a half hour East and Salema beach is 90 minutes West. Faro has an international airport with frequent flights during the vacation season, fewer during off season. Tavira is almost 3 hours south of Lisboa, so area is not appropriate for exporing Central or Northern Portugal.
