  • This image was captured at the Oregon Inlet on the NC Outerbanks in December of 2015. It features the iconic Bonner Bridge, one of the more famous bridges in North Carolina. This was an impromptu trip that I undertook hoping to catch a sight of Comet Catalina that was gracing our skies at the time. That trip turned out to be one of the best trips I have ever undertaken as I encountered perfect conditions for photography every single day over the 3 day period I was there. This image is a blend of 2 images to bring out some detail in the foreground rocks. This composition appealed to me since the foreground rocks form a natural line to lead the viewer's eyes to the bridge and the clouds above. The clouds on this day were assuming various familiar shapes with the one captured here taking the shape of a bird in flight. This particular stretch of the shoreline is very peaceful to walk along. Since it's an inlet, the waves are extremely calm unless it's windy. There are several sand dunes to the left of this image that ultimately would lead you to the proper coast and the ocean. Update, 2020: This bridge is being dismantled and replaced with a newer bridge. Bonner Bridge has a lot of history tied to it and while it's sad to see it go, I feel fortunate to have captured part of this history personally. Perfect Ocracoke Hideaway

Charlotte’s Place was a quintessential Ocracoke retreat. Set in the wax myrtles, palmettos, and live oaks, it provided a shady, relaxing, quiet retreat for our family. The house is charming and so accommodating! And a wonderful location near all things Ocracoke. We absolutely loved our visit!

Nice location but needs attention to detail

The house is lacking several items. There were no sharp knives, not enough cutlery to use for more than just a meal for 6 & glassware was insufficient. My mother-in-law went & bought more glassware from the local thrift store since we had to throw away multiple old plastic tumblers that were cracked & would not hold liquid. The outdoor shower head was not working when we arrived. I contacted the rental company (Blue Heron) immediately, on Sunday, the day of our arrival, to notify them of the problem & finally heard back on Friday. We went to variety store & bought a cheap shower head so we could enjoy the outdoor shower. Parking is very tight & the gravel road is narrow & bumpy. If you drive a larger truck or SUV, this may be an issue. Though pet friendly, the carpets are very stained. My husband even took time to spray off the car port from mud, leaves & septic drainage. I feel like we left thus rental better than we found it. We are Outer Banks natives & would expect better for our hard earned money. Maybe with some attention to detail, this has potential.
