CanalHouse Private Large Home on Canal Front
CanalHouse is a unique Ocracoke home on the rental market for the first time in 2022. The long time home of an old Ocracoke family, who still owns the property, CanalHouse sits on a canal which leads to Oyster Creek and Pamlico Sound through a picturesque salt water marsh. The large back yard includes many live oak, bald cypress, and cedar trees. Enjoy the exceptional privacy on three large decks, including one on the back of the house with an outdoor shower and one surrounding an outbuilding right on the canal. NO power boat access. CanalHouse is providing full linen service beginning January 1, 2025.
CanalHouse received a major upgrade in conjunction with post-Dorian repairs. There is plenty of room to spread out in the house and outside. The heart of the house is a large room that combines kitchen, dining room and sitting room with TV. There is also a larger living room with sofa, chairs, and TV that adjoins a small sunroom with writing desk. The kitchen is fully equipped with refrigerator, electric range, dishwasher and open shelving to make everything you need easy to find. The house has central heating and AC, WiFi, washer/dryer combination, and cable TV. The smaller bathroom has a standing shower only, the larger has a tub/shower combination. Parking for 2 vehicles is permitted. There is space and electric provided for golf carts. We invite you to enjoy your Ocracoke visit at CanalHouse and hope to see you!
CanalHouse is limited to four people, no pets, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. There are two queen beds and one single bed. We provide full linen service.

we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. It was exceptionally clean, spacious and in a lovely peaceful setting. Close to everything. We also appreciated that linens were provided. Owner was quick to respond to our questions. We would definitely stay here again. Highly recommend!
We had a great stay at the Canal House. It was very clean, had everything we needed and is in a perfect location for golf carting or biking to shopping, restaurants and the coffee shop. This was our first trip to Ocracoke, but it won’t be our last!
My family stayed in Canal House for a family birthday trip. The house is very comfortable with plenty of space for family dinners and hang outs. Hope to return again to this lovely house.
We liked watching for birds while sitting on the porch facing the canal. The house is close to all restaurants and shops. The owner is super responsive to all needs. We liked knowing that an old island family still owns the house.
Large lot with cemeteries in the front yard, quick walk to town center and area restaurants. Saw several herons fly by from the back deck. Surprisingly peaceful so close to town. Had a great time.
My wife and I loved everything about this house. It is tucked away the British Cemetery and backs up
to a canal running behind the property. The house was very clean and had everything we needed to have an enjoyable stay. It is very private but within walking distance to shops and restaurants. We are already planning our next visit.
The cottage was comfortable and well equipped. Being down past the British Cemetery made for a very quiet week. It reminder me of my early visits to Ocracoke 50 years ago.
Mom and I enjoyed our quiet stay at the Canal House. We appreciated the comfortable beds, the cleanliness of the house, and all the basic supplies provided. The AC was welcome for the hot temps and humidity of the week. It was a convenient spot for adventures on the sound and around town.
We stayed at the canal house. Most of the time spent was at the beach, but the time that we were at the house was really nice. It was very clean and I loved the owners sense of style. The house sits right next to a canal and it was nice to drink my coffee and look out on the water. It’s a lovely quaint little place.
This in a quiet neighborhood (some of the neighbors aren't even alive). So clean it makes my house jealous. It's convenient to everything. The bed was comfortable. There are rooms perfect for reading, morning coffee and a kitchen with everything you need. And the back deck of the outbuilding by the canal is great for relaxing. I'm 71 and don't know how long I will be able to make the trip. But I'll stay here every time.
We had a great time at this venue. Did a lot of cooking and there was everything I heeded. Host communicated well and even fixed a small problem immediately. I enjoyed the room segmentation - lots of unique spaces. Very quiet at night.
We enjoyed every minute we stayed at the canal house. Beautiful, clean, and relaxing. Also was very close to everything ocracoke offers. We had a tropocal storm and Debbie made sure we knew where to park and what to do to keep our family safe. We will defantly be back. Can’t wait!!
3 night stay in March. First time in Canal House, 7th time visiting the Island. We need a property with as few stairs as possible and this fit the bill to a T! All one level with just a few stairs into the spacious house. Beds very comfortable, high quality linens/towels, great bathrooms and wonderful sitting and living rooms.Well equipped kitchen with NICE flatware and dishes.Very private and quiet.Great back porch, wonderful place to have cup of tea after a windy day fishing.Easy communication.Highly recommend this beautiful and rich in history rental for a peaceful relaxing experience .
this was our second stay at this house, and everything was very well prepared and handled. Although a tropical storm was passing by, this house was comfortable and secure to stay in. The host was very responsive and helpful in dealing with concerns about weather impacts, and we ended up even extending our stay with her prompt and locals-knowledge help. This is an amazing house with a very unusual amount of space and privacy. We birded, watched the sky, traveled to the beach, and really enjoyed vacation life on this island. Thank you so much!
Great place and the property manager was awesome!!Only downside is the ferry system- you never know if you’re going to be picked up on time or not. We will definitely stay here again.
This was my family’s third time staying at the canal house & as always we had a wonderful time. Peaceful, relaxing…everything you could want! We will be back.
A beautiful house on the canal. We had a great stay and really enjoyed the porches. Quiet but close to town. Lots of living space. Clean and well decorated! We will definitely be back
