About this property
Private modern off-grid lake house and guest cabin
Beautiful off-grid lake house and guest cabin on remote Skitacook Lake, miles away from the nearest utility pole or paved road. Enjoy time with family and friends around the campfire, fish and swim of the dock, hit the ATV trails, or relax on the balcony. Bring your canoes, kayaks or paddle boards to explore this unique lake with rocky shorelines and beautiful views.
Fully-furnished kitchen with propane appliances. Propane lights throughout the house or flip a switch for electric lights (Kohler generator). On-demand hot water, propane monitor, wood stove, recessed lighting, charcoal grill, large stone fire pit, picnic table, and outdoor seating. Unplug and unwind with a library of books, boardgames, and cribbage (Aroostook County favorite). Bring the whole family - friendly, well-behaved dogs welcome - and don't forget the kids' bikes. Children and off-leash dogs roam freely on this safe and private dead-end dirt road.
Plenty of parking to trailer your ATV, side-by-side, or boat. Canoes, kayaks and paddle boards can easily be launched and stored lakefront at the lake house and guest cabin. Mattawamkeag Lake, Pleasant Pond, and Va Jo Wa golf course are less than 25 minutes away in historic Island Falls. There is no WiFi (or TV) at the lake house and cell reception is limited.
Feel free to gather dead wood and fallen branches for firewood across the road (part of the lake house property). Skitacook Lake hosts resident loons, wild rabbits, turtles, and the occasional moose. There are only a couple dozen camps on this secluded lake, truly a hidden gem.

This was the best lakehouse my family has ever stayed at. It was quiet, comfortable, there was a dock to swim off, a raft to swim to, it was private, it hit all the best amenities of staying at a lake.
My kids want to live there now (9 and 11 years old). It was really clean, had everything (I mean everything) you need to stay there. We ended up staying an extra night.
The communication was very good. Everything was made easy for us.
It's close to a few small grocery stores and pizza places, and is a little over an hour the the northern part of Baxter State Park. We went hiking and canoeing there one day during our stay.
We could not have stayed at a better place.
My family and I stayed for a week and rented both the main house and guest cabin- both were just as described! Beds were all comfortable with plenty of extra blankets if needed. It really is a wonderful place, enough space to spread out and relax. The lake was lovely and you could see right to the bottom. We enjoyed kayaking, boating, frog catching and fishing. The neighbors were friendly and quiet. A great place to relax and unwind in nature but still with all the comforts of home. Each room had extra power banks plugged in so no worries about losing a charge when the generator is off. We had everything we needed and more! Camp fires at night under the starts was a dream and so relaxing. We would come again! Thank you for everything
I couldn't say enough wonderful things about our stay at this property and we are already thinking of when to plan our next trip. You can tell the host and their family think of everything when it comes to their home. We had the lake to ourselves during the week. We felt very welcomed and talked to the friendly neighbors when they happened by. Our dog and our toddler couldn't stay out of the water. We were remote, private, heard the loons, and saw the stars. We left feeling very thankful to Michelle and her family for sharing their oasis with us for a few days, they are truly lucky to have this wonderful place.
