About this property
Luxury villa/apart.Private heated pool. 3 mins. to village. 20mins Nice/beach.
Look no more! The villa is not only beautiful but it is above the norm. The whole apartment has been completely renovated recently, offering bright freshly painted rooms, full of light and provencal features. We can offer you not only excellent comfort, security and privacy, but can share our lovely gardens and terraces which are covered with ancient, gnarled olive trees, mediterranean flowers and orange and lemon trees. Personally, you would have access to a beautiful private garden with uninterrupted fabulous views down the river valley to the sea. In the winter months you can access a sparkling heated pool under a blue sky. It is heated between 1 April and 1st June and between 20th September and the end of October. Temperatures are so good in this part of France all year round that you can dine out at midday under a warm sun with light clothing. We look forward to welcoming you into our little bit of paradise which has been ours for 26 years since leaving the cold, damp weather in England. To summarise:
* The apartment is in fact, half of the villa and there are no other units for rental on the property. It is completely private. * Spacious architect designed apartment of 100m2 facing south and all rooms on one level * it is the east wing of the stone built villa facing east and south. * private balconies face south, overlooking the Var Valley and its winding river, to the sea * air conditioned main bedroom with top quality new mattresses and bedding. Colonial fans elsewhere. All principal rooms are air conditioned. French windows open onto a private balcony overlooking the hills, river and the sea beyond. * Luxury Egyptian cotton linen and towels including pool towels. Fluffy bathrobes and free toiletries. All baby linen included, plus cot and high chair. * full library of books for all tastes. Games. * free Wifi with router so that you can still use your internet around the pool. * satelite TV with English and French programs on flat plasma screen. BBC 1 and 2, ITV, sports included. Apple Box for films and more choices of programmes. (Bring your Apple card and password to access extra programmes). * High, spacious, beamed sitting room offering cool rooms in the summer heat, with ancient glazed terracotta tiled floors and colonial ceiling fans. Reversible air conditioning/heating wall unit. Comfortable seating. Large french windows to private balcony with armchairs and table, overlooking the whole of the valley 250m below. A romantic setting in the evening to share a cool cocktail. Side window overlooking the ancient, sprawling olive tree and private terrace with your own lemon tree! Comfortable seating, with round dining table and chairs, separate from the open plan kitchen. * original paintings by resident artist * fully equipped American kitchen with every facility such a microwave, large fridge freezer, oven, electric hob, kettle, blender, coffee machine, iron, toaster, baby bottle warmer, music, CD base. Door leading to a beautiful private terrace with BBQ, table and chairs and bougainvillea climbing the surrounding walls. Stunning views of the lights of Nice below. Floodlit lighting under the ancient olive trees. * private terraces with olive and lemon trees are accessible from either the kitchen, sitting room, or main bedroom. Pick your own seasonal fruit. * Private BBQ on apartment's terrace or principle BBQ adjacent to the pool. Large sun umbrellas and outdoor furniture, both on the private terrace and also adjacent to the heated pool 8x5 metres, and 2.5m deep at one end and 1.50m at shallow end. Summer kitchen with long table and chairs, set into the natural rocks. Spotlighting under all the trees, around the pool and even in the pool for midnight bathing creating a romantic atmosphere. (Please note- the pool is not heated in the summer months of June, July and August. The hot summer sun does all the work!) Lots of sun loungers and shade under the olive trees. Large bar, fridge and BBQ with chimney. Bar stools. * complete serenity- very private gardens, not overlooked. * bougainvillea, jasmine, fig, lemon, orange, and olive trees; terraces covered with dry stone walls and flowers. You can pick your own fruit in season. * privacy and security with electric gates to secure parking within the grounds. The apartment is not recommended nor suitable for handicapped people, unfortunately, as access is on a lower level than the villa’s main entrance ; the land being terraced. It has 11 stone steps down to your private terrace and entrance to the apartment which restricts a wheelchair being used. There is, however, for those fit enough, a secure handrail to help you descend. * designed for the discerning traveller seeking more than simply a holiday home. it was created for peace and comfort; a place of serenity to relax and savour the beauty of its surroundings to escape the frantic pace on the seafront in the summer months. Also, you are central for all touring either in the mountains or on the coastline. That is why we chose to live here. All major towns on the Cote d’Azur are nearby offering many choices of great restaurants, and not all are hugely expensive, especially in the surrounding villages nestling in the Alpes. We can advise you. For art lovers, you are spoilt for choice. Many of the most famous artists such as Renoir, Matisse, Chagall, Picasso, Van Gogh, and Cezanne, spent time here in our part of France. You will see their work everywhere and recognise the scenes they painted. Also, renowned walking trails cross through Gattieres such as the GR51. Cyclists would love the routes frequented by many French clubs. The famous Iron Man even passes by our doorstep! Also the Tour de France. The scenery is really spectacular. * Children, babies, young or old will find everything here at Le Contadour. We look forward to welcoming you and sharing all this with you. We had a beautiful relaxing stay, the views are magnificent and my children enjoyed having the pool all to themselves especially for those late night swims. The apartment is fully equipped with everything you can think of which was lovely. Everything is very close but you definitely need a car and to be a confident driver abroad. Liz and Quentin are wonderful people and full of knowledge and stories if you would like to chat or you can just go about your holiday and they will leave you be.
Liz and Quentin were wonderful host. Our stay was wonderful. We would highly recommend them.
This property was absolutely beautiful. The villa had everything and more that you could want. It was very close to many towns within a short 10 min drive. My husband walked every morning to the towns bakeries for fresh baguette and croissants. The location was perfect. Liz and Quentin were the perfect host. They were so helpful with suggestions for restaurants and day trips. Hopefully we can visit again.
The location is perfect. The charming little town is in close walking distance. It has a little supermarket, a bakery, a restaurant and a take away pizza-place.
The pool is great, the view is great and the hosts are both discreet, warm and welcoming.
Wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.
Amazing welcome here - we loved our stay at this property. Very relaxing, cosy, clean home. Gorgeous pool and fabulous view. Slept so well in comfortable beds and honestly didn’t want to leave. Thanks for a wonderful stay.
We had a lovely 2 weeks at Liz and Quentin’s gorgeous place. They are the ultimate hosts making sure we had everything we needed including recommendations for places to visit and great restaurants.
Whatever the plan was for the day we always ended up back at the pool lounging peacefully under the olive tree. We ate breakfast every morning on the balcony overlooking the valley and sometimes we stayed in evenings and cooked as all of the kitchen utensils and bbqs provided.
We can’t recommend this place enough!
This is a gem of an apartment and we feel very lucky to have found it. Liz and Quentin are wonderful hosts, they gave us a warm welcome and made our stay extremely comfortable. The amenities are excellent, the apartment had everything we needed for a wonderful stay, the heated pool was a huge hit with our children and having use of the garden terrace and bbq was a real bonus. The area has magnificent scenery and the views from the apartment are really impressive. Gatierres is very pretty and only a short walk away. The location meant we could easily explore a number of beautiful and interesting places including Nice, Vence, Tourrettes, Antibes, Cannes and Monaco. I would defintely recommend to anyone. A huge thank you to Liz and Quentin for your hospitality, it was lovely to meet you both xx
A Provençal Escape – Peaceful, Welcoming, and Wonderfully Located
Our stay at Liz and Quentin’s villa in Gattières was absolutely unforgettable. The home is tucked away in a quiet hillside village, offering the kind of peace and authenticity you dream of when visiting the South of France. Yet, it’s ideally located for day trips to stunning destinations like Nice, Antibes, St. Paul de Vence, Monaco, and Grasse—all reachable by car. From the moment we arrived, Liz and Quentin made us feel completely welcome. Their warmth, hospitality, and great recommendations (every one of them spot on!) made a real difference in our experience. They were always available when needed but never intrusive—just genuinely kind people with a wonderful sense of adventure. We especially loved spending time with them and their sweet cat, Boots. The villa itself is charming and beautifully maintained, with plenty of space for our family of four adults. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to prepare meals, and the outdoor space is a dream—perfect for lounging by the pool, grilling, or simply enjoying a quiet moment under the olive tree. We even made lemonade with the fresh lemons right outside the door! After a day of exploring the region, it was bliss to return to such a comfortable and serene space. This was more than just a rental—it felt like home. We can’t recommend this place highly enough.Thank you, Liz and Quentin, for sharing your special slice of Provence with us!
A beautiful location with stunning views. The property was lovely with lots of charm and character. It was also well equipped with everything we needed and was very comfortable. The swimming pool was perfect and a great place to relax with the family. Liz and Quintin were great hosts and made the whole experience welcoming and easy. Thank you.
The flat is even better than in the picture. Well located, supermarket and bakery at a walk king distance and only 20 minutes away of nice. Liz and Quentin were really helpful in providing guidance.
Had a delightful stay, Liz and Quentin made us feel very welcome and were very knowledgeable of the local area. The property was lovely with a stunning view and the pool was much enjoyed, particularly by our daughter. Gattières is a lovely village with all the amenities that may be needed. Thank you for hosting our memorable trip.
This is a truly wonderful place and it looks even more nice in reality vs. The pictures. It’s a very peaceful and calm place but in only some minutes you reach all the big hotspots! We visited Monaco , Cannes , Antibe and the near by beaches really effortless and in no time . The hosts are amazing and the entire family loved the place . It’s extremely tasteful decorated and very well equipped. Nothing is missing . The pool is very nice

Excellent location, lovely house, friendly owners
Spent an excellent week at Le Contadour. The property was lovely and clean. The views were amazing and Quentin and Liz were perfect hosts - there when you needed them and invisible the rest of the time.
Lix and Quintin are the consummate hosts. Le Contadour is a wonderful place to stay for a trip to the French Riviera. It's inland from the coast in Gattières, providing good access to the lovely hill villages nearby.
We had a lovely time staying in Liz and Quentin’s property. The location was brilliant with beautiful views down the valley and a wonderful pool to relax in. They were great at giving us recommendations locally of where to eat and we enjoyed drinks with them one evening, getting to enjoy the views of their property. Very generous hosts. Just what we were looking for and we’d love to come back!
Liz and Quentin fabulous hosts. The property was absolutely gorgeous and exceeded all our expectations.
They helped make our honeymoon special, offering excellent advice, always available and were lovely people. They made us a special dinner once they knew we had gotten married, and we all became fast friends in a very short time.
We will go back again and we only wish we could more convey how wonderful they are as hosts.

beautiful and lovey place with very kind hosts
Liz and Quentin own a beatiful place with a nice mediterranean house which is perfect to relax. They both are some lovely hosts that care about your wishes and are very interested in their guests. As a guest you have your own privacy area with a nice terraceand olive trees everywhere. If it getting hot you can take a bath in the pool which is very clean and never too cold.It takes you just 2 minutes to reach the next supermarket by car, Nice is just 20-30 minutes away.
We enjoyed our stay at le contadour very much and we have to recommend it to anyone who wants to visit côte d'azur. Its more than an apartment - it like a house with your own big garden, swimming pool and a lot of different fruit trees.
We wish all the best to Liz and Quentin.

Pretty, relaxed getaway.
Delighted to have spent a second holiday at La Contadour. The property is set in a peaceful location overlooking fabulous views of the valley and Nice. It offers easy access to coastal and mountain attractions.(Nice approx 20 mins by car) Nearby village with supermarket, bakery and two small restaurants. The house is fully equipped with everything you need -we never had to ask for anything. The style is relaxed and comfortable with lovely personal touches. The pool area and garden was secluded and safe for the children (8/10) and immaculately kept. The icing on the cake for us are the lovely couple who own it. Warm, welcoming and expert hosts whose company we enjoyed greatly over a few glasses of wine by the poolside with just the right balance of available to help and respect for our privacy, leaving us to enjoy their beautiful property. We would highly recommend this property and hope to return soon.

Amazing Location
This is a lovely property with the most amazing views and perfectly situated for visiting some of the best places in the South of France, 20 minutes to Vence with it's pretty streets and romantic history, a wonderful choice of restaurants and more stunning views. Also only 20 minutes to the coast with an assortment of towns and beaches.
Gattieres itself is a delightful village, it provides everything you need for self catering, the supermarket sells an excellent assortment of fresh food, good wine, plus all sorts of extras, from swimming goggles to sewing kits. There is a lovely boulangerie and two very nice restaurants.
Liz and Quentin are very hospitable, we spent a wonderful evening by the pool, drinking their wine and getting some very good tips on where to go and what to see, the pool area is really lovely, with a very impressive BBQ and more stunning views.
Our favourite area was the private terrace directly outside the property, with it's wonderful old olive tree, borgainvillea and pretty tubs, this made the perfect place for late breakfasts of fresh pastries from the village and coffee. In the evenings we watched the sunset with local wine and lit candles, enjoying the warm nights while eating the fresh local produce.

A little bit of paradise !
Le Contadour is a little bit of paradise set up in the hills, overlooking Nice. We have just spent a wonderfully relaxing week there with our teenage daughter and are already yearning to go back.
It was so relaxing that the week felt like a month. We swam every day (in April!) in the heated pool with the sound of birds around us and a lovely aroma emanating from the herbs and lemon trees.
We barbecued on our own terrace most evenings, with a view overlooking the sea. The apartment is very rustic and homely with all the equipment you'd need including British TV and excellent wifi which kept our daughter happy. It was really cosy and the bed was so comfortable we slept very soundly.
Liz & Quentin are lovely hosts - so friendly and extremely helpful. They made us feel relaxed and welcome but also as though we had the place to ourselves, knowing that they were there if we needed advice.
The nearby village is very pleasant with all your self catering needs and for people more adventurous than ourselves, there is plenty see and do only 20 minutes drive away.
We are already looking forward to returning and will be recommending unreservedly to our family and friends.
Thanks again Liz & Quentin for everything. Hope to see you soon.

Excellent location, great property, fantastic hosts!
It's very difficult to write this review without repeating everything that's already been said but here goes!
Location - Gattieres is a very nice village within a 10 minute walk of the property. It has everything you need including a supermarket and boulangerie. There's also a nice restaurant called Le Manon. It's a great base for sightseeing with the likes of Nice on your doorstep or other little French villages such as Carros where's there's a great restaurant called Creperie du Moment.
Property - faultless! As soon as we walked in we knew we'd chosen well. Spotlessly clean with everything you could possibly need provided, including a generous supply of towels. The outside space is second to none. There are plenty of places to sit and read (or doze!) from the loungers around the glorious (spotlessly clean) pool to your own balcony looking out over the river Var and down to Nice airport. Truly a view we never tired of looking out on.
Hosts - Liz and Quentin. Made us feel very welcome from the minute we arrived which is a great way to start your stay. It was great having them around to help or answers questions but they are very good at making sure you have your privacy.
We certainly wouldn't hesitate in recommending this property!
The only downside was we were only there for a week, a mistake we certainly won't be making next time if we are luckily enough to stay here again.

An Absolute Jewel!!
Many of us have arrived at a vacation rental home sight-unseen before, and felt very hesitant but hopeful. From the very first moment when when we arrived to when my wife and two children were met by Liz and Quentin at the property gates, we knew this would be a special vacation. First of all, the region just north of Nice, where the property is located, is simply wonderful. We arrived in the early spring. And the gentle, cool breeze combined with the bright sunshine and the enchanting smell of blooming flowers we'll never forget. No…I'm not exaggerating. It was the perfect getaway for our family. The owners welcomed us with open arms, and toured us throughout the property like we were relatives. The wraparound balcony is the perfect setting for any meal, morning or evening…and the view is absolutely spectacular. The layout of the apartment is perfect if you have children. There are two separate bedrooms, one clearly designed for the children and one for the adults. The rooms were all very clean and the bathroom was equipped with Ralph Lauren towels and wash clothes. The kitchen was surprisingly roomy, and had every imaginable utensil, opener, pot, pan, dish and device for cooking gourmet meals. The Internet connection was very fast and reliable. The bakery, butcher, and markets were within walking distance of the property (about 1km)…and there was only light traffic along the route. The local villagers treated us with a bit of novel respect (we're American), but overall they were very welcoming and made us feel at home. I would suggest learning at least a little bit of French before you go. We will definitely brush up on our French before we visit next time. The locals respect you a bit more. :-) During the evenings, and after a long day of touring the area--where we visited Monaco: to include the several beaches of the area, the nearby French Alps, and locations where the film "To Catch a Thief" were shot by Alfred Hitchcock (just up the road from the property)--our kids wandered around the property and made friends with the cats, played in the swimming pool and picked lemons off of the lemon trees located only 3 or 4 meters from the front door. Yes…you guessed it…we had a wonderful time. We cannot thank the property owners enough for their wonderful and selfless hospitality. We cannot wait to get back…and do it all over again. We loved it here…and recommend it to anyone looking for a place to relax, reflect and rejuvinate.
