Bask in the beachfront allure of central Nice, in a neighbourhood perfectly placed for exploring the iconic Promenade des Anglais and its famous beach.

Set in a superb position on a prime stretch of the Promenade des Anglais, Gambetta is the Nice you see on postcards. Stroll along the silver pebble beach, dotted with glamorous characters relaxing on blue-and-white sun loungers, with palm trees swaying in the background. Walk along the promenade and appreciate the timeless glamour of the Côte d’Azur.

Admire the many elegant buildings. While wandering along the promenade, look for Hotel Negresco, a Nice landmark. Gleaming white, with a coral pink and mint green roof, this hotel is an icon of the Belle Époque. It was built in 1912, but is in such good condition that it could have been completed yesterday. Step inside for a look around and have a drink in the beautiful walnut-lined bar, where live jazz is often performed.

After observing the opulence of the Hotel Negresco, head next door to the equally impressive Masséna Museum. Walk through the lovely gardens to the grand neoclassical villa, which features fascinating museum displays on the history of Nice. Examine artefacts relating to Napoleon, including his death mask.

Head back to the beach and keep walking east along the promenade to reach the leafy Jardin Albert I. This park dates back to the 19th century and is one of Nice’s most beloved public parks. The lovely green space is dotted with palm and carob trees, as well as exotic plants from across the world. Directly in front of the garden toward the beach, find La Grande Chaise Bleue (Big Blue Chair), an eye-catching public artwork. As the name suggests, this is a sculpture of a huge blue chair, tipped precariously on one leg.

The French Riviera is famous for its beautiful summer weather, and Gambetta is one of the best places to experience it. Reach Gambetta easily by car, just a 15-minute drive from the Nice Côte d'Azur Airport. Alternatively, ride local buses to Gambetta/Promenade.
