About this property
Entire place
You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.
The ultimate base for the Goldfields. Just 12 mins from the buzz of Castlemaine and the history of Maldon, our cosy heritage cottage is a peaceful, upscale retreat.
Set in peaceful Newstead—a charming riverside town—you are ideally placed to explore the iconic streets of Maldon, Castlemaine and Daylesford. Relax in the quiet garden by the water feature for a restful stay.
Perfect for two couples or a romantic getaway, with two queen bedrooms, full equipped kitchen, and a rare romantic double-shower wet room.
PETS We welcome your pet—after all, they’re part of the family. There are just a few things to keep in mind: Please bring your pet’s own bed. It helps them feel more at home. Pets are not allowed on the beds or furniture.
Pets must not be left alone in the cottage. A new place can feel a little overwhelming for them, and we’d hate for your furry family member to feel anxious while on holiday.
Our charming period cottage is tucked just over the Loddon River in Newstead. While the backyard (152 m²) is fenced, there’s a park directly across the road and farmland and bushland nearby — which can be very exciting for curious noses! So please keep dogs on a lead when out and about, and make sure they’re supervised in the backyard.
RECOMMEND TOUR Aboriginal Elder Uncle Rick led cultural tour offers an authentic immersion into ancient traditions and practices.

Great facilities and tasteful interior design and ambience. Perfect for us and our dog with enclosed garden. Lovely welcoming basket and great hosts who gave us invaluable advice about local attractions and places to eat.Having a fire place a bonus too.

Great for our family. Perfect location to explore the area.
Neal and Marie are very welcoming hosts, who will tend to any needs to make your stay stress-free. The cottage has been beautifully and tastefully restored, with the addition of a modern bathroom. A lovely, quite and comfortable place to stay. Very well thermally insulated with an easy to access bathroom (from the main bedroom) with a double shower. Thank you Neal and Marie and we look forward to our next stay with you :).
Hosts were excellent. Contact immediate and very informative of the property and things to do in the area. The house is ‘very cute’ and Neal and Marie really care that their guests have a great stay. So many added extras that made us feel welcome. Fireplace was a wonderful place to fall asleep in front of and good quality linen and ammenities abound. A truly luxurious stay. Thanks so much, Neal and Marie.
A lovely old cottage with a modern and convenient kitchen and bathroom. It's well located opposite the old - and no longer operational - Newstead Railway station, in the Victorian goldfields with the nearby towns of Maldon and Castlemaine. Peaceful. Relaxing. . .
We had a fantastic relaxing few days away in this charming cottage in Newstead.
Neal was a great host, everything that we needed for our stay to be comfortable was provided and we would certainly love to return!
"Our stay at the Cute Cottage in Newstead was absolutely wonderful! From the warm and welcoming staff to the immaculate and thoughtfully designed rooms, every detail was perfect. The location was ideal, offering both convenience and a peaceful atmosphere. The amenities exceeded our expectations, and we truly felt like we were in a home away from home. We can't recommend Neal's cottage highly enough and look forward to returning in the future!"
Cute little comfortable cottage with all that you need for your stay. Neal was very helpful (plenty of tips on places to go and eat around the area) and always available.
Would recommend
I most liked the well-equipped kitchen, high ceilings, and wood-fired stove with plentiful firewood. There is also what I think is termed a reverse-cycle heater/cooler that was effective at heating the living area. The bathroom area was a bit chilly in early June.
We all loved this property - very peaceful spot, had everything we needed, well equipped, quality furnishings, comfortable, with a perfect verandah to chillax on! Newstead is a great location to explore surrounding areas, and the local IGA and butcher is handy if you want to self cater. Friendly town & owners - we felt very welcome.
We, including our dog, Ruby, had a lovely week exploring central Victoria. Newstead is ideally located for this and the house was charming and comfortable. Neal is a thoughtful but discreet host, who made sure that all was good and we had everything we needed.
A renovated Victorian workers cottage. Very comfortable without sacrificing any of the character! Neal was a lovely host and very helpful in making sure we had everything we needed (we did!) We self-catered and the kitchen was perfect for that. The fireplace was a highlight as was the little day trips we did around the area - so much to see! Would recommend to anyone who wants a relaxing weekend.
My partner and I stayed over the Easter weekend, and we had such a nice time, the cottage is set up with everything you could need. Including a very generous welcome package. Neal sent us some excellent recommendations tailored to us and our dog - the newly renovated cottage is the perfect size for a couple and a dog, we loved sitting out in the backyard in the warmth using the bbq. The chickens are right on the other side of the fence so you need to be sure your dog isn’t reactive, ours loved the chickens and was fascinated by them, but i would definitely not leave him out there unsupervised.
We had a lovely stay, the cottage is very comfortable and in a good spot. The local area is very cute and lovely to wander around
Everything you need for a lovely visit welcoming spotless and close to shops and places to eat Neale great host helpful with my car checked that it was okay many thanks
We very much enjoyed our stay at Neal and Maries cottage and would highly recommend staying here whether you're a family or a couple.
Great for a winter get away
