Little sleep and unsure about air quality.
My friend and I were staying for an overnight and were looking forward to relaxing at the pool, however, when we went into the pool area we found it covered with what looked like black mold and mildew and smelled very high of bleach in the steamy air. The hallways smelled like pot and/or body odor. The beds were comfortable at least but during the night there was a couple arguing loudly in a neighboring room before having very loud sex until the early hours of the morning. That coupled with noises coming from a late night truck pulling in to the parking lot. The shower stall seemed a bit moldy and/or not overly clean but the last straw was the stray finger nail clipping on one of the “fresh” towels. Probably not the worst hotel stay I have had but its up there.

Our room was clean, the two beds were comfortable, there was plenty of closet space. The sofa bed was very uncomfortable, basically a thin pad on top of wire mesh. There were two TVs, but only one remote worked. There was a slight mildew smell in the corridor, but not in the room. The breakfast was good; eggs, sausage, French toast, waffles, muffins, juice, milk, coffee, and cereal. The location was not great (not a lot of places to walk to), but easy access to the interstate.

Massive stains on the carpet poor shape of bathroom with shoddy fixes. No toilet paper holder/broken.Slope of the floor by bathroom very uneven ( old repair??) asked for an E Mail of my receipt. The hotel was in a good area near many stores, the beds were comfortable. Unfortunately the carpets in the room and elevator were absolutely disgusting. The rugs smelled and had huge stains everywhere the elevator smelled like a mixture of urine and cigarettes. The staff were nice and they had great breakfast selection. I would recommend if they cared to clean the carpets and elevator.

My room’s carpet was stained and needs to be replaced. The curtains were wrinkled and broken so they didn’t close properly . There is only one ice machine and it’s on the first floor. Didn’t know that until my second day there.

This room should not have been rented to anyone. The carpet was not cleaned; missing light bulbs, Caulking need around bathtub & sink; window curtains not on rod; closet door attachment off the track ( been this way for months); towels torn and only minimum provided; breakfast menu at a minimum, no microwave, stale buns, only one fruit. no apologies given for conditions--Mgr said its been that way for months.

We checked in on 10/19/23 and the floors looked like they were swept but very dirty. The beds were clean. i got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and the toilet had overflowed so we had to move rooms around 5 am. We had no help to move and had to walk through the toilet water to move to the next room.Also went to use the pool and the floor was dirty and alga was all over the floor. Did not feel comfortable using the pool. At checkout we asked about a discount and the gentleman said that he couldn't do that and we would have to email the owner. I emailed the owner and have not heard a word from him. We went ahead and stayed because my wife was having some health issues and didn't feel that she could handle moving at that time. I would not recommend staying here.

The night staff was very friendly and understanding, but that was the only thing we liked about the property. The first room we were assigned was awful, carpet was stained, curtains were ripped, tv had been punched and was busted. The second room, which was also a suite (2 queen beds and a pull out) was still not very clean, there was cake on the closet door, and Doritos on the floor and pull out. I don’t think they vacuum. We only had 2 towels, 2 washcloths and 2 hand towels. When we asked for more towels and washcloths (enough for 4 adults and 2 kids) they gave us 3 more towels and only 2 more wash clothes (which was all they had). Cleanliness is our biggest complaint. The property did not meet expectations. We don’t need anything fancy, but we want to stay in a clean room, where we feel safe. The first room was not clean enough for our 6 month old puppy, much less our entire family.

It was quiet. They brought a dehumidifier in to my room after I complained and asked for a different room. Was told they had no other rooms. My room was smelly, moist, mildewy, and nasty. Carpet had what may have been pet stains all over it. The walls were patched in multiple places; multiple stains in the walls and ceiling. Bed spread had stains as did the towels. Bathroom had baseboards separated from the wall and what appeared to be mold in the shower area where the granite walls met in the corner. Muffins at breakfast were old or stale.

Lots of Potential, but It Needs Some Help
This hotel needs some work to meet the quality I expect from Country Inns. The check in experience created a negative right away. We got to the hotel between 10-11. The person checking in was very hard to understand. The check in area was littered with items related to a foreign religion. (It's their choice who they worship, but it should not be in the lobby.) The person doing the check in was extremely difficult to understand. We wanted to modify the reservation to leave a day early and was told it could not be done. My son was thirsty and the only soda machine in the entire hotel was out of order. They had nothing there to help. There is no where nearby to get something, so that was extremely inconvenient when you have a thirsty child. The room itself did not meet expectations either. There was nothing in the room to put on the couch bed. We had to go ask multiple times to get everything we needed to fix the bed. The door from the closet was hanging off and wouldn't open. The drawers had an odor. The thermostat didn't work. The room was very stuffy. The pillows were extremely flat. We asked for extra pillows and was told no. The room did seem clean though, but could use some paint as well as areas in the hotel. The breakfast area is extremely small and there were signs saying not to take breakfast out of that area. It also ends at 9:00, which is early for travelling families. So many little things could have made our stay so much better!!!

This place was beyond dirty! Mildew covered the shower curtain in the bathroom. Stains throughout the carpet. People smoking marijuana right outside the main entrance of the property. I understand this cannot be stopped but for the hotel staff to allow it to take place at the main entrance was very neglectful of the management at the property. Horrible experience DO NOT STAY HERE!

I would give this place 0 stars if I could
I don't even know where to begin. There's water damage on the ceilings here as well as stains on the cheap linoleum floors throughout the hotel. The guy at the service desk was away complaining to co-workers in plain sight instead of checking guest in and out for both check-in and check-out. The bathrooms are deplorable. The rooms have an odd smell to them. The carpet in the rooms are filthy. The bathroom floors are just disgusting. The lampshade in the rooms had stains on them as well as the bed sheets. The surrounding area is super sketchy. Unless you're in a bind, and I mean a serious bind, stay away from this hotel at all costs.

Sir, while we appreciate and value all of our guests at our property, and can appreciate that the experience you had may not have been outstanding, we do feel that it be said that your review is unfair to our property. Yes, we are making changes to the aesthetics of the property to appeal to our guests, and realize that some of our rooms and features are in need of upgrade or repair, but we have been investing quite extensively in doing so. The "cheap linoleum" you refer to has been recently installed, and is actually a luxury vinyl plank to resist stains. As our hotel is a high traffic area, we decided to remove the carpeting and install a material that would be easier to maintain and clean, last longer, and offer a more vibrant appearance to our guests. Our room carpets are on the list of items that we will be addressing as soon as permissible. Our housekeeping staff works hard daily to ensure that our bathrooms, both public, and in the guest accommodations are cleaned thoroughly behind each guest departure, and daily with disinfectant, all purpose cleaners, and sanitizers. We strive to improve the overall cleanliness on a daily basis. We have recently replaced many linens and towels with new choice approved materials, so it saddens us to learn that you may have found any stains on our linens. However, we would have happily replaced these items for you immediately if you had brought these issues to our attention during your stay. We document all guest concerns daily and communicate those concerns throughout the week with all of our staff members to ensure that each issue can be resolved, and hopefully prevented in the future. However, there is no such documentation for any of the concerns you mentioned in your review during your stay. Additionally, we would have very much appreciated if you would have informed us that you or one of your guests had broken a fixture in the room. Upon your departure, it was discovered that there was a crack in the face of the reservoir on the bathroom toilet that was now leaking all over the bathroom floor. In reference to our staff voicing complaints in front of guests, that is unacceptable, and please accept my apologies if you witnessed any such occurrence. Our staff works hard daily to attempt to provide excellent customer service, and any failure on our part of doing so, saddens us. Our community here locally is not of a sketchy nature at all, and we are in a very much sought after area for residents of Newport News. Again, we do appreciate the opportunity to receive your valuable feedback, and hope that this reply will serve to you notice that you have been heard, and the issues are or will be being addressed.

Carpet was all stained no fan in the bathroom, smelt musty, could never get clean towels. We did not want maid service. The second day stay we asked for clean towels like three times. Finally was able to get swimming towels. Never anyone at the desk. Always outside. Have to say more options for breakfast. I never ate. My husband had yogurt. Would I go back definitively NO! I guess you get what you pay for. Booked on line cheaper.

DO NOT STAY HERE!! Over 100 young people having parties in parking lot and running hall ways of hotel. Front desk did not know how to handle situations until we recommended to call police. Had to wait in my vehicle for 45 min just to get a parking spot after police broke up party. Next day owner offered NO refund or apologies in how bad the stay was. Also breakfast was so packed we had zero food options of seating available for paying guests @7:30am on a Sunday.
