"The hotel was in a good location, a bit run down and dated. Hairdryer in the room didn’t work, the window sil was loose and the sofa bed was horrific! My 2 kids had terrible sleeps both nights. I wouldn’t say it was worth the £355 we paid for 2 nights. We’d expect much better quality for that price. "
"This is a well-looked-after modern refurbishment of an older property.
The rooms are compact but very nicely presented.
There is a really nice restaurant downstairs as well
The restaurant does really good breakfasts and has a good evening small plates menu "
"Going with kids, good. Going for any other reason I would look elsewhere.
Went for a long weekend with family of 4. Check in process was annoying pestering emails to complete online check in when the hotel had my details via hotel.com booking. When I arrived i couldn’t even use the ‘express online check in’ and had to queue.
For dinner we had to wait 15m then another 15m just to place an order at the wood shed bar. We decided to go to main bar than chance being asked to wait for a 3rd time.
Ordered food at the bar (venison burger) and didn’t realise the table next to us had order the same and left more than half the meal. I’m not fussy but I couldn’t even eat half. We never ate in the hotel again, during the stay. Lots of good local option that is a short walk or drive.
Positive the drinks were well priced and quality of beer and wine was really good. Along with the price of the room and location for time of year.
Amenities for families are really good. The kids had fun with the disco, arcade, swimming, softplay and golf. A little disappointing there is an extra charge for the golf and softplay for guests. There are other hotels in Scotland we have been too with softplay who don’t charge.
If we were coming back to the region with family, all things considered we would stay again. "
4 bedroom house with large garden in Cairngorms - ideal for families
10/10 Excellent
"Great for our group of 4 adults and 4 children. Garden was fab for an Easter egg hunt. Table tennis table was a hit. Nice big dining table for 8. Everything important was in good order. Was nice to have the log burner during a cold week."
"Was in Garden room excellent for us and our dog. Staff were very friendly and helpful service was excellent. Had dinner at restaurant and impressed with the food A great place for a short break "
"The food is great but very expensive, although Ballater is an expensive place to stay. Evening meal and bar lovely, breakfast amazing. Nice feel to the hotel, very traditional and cosy.
We stayed in a standard room, which is basic. Mattress and pillows felt cheap, it overlooked properties but there was no net curtain to offer privacy, dusty, TV had no apps to log into, noise from downstairs clearly audible, door in the hallway made a creaking noise. We were pretty disappointed as the next level was almost double. "
