Really friendly and inclusive backpacker vibes but in a clean and well maintained hostel. I had a private room and it was very spacious and clean and comfy. I would stay here again.
Very helpful and accommodating staff. Very nice room and very clean. I loved the kitchen and dining room where you get to talk to all the guests who are on various journeys
My second stay in this hostel. It was just as good as my first stay, lots of stuff to do, nice area to hang out, nice people and friendly staff. It is super clean and you get everything you need. The receptionist was very helpful, too :)
We were going to be late arriving adter the ferry broke down. An email was replied to quickly and an envelope with access codes left taped to the door. Thank you.
Lovely friendly and homely stay, staff were very gelpful and the chocolate pudding and ice fream delicious, thank you again.
Good location, quiet but easy access to town. Would definitely use again.
After traveling long hrs we realized that check in was until 8pm. We were way passed that. Drive by to property and found instructions inside an envelope on how to go in 🙌. People staying there were very nice. Place was clean and very nice.
This is an awesome backpackers! Located 5 minute walk from town, well equipped for travellers, with plenty of additional thoughtful touches to promote a sense of community for those that stay. Out door hammocks, and garden seating areas, an indoor fire, comfy couches, an electric piano, guitar, a clothing trading chest along with chocolate pudding and ice cream served each night at 8, all promoted a sense of home away from home. Staff were friendly, efficient and the kitchen was clearly signed with instructions to promote a clean well functioning area. There was a lovely vibe and sense of caring amongst visitors. We loved it!
This hostel is great. It's a little out of the way if you don't have a car, but the bus is only $3 from the airport and it's only an 11 minute walk. They have chocolate pudding every evening at 8pm. *(for Americans, it's not milky, liquidy pudding, but baked "pudding".)
It gets pretty cold in the fall/winter. They offer extra blankets, but I still found it very chilly. I really liked the communal spaces and the hammocks, love a good hammock. I think this hostel is probably really busy in the summer, but in late April/May it's less busy.
Traveler arrived for check in 2 hours into the designated check-in time and was told that she wouldn’t be able to check in for another hour or so because there was no one to do it. She was exhausted and needing rest after traveling for 24 hrs, and wasn’t directed to a common area to wait, but invited to put her suitcase in a closet of some sort. She was able to check in 45-60 min later, and the space was fine. Just unavailable and confusing at a time when it would’ve been preferred to have the room and check-in process as described.
I stayed in a private double room before and after the Abel Tasman Track. I was able to leave my luggage in a secure closet at reception for free. The hostel felt homey and had a nice community vibe to it. I credit the friendly staff for that. Towels and bar soap were provided, at least for the private double room. The walls are thin so earplugs are recommended depending on how loud your neighbors are. Kitchen was well stocked, free coffee and tea, and of course the free chocolate "pudding" (cake and ice cream) at 8pm. My only complaint is that the Hotels.com confirmation said check in starts at noon (which already seemed oddly early) but reception actually closes during midday and does not re-open until 3:30pm.
