"Really enjoyed my stay at Glengarriff Hostel. It was spotlessly clean, the beds were comfortable, and the atmosphere was friendly and relaxed. The self check-in was easy, and the free tea, coffee and breakfast basics were a nice bonus. The location is perfect for exploring Glengarriff and the Beara Peninsula, and the host was always quick to help if I had any questions. I'd definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone backpacking around Ireland."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Na Haoraí?
The best area to stay in Na Haoraí is the village centre, particularly around the main street, which offers direct access to the harbour and local amenities.

This central area is the heart of Na Haoraí, a small, picturesque fishing village. You'll find most of the local shops, traditional pubs, and seafood restaurants clustered along the main thoroughfare that leads down to the working harbour. It's an excellent spot for enjoying the local atmosphere and watching the fishing boats.

Couples looking for a tranquil escape will find the village centre ideal. It provides a convenient base for coastal walks, enjoying fresh local produce, and experiencing the relaxed pace of Irish village life. Many guesthouses and hotels here offer views of the harbour or the surrounding countryside.

Families will also appreciate staying in the village centre due to its accessibility. Everything is within easy walking distance, from the small playground to the ice cream parlour.
When is the best time to go to Na Haoraí?
The best time to visit Na Haoraí is during the shoulder seasons of late spring (May-June) and early autumn (September-October), as these months offer a pleasant balance of good weather, fewer crowds, and a wide range of available activities.

During late spring, the days are longer and generally sunnier, with average temperatures ranging from 12°C to 18°C. The countryside is lush and green, making it ideal for exploring the walking trails and scenic drives. You'll also find that most attractions, restaurants, and shops are fully operational, but without the peak-season crowds. This period is particularly good for couples looking for a relaxed trip with opportunities for outdoor activities.

Early autumn provides similar benefits, with temperatures typically between 10°C and 16°C. The landscape takes on beautiful autumnal colours, particularly in the surrounding forests and along the coast. It's an excellent time for those interested in food and drink, as many local harvests and festivals occur. Accommodation prices can also be slightly more favourable compared to the summer months, offering good value for travellers who appreciate quality without the highest price tag.

While summer (July-August) offers the warmest weather and the most daylight, it also brings the largest crowds and highest prices.
