Surround yourself with Canada’s historical legacy of culture, sports and science as you make your way through this interactive museum.

Canada’s diverse history is traced back thousands of years at this interactive museum. The Museum of Civilization’s engaging exhibits are great for all ages and the institution has become one of Québec’s most cherished family learning centres. Feel the turbulence of a simulated earthquake, understand the power of a tsunami and experiment with science while the kids explore fictional landscapes.

Hear the stories of the men and women who made the city what it is today in the People of Québec: Then and Now exhibit. Films pulled from the archives depict pivotal moments in Québec’s history, while a vast collection of artefacts includes traditional costumes, flags, coins and many religious items.

Listen as actors recount the journeys made by the 16th-century explorer, Jacques Cartier, and the stories of the famous architect Thomas Baillairgé.Visit the Earth’s Unveiled room within the Discovery Zone for a physical experience that demonstrates how the earth was formed. Feel the earth shake beneath you in the earthquake and tsunami simulator, feel the contours of ancient fossils and even see how big a dinosaur’s footprint was. The nearby Once Upon a Time exhibit is great for younger audiences who will love dressing up in fairy-tale costumes and playing with props. Watch as radio frequency chips set off special effects, sounds and lights as the children move through the exhibit.

A temporary exhibition space hosts travelling exhibits from around the world. A schedule is available on the official website. Join a free guided tour of individual exhibits or the entire museum at the reception desk.

The Museum of Civilization is located on Rue Dalhousie in Québec’s Lower Town. It’s easy to reach the museum on foot from central Québec. Buses also service the area. The museum is open daily between June and September and is closed Christmas Day and Mondays for the remainder of the year. There’s a fee for admission.
