The rooms in this property are just fine, and the breakfast was very good, as is typical for Thon Hotels. However, the location was very odd for a Thon Hotel. The lobby for the hotel is shared with a bowling alley, and while the surrounding area is certainly not unseemly, it is mostly residential and there is virtually no place to dine. Again, this is not necessarily a bad review; we were just surprised because the other Thon Hotels we stayed in on this trip were quite nice, and this one was, in my view, a 2.5 star hotel. If you are just staying the night (as we did) the rooms and breakfast are very nice; but that is all you should expect.

The hotel is tired, which means it just looks dirty and run down. I know the staff do clean it so it’s clean just the perception is not there. The breakfast is to skip cold and unappealing, I saw a more experienced guest just made themselves a sandwich something I would recommend doing for breakfast

Good hotel, but a really miserable night.
Was going to give this a great review - the rooms are good sized, the beds are comfortable and the shower is nice. The breakfast was really good too - lots of options. Except that around midnight, the bad live music started at some near-empty bar directly under our room (on the second floor). Can't sleep, can't block it out - it reverberates through the thin floors. The road noise was pretty bad too. If you stay here, avoid Saturday and the second floor. And for the hotel - maybe avoid booking people in rooms directly above the music - or, soundproof it better.

Location for me was good, close to Moa. Room was OK, nothing spectacular but fine. Evening snack was a nice surprise and breakfast was good. Friendly staff. Would be nice if there would be a door mat when entering the room. The sand from the shoes got carried around the whole room, even if I left the shoes by the door.

Nice hotel, comfortable room and easy street parking. It was a little noisy in the evening with people walking outside. Easy access to walk from the hotel. Food was excellent at breakfast.

Did not like undermarked parking. Loved the evening Norwegian waffles!! Could have appreciated clarity that Thon Baronen is not in downtown historic Alesund, but out in a suburb

Positive things first: unexpectedly there was a supper available free of charge for all hotel guests. The night I was there a nice pasta dish, water and juices, a fresh waffle for dessert. That saved me from finding a restaurant for dinner that night and dine by myself. Rooms are spacious and clean. Impossible is certainly the price they charge for a single room for one night... even in hight season!

The hotel is situated outside the city centre which provides a comfortable area without too much noise. The hotel itself seems outdated and old. However, there is evidence of renovation going on during our stay. The entire 2nd floor seems newly updated but the 3rd floor still has that old and dated look to it. The key system is also quite dated by using actual keys instead of keycards. The hotel staff were really nice and accomodating. The hotel has complimentary breakfast included and light dinner with waffles. The breakfast menu isn't as varied as I would expect from a 3 star hotel. The hotel serves the exact same breakfast every morning but dinner menus differs each night. The hotel with its dated look has its charm. Just like the room that I stayed in, it had its own balcony which gave a nice view of the sunset but Alesund's rainy weather means that time spent on the balcony is lessened. Overall a nice hotel to stay at if you are planning a road trip with Alesund as a starting point. This hotel also has its own parking space which made it easier for someone who rented a car during their stay.

The hotel is about 15 minutes from downtown Alesund, but right on the way toward the fjords. Staff were great.

This hotel had many good "points" We had an excellent breakfast, There was a good parking facility. Service was excellent and reception was extremely helpful. Room was quite big with an ironing facility. I had one problem though: The place was rather dusty. Also take into account the hotel is not in a tourist location - but still rather close to them if you are traveling with a car.

Good price for a suite, shame about the bathroom
Excellent fifth floor room spoilt by a shower above the bath where our heads touched the sloping roof even if we knelt down (I am 6ft 4ins in height and my wife is 5ft 7ins). Recommend potential guests check they are not allocated rooms on lower floors which would probably solve the problem.

This room was exactly what we were looking for. We had a quiet night's stay after a long day of exploring the fjords, and a reasonable breakfast before launching off again the next day. The staff were very friendly and helpful, happy to speak with us in either Norwegian or English. The room had paired twin beds that were pretty good, but not wonderful. Despite the fact that the hotel is right next to the main drive for the neighborhood, we were not disturbed by any traffic noise. There was free parking for our rental car, an unusual feature relative to most of the other hotels on our trip. The Ålesund area is stunningly beautiful, and this hotel gave us great access to everything we wanted.

The hotel is not far from Aalesund - about 15 minute drive. The hotel itself is nice, but old and needs a refurbishment. This didn't bother us much though. There is bowling and supermarkets next door.

Great Stay but far from the city
Stay was really good with amazing breakfast. Though it's far from the city the stay was really comfortable with great service. Shuttle services available to airport and train station , it was absolutely necessary to have the shuttle service because the hotel is in the middle of no where.

Good stay near to Alesund
Touring Norway and Alesund was on the route. This hotel is some miles from Alesund but the central hotels have issues with parking so we decided to stay in this hotel where parking is not a problem. Alesund is very attractive so do take the time to visit, especially from the viewing point to which you can drive, or take the many steps from the town itself. Dinner was not available when we were there so we ate in a local restaurant. There is a bowling alley next door, the hotel is near to shops in this smaller town but nothing of great interest.

Baronen Hotel
The Best Western Hotell Baronen was a good value for the price. I stayed 3 nights in a single room on the 3rd floor. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. There was a good seating area and the storage was sufficient. The bathroom was clean snd well lit. Best of all the room wad quiet. I slept with my window open and after 11pm there wasn't any noise. The staff at reception, the cleaners and the breakfast buffet manager were all friendly and helpful. Everyone assisted me with bus schedules and nearby points of interest. The breakfast buffet was kept stocked and their were plenty of items to choose from, both hot and cold. Finally, I really appreciated the free coffee and waffles in the lobby.

Not too far from the beautiful Alesund if you have a car. Free parking. Very good breakfast, free tea, coffee and cookies in the lobby. The room was pretty big. Old building, old lift, no A/C. Couldn't sleep with the open window in the morning because of the seagals.

Great option outside Alesund
This hotel met all of our needs professionally and courteously. It is large enough that there is someone manning the reception desk at all hours (unlike some of Norway's smaller hotels that frown on late arrivals). Good breakfast with lots of options (coffee was poor, but alas, that is true of many Norwegian hotels' breakfasts). Easy drive to Alesund on the following morning. Great value for money.

The hotel was nice with fast internet. The "gym" and "pool" don't really exist. The woman at the front desk was perplexed when we asked about the pool. It took her about a minute to realize that the local community has a pool that the hotel supposedly uses. She directed us on a "10 minute walk" and we got really lost and wandered this suburban community for three hours. Why? Because the hotel isn't in the city of Alesund. It's about 20 minutes by car.

Spacious Room. Great Waffles!!
Very large room with comfortable beds. As well as complimentary breakfast hot food was also available in the evening when I arrived - including freshly cooked waffles!! Located a short drive from the centre of Alesund this is much better value for money than similar hotels in the City, yet still conveniently located for onward travel.

Very good wide-choice breakfast included in the price. They have the same breakfast served in the evenings - it is NOT included in a room rate in the evenings, one should pay NOK 85.00 yet with the prices for food in Norway (a cup of coffee starts from NOK 25, fish and chips portion in a restaurant starts from NOK 125) it is really great value for money. Teas and coffee are served 24 hours, 7 days a week near the dining room. The room insulation is fine too - there were a lot of families with the kids and we were not disturbed during our 6 days' stay. We consider it much better than the Travelodge chain of hotels in UK.
