"Property was clean, well maintained and historic."

Hospedium Hotel Doña Mafalda de Castilla

8/10 Good

"We stayed for two nights travelling to our destination and two nights a fortnight later on the way back. On both occasion there was no evening meals available due to closure of resturant. This was a bind as it meant driving into town, then walking around looking for somewhere to eat, most places being shut on Mondays and Tuesdays. Apart from that the hotel was a good stop off for a couple of nights."

Casa Rural el Rincón de Monfragüe

10/10 Excellent

"The hotel and hotel staff were excellent. The breakfast is outstanding! Our only issue was with Hotels.com who sent us several messages from the hotel highlighting trips and visits we could take. The did not pass on requests from the hotel to confirm our arrival time. As they did not have our telephone number, they could not contact us directly so this took a while to resolve."

Hotel La Encomienda

10/10 Excellent

"This hotel was great! While the immediate neighborhood is a little worse for wear in some ways, don’t let that put you off. This is a really nice hotel in a really nice little town. If you have time, walk across the stone arched bridge and enjoy the beautiful park on the other side. There are food stores, restaurants and everything you need - and the hotel it itself was great."

La Posada de Grimaldo

10/10 Excellent

"A really nice relaxing place with a personal check-in. The rooms are large and nicely furnished. There is a very useful communal kitchen shared between the 3 rooms to help yourself to cheese, fruit, bread, tea and coffee. There is a bar that serves food one minute away. Overall highly recommended"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Morcillo?

The best area to stay in Morcillo is within the village centre itself, as it offers the most convenient access to local amenities and a genuine experience of village life.

Morcillo is a small, traditional Extremaduran village. The centre is characterised by its main square, Plaza de España, and the Church of San Andrés Apostol. Streets are generally narrow and winding, typical of Spanish villages, and you'll find a few small shops, bakeries, and local eateries clustered around the square. It's a quiet and friendly place where daily life unfolds at a relaxed pace.

For couples seeking a tranquil escape, staying in a guesthouse or a renovated traditional house within the village centre is ideal. You'll be able to enjoy peaceful evenings, perhaps with a glass of local wine, and experience the unhurried rhythm of rural Spain. It's an excellent base for exploring the surrounding countryside and natural parks, with easy access to walking and cycling routes.

Families looking for a calm holiday will also find the village centre suitable. Children can enjoy the simple pleasures of village life, and the lack of heavy traffic makes it a pleasant area for strolling. Many accommodations might offer gardens or courtyards, providing private outdoor space for relaxation.

When is the best time to go to Morcillo?

The best time to go to Morcillo is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months.

These periods offer pleasant weather, with warm days and comfortable evenings, which is ideal for exploring the natural beauty of the region. Spring brings blooming wildflowers and lush landscapes, making it great for hiking and outdoor activities. Autumn provides a comfortable climate for visiting the surrounding historical villages and enjoying local gastronomy without the intense summer heat.

For those interested in outdoor pursuits like hiking in the Sierra de Gata or exploring the olive groves, spring is particularly good. The temperatures are mild, and the countryside is at its most picturesque.

Couples looking for a peaceful getaway would appreciate the autumn months.
