  • Cascate del Diborrato - Parco fluviale dell'Elsa Inside the residential area of Colle Val d'Elsa is a historic and natural landscape of enormous value thanks to the Elsa River which crosses the Val d'Elsa creating a unique territory. The river creates enchanting corners for hiking and observing: the engineering works for gathering water, the artifical canal system for carrying the water to the city, the caves. A particularly suggestive point is the Diborrato water falls, a 15m jump which is more than 10m deep, a sort of small lake where the locals used to go to cool off. Other places not to miss are the Grotta dell'Orso, the Conchina, the Masso Bianco, the Nicchia and the Spianata dei Falchi, each with its own particularities. This natural richness has been recognized with the institution of a protected area in the River Park of the Upper Val d'Elsa which includes the path of the river from the city of Colle Val d'Elsa which stretches from Ponte Santa Giulia to Ponte di Spugna and includes the Caldane, thermal springs which were known to the Etruscans and Romans.

  • #TroveOn Yes, Monteriggioni just might be the quintessential walled medieval village in Tuscany. It's small enough to perhaps be called "cute" but you won't catch me using this term. Monteriggioni began as a border fortress built on a round hill by Sienna against the Florentines. It is famous for the intact defensive structure that held up against repeated Florentine attacks in the 11th century; its 10 meter high walls and 14 towers can still be seen for miles around. Monteriggioni has been featured in movies as a typical medieval village. The village is slightly elliptical in shape with two gates (a third has been plugged). The major gate tourists will use when coming from the parking lot, Porta Franca, owes its name to the Via Francigena--Monteriggione was a major stop on the pilgrimage trail from Cantebury to Rome. The Romanesque Church of Santa Maria Assunta will offer assistance with housing for modern pilgrims traveling the Francigena pilgrimage route. Monteriggioni was a sleepy village of farmers and sheep herders as late as the 1960's. Today it exists entirely for tourists and pilgrims. You'll find wine shops, a tasting room, restaurants and hotels in the small village. This is not neccessarily a disadvantage, although some times it's nice to see some locals puttering about once in a while. Where is Monteriggioni? Monteriggioni is located in the province of Siena, 14km to the northwest of Siena (54km from Florence). While it can be done as a day trip from Siena, you might be better off staying the night--Monteriggioni is much more evocative when the tourists leave late in the afternoon and you can sit in a courtyard sipping a glass of Chianti. Monteriggioni is surrounded by vineyards, and is known for its wine production.

Fantastic farm stay

While the location is somewhat remote, the property was fantastic. The owner was very nice and helpful. The views from the property were fantastic. Parking is close by but not directly at the property and certainly not a problem.

Beautiful Villa!

My partner Noam and I had a wonderful stay this Tuscan villa! The interior decor creates a luxurious retro feel. The bed is comfortable and the nice shower feels good after dip in the cooler pool waters just outside the room! It was the perfect spot for us for a day trip to Siena and Voltarra. We are so grateful to our gracious host! Highly recommend to anyone wanting an authentic Tuscany experience!

Absolutely Amazing

This is an absolutely amazing place to stay. Truly a hidden gem! The property itself is absolutely beautiful. The views are incredible and the pool is really nice and clean. Grazia (the property manager) is one of the sweetest people and extremely helpful. She made our stay even more enjoyable. And the town in which the house is located is in a centralized location that makes it extremely accessible to make day trips to the popular towns of Tuscany. I 100% recommend this place and would book here again without a doubt if I ever return to the Tuscany area.

Lovely & Quaint Villa Stay

Lovely getaway in the Tuscan countryside. Accommodations were everything that we needed and the home was clean and cozy. There is no A/C, but that was fine! The pool was very very cold to swim in. The home is the lower level of where the host lives, so there are other people around. The host was absolutely lovely and patient with us even when we both spoke different languages. The address provided was a little hard to find, but we eventually got there. Loved our stay overall!

Beautiful home and extremely gracious host!

We loved this apartment! Perfect for day trips to nearby hill towns, as well as doing some rest and relaxation on the patio. This was a great way to break up the hustle and bustle of sightseeing Rome and Florence. On top of the beautiful space, Maria could not have been a more lovely host. She made every effort to make us feel comfortable and make sure we had what we needed. It is clear she cares deeply about the happiness of her guests. Could not recommend more!

Beautiful little place in Tuscany!

We had a great stay in this apartment! It was clean and very cutely decorated and had everything we needed for our stay. The access to the almost private pool just steps away was amazing and very welcome on the hot days. We had views to amazing sunsets right outside our door and we had many meals on the terra e enjoying the beautiful views. We made this house a base for our stay in Tuscany and drove around to see the many sights and beautiful medieval villages in and around the area. The place also has easy access to hikes etc. our host Gracia was very welcoming and helpful and made every effort to keep us comfortable and happy. We really enjoyed our stay and made wonderful memories of beautiful Tuscany!

Incredible View

This place was a great jumping off point for our day trips around Tuscany. We enjoyed the quiet location, lovely pool and spectacular sunsets. The host Grazia really helped make our visit special.

A wonderful Tuscan getaway

A wonderful, picturesque place to stay, only an hour out of Florence. Grazia, our hostess, was incredibly accommodating and a delight to talk with. My biggest complaint is that I didn’t get to stay longer! We will be back, and will definitely recommend to all who want a relaxing Tuscan experience.

Un endroit idéal presque hors du temps. Très calme avec une vue à couper le souffle sur la campagne du Chianti et avec San Gimignano au loin. Très propre, les lits faits à l’arrivée et changés en milieu de séjour. Grazia est une personne très aimable et de bon conseil malgré là barrière de la langue, elle arrive à se faire comprendre. Intérieur un peu vieillot mais fonctionnel et piscine très agréable, nous y avons passé 11 jours de repos.

FeWo liegt in der Nähe von Colle di Val d' Elsa. Wir hatten einen schönen großen Pool für uns allein. Die Aussicht von der Terrasse konnten wir jeden Abend beim Sonnenuntergang genießen. Unsere Gastgeberin Grazia war sehr nett und hat uns jeden Wunsch erfüllt. Wir haben mit dem Auto viele Orte (Volterra, Siena, San Gimignano, Massa Marittima und viele mehr) besucht. Da die Einkaufmöglichkeiten etwas entfernt sind, ist ein Auto notwendig.

Versteckte Ruheoase

Mein Mann und ich machten 1 Woche Urlaub bei Grazia Mitte September. Das Haus liegt sehr versteckt mitten in der Natur, der Weg dort hin ist mit Auto erreichbar, jedoch sehr holprig (mit tiefer gelegten Autos sollte man dort nicht hinfahren). Die Gegend ist sehr ruhig, bis auf ein paar Füchse die quasi fast Haustiere sind, begegnet man dort niemandem. Die Aussicht ist traumhaft schön, nur kann man sie draußen auf der Terrasse nicht beim Essen genießen weil das die Füchse riechen. Aber das ist nun mal die Natur. Die Räumlichkeiten sind wie beschrieben, bis auf den etwas alten Geruch im Schlafzimmer (Holzschrank) waren wir sehr zufrieden. Von der Unterkunft aus kann man viele Orte besuchen. Grazia ist sehr freundlich und man kann sich mit ihr trotzdem Sprachbarriere gut verständigen. Sie ist über den FeWo direkt Chat immer erreichbar wenn es Fragen gibt. vielen Dank Für den Aufenthalt und bis zum nächsten Mal!

Un merveilleux séjour

Nous avons séjourné en famille à quatre, une semaine chez Grazia. La maison est décorée avec goût dans un style toscan, la literie est agréable et les draps blancs brodés, magnifiques. Le plus est la superbe terrasse, la piscine à débordement sur un panorama à couper le souffle. Nous avons visité Sienne, Florence, San Gemignianno, Montergionni, Volterra et avons aprécié chaque fin de journée le retour au calme et à la campagne. Grazia nous a accueillis avec bonté et gentillesse, ses conseils sont indispensables pour les visites de la région. Nous sommes ravis d'avoir séjourné chez elle et aimerions tant revenir!
