"The Hotel Lago Maggiore is everything you’d want for your time in Locarno and more. It is modern, beautiful, sparkling clean, well-maintained, expertly staffed, and ideally located. What truly distinguishes the hotel is first and foremost how you are treated, from the warm welcome and recognition of returning guests to the attention they pay to every detail, with extra kindnesses that include bottles of water in your room each day and a thank you gift when you leave. The view from each of the lakeside rooms is absolutely stunning and instantly brings a smile to your face when you open the drapes in the morning. It is wonderful sitting outside whether on the room’s terrace, the rooftop terrace, or on the ground-level bar/lounge/restaurant terrace. The icing on the cake is the restaurant. Breakfast is delicious, as is lunch, but dinner is truly exceptional — do try the tasting menu for an unforgettably perfect meal! We had a terrific time and hope to return soon!"

"Nice location - easy walking to train, along lake ( both directions) and dining options Older building needing some upgrades (eg outlets for the floor lamp and coffee maker!) Lobby a bit tight, and understaffed at checkin. "

"Giving this a 3 because the air conditioner didn’t work and staff only gave us a bottle of cold water. This is an important issue during warmer times and it disturbed our sleep. Other than that, a fun hotel very walkable to the waterfront, station, Grand Piazza. Bus to Ascona is right outside and free with Ticino visitor card. Satisfying breakfast. A good Ibis hotel. "

"Beware when staying here. The AC in rooms is preset at 24 C with the ability to reduce the temp only by up to 3 C....netting out at 21C best case. Generally it did not work so our room was always about 23C, which for my family is too warm. Also the restaurant in evenings is absurdly overpriced and the food not great...they focus more on presentation than taste. The town is great so if you stay here walk to the village to eat."
