Monhegan Island Retreat - Spacious with 4 bedrooms and gorgeous ocean views.<br>
*We welcome LGBTQIA travelers and celebrate diversity and inclusion.*
This fabulous two-story, four-bedroom, 1.5 bath cape-style home on Monhegan Island offers spectacular water views from both floors. The house will comfortably accommodate a large group or an extended family. Magnolia House offers an open floor plan, which is flooded with natural light through the large picture windows and many skylights. Spacious, well-stocked kitchen with updated stainless refrigerator and stove makes cooking a pleasure. Sun yourself on one of three private decks overlooking the beautifully designed perennial gardens or enjoy the handcrafted stone fireplace on a cool evening. Lots of wood will be provided for you!
The separate media room offers quiet space for reading, relaxing, or family movie night with flatscreen and Netflix. House has several high-end Bluetooth stereos for streaming music on new and improved high-speed wifi. For extra guests, there is a full-size futon and a single pull out bed in addition to the bedrooms. Hopefully, you won't need it, but there is a large desk/office space on the second floor. Unlike many Monhegan properties, we are more than happy to consider pets.
Just past the Trailing Yew on Lobster Cove Road, Magnolia House is only minutes from Fish and Swim Beaches, galleries and the rest of the village in one direction and Lobster Cove in the other direction.
Bringing children? We have a fantastic wooden playhouse on the property (with a loft!) that kids love, plenty of toys, puzzles, games and Legos, beach chairs, books for all ages, and a perfect bedroom with bunk beds (and a pull-out trundle) on the second floor. For much of the summer, there are delicious wild raspberries blooming in the yard, and late summer/early fall you can find wild blackberries. These are not just for kids, of course...last week we made a batch of homemade raspberry ice cream using freshly-picked berries from the yard, and we encourage you to do the same!

Roomy and cozy house for our family of five adults. Conveniently located in the village, with easy access to everything. Host was very responsive to questions before and during our stay.
We have rented this house for several years now, timing our stay for peak warbler migration. It’s a great location and the island is beautiful! The manager is very helpful and the house is very comfortable.
Terrific house, comfortable, well equipped and cozy fireplace for chilly evenings (wood supplied). Accessible to local shops, eateries, and hiking trails. Enjoyed quiet evenings watching sunsets over Manana Island. We are returning in 2025-our 5th yr. staying in Magnolia House.
We traveled to Monhegan with our family (5 adults) for a four-day getaway to the island and were looking for a place that we could have our own space and a kitchen to cook in. We were super happy with the house, it was picturesque, with more than enough space for the five of us to all hang out together as have our own spaces when we needed it. The kitchen was lived in and had everything we needed and more to make family meals. It was very close to the brewery, as well as some of the trailheads to the east side of the island. It was the first time we'd been to the island in over twelve years, but knowing about the Magnolia house now, I'm sure it'll be sooner than that when we return!
The house was perfect for our family ( and dog) in location, size and accommodations. The kitchen was extremely well stocked with utensils, bake and cookware. We loved being able and eat together at the spacious dining table. There was plenty of space to do things as a group or with privacy. The upstairs master bedroom has its own private deck and views of the water. We enjoyed doing a puzzle and playing several of the dozens of games.
Monhegan is a gem of an island. We brought most of our food and supplies but enjoyed lunch out at the brewery and baked goods from several shops.
The hiking is amazing! Definitely hike the cliff trail. You’ll be in awe. Pebble beach and sea glass beach are favorites. Sunset at Lobster Cove (“ ship wreck beach”) is a must.
We’ll definitely be going back!
We were on the island for a week birding and painting with the whole family. The house is in the perfect location with all amenities needed for a great vacation. We're excited to book next year.
We had a beautiful stay at this property - it was the perfect place for our kids to enjoy the house, the island, the outdoor playhouse, and the great book collection! The view was incredible and the fireplace an essential part of our evening routine. Thank you!
Another great vacation on Monhegan. Magnolia house is terrific. This was our 3rd year staying there and we are all looking forward to being back next year! Nick, the property manager, was very helpful if we needed anything.
We really enjoyed the week. The house was wonderful-close to the shops, restaurants but also very private. We often ate on the back deck and our dog loved lying there in the sun. The front yard was also private due to the wonderful flowers but we had a lovely view of the water. We would definitely stay there again.
Another great week staying at Magnolia House on Monhegan.
It's a comfortable, well-equipped house. We all enjoy sitting in the yard (especially Dexter, my daughter and son-in-law's dog). Very private and quiet but also near so many good places to eat and terrific shops. And on a cool evening, the fire place is a real treat.
This house is wonderful and our interactions with the owner and the caretaker were very positive and helpful. The location is very good, the beds are comfy, the kitchen is fun to work in and we even got our laundry done down in the cellar. I can't say enough good things about our stay. Monhegan is a real magnet for us, but Magnolia House is now what we picture when we're coming to Monhegan.

we loved it!
Extremely welcoming house, beautifully sited; comfortable kitchen , wonderful fireplace (wood generously supplied) for chilly nights or rainy days,
Lots of good books, games, amazon prime. We eagerly look forward to our return next June.
The charming older home is perfectly situated on the island. It is spacious and accommodates a family easily. Our disappointment was a distinct mildew smell, especially in the side entry room where there is a TV/mud room. The house needs a deep clean and the basement has a damp and mildew smell- where the washing machine is located.
The kitchen was stocked with cups, plates and had lots of pans.

Wonderful Home on a Magical Island
If you've never been to Monhegan Island, it's difficult to describe. It's welcoming, rustic, and for lack of a better word, magical. I have gone for many years; through my own childhood and now with my children. The Island still holds the same charm. This year, however, was our best trip ever due to the warm and beautiful home of Shaw and Elizabeth. This home is a gem - homey and spacious - a perfect combination of "island cape" with all the modern conveniences of mainland living. Tons of room, indoors and out, for a full family, with unique and creative details throughout. Great for kids and adults. And the owners are tremendously helpful, gracious, and available. I would recommend this rental to everyone...but won't, in an effort to keep the Island and this house a secret gem!

Beautiful home in dire need of deep cleaning and new septic
The home is beautifully situated on the island of Mohegan. The home has great bones and was dirty. With a good deep cleaning and a paint job the place would be great. The kitchen floor is a broken mosaic that was falling apart daily. The water pressure was ok and the tap water had a red residue to it. The biggest issue was the pervasive septic smell that was really strong in front of the house and on the side all of the time. I m not sure if it was from the property or the house next door but it was bad.
The owner might consider getting a professional cleaning crew in pre-season,mid-season and before each rental. The person that is cleaning the space does a superficial job. We left the property much cleaner than we found it. Everything was grimy and that's too bad. There was no toilet paper on the premises.
The house on Monhegan was perfect for an extended family get together, with small children ranging from 6 months to 3. There are a wide range of toys appropriate for all ages, and a playhouse for the older children. The location is ideal and Elizabeth was responsive and helpful. Would highly recommend, and would certainly choose to stay here again in the future.
From first booking the property, Elizabeth was extremely prompt in answering all of our questions. The descriptions were all accurate and was the perfect spot for my husband and I, our 3 kids and my Dad and stepmom to stay on the island. It was close to town which was convenient, but it wasn't right in town which gave us more privacy. Nick the caretaker was great and checked in on us a couple of times throughout the week.
There were so many games and puzzles that we always had something fun to do as a family. We had fun outside exploring, going swimming at the beach, or relaxing inside. The kid house outside on the property was magical for my kids.
Highly recommend this location especially if you are bringing kids/family with you to the island. There was lots of room and tons to do! Will definitely be booking again!
We have stayed at Magnolia for several years now and we love how well it accommodates our large multi-family group. We are all able to gather and eat or play games together as well as have alone time.
We had a great time in Monhegan in a lovely comfortable house.
The owner was terrific in helping us before we even got to the Island.
Would love to return
