After spending 1.5 hours outside the door, VRBO finally contacted the owner and he showed up and let us in. VRBO shouldn't assume that anyone can make calls in Italy. "Call the owner" -- gee, why didn't we think of that? The keybox is too complicated. The YouTube video that showed how to get in was inaccurate. Overall a giant pain in the butt just to get inside the apartment. The trash/recycle bins are placed beneath a row of cabinets. and it's almost impossible not to hit your head on them. Apartment was fine and good location, but not a good experience.
Pros: the location is good - ten minute walk from all the sights and fun stuff to do. The internet is excellent - I conducted Zoom calls with absolutely no issue. There are also two bedrooms and each has a smart TV which work great. The A/C works very well, and it was extremely hot when we stayed there.
Cons: The day we arrived, there was a taxi strike. We did not find this out until our train arrived at the Centrale station. The manager knew we were arriving by train and that we planned to take a taxi, but did not inform us no taxis would be available. When we arrived, I explained the situation and she told us we needed to take the Metro and walk. This was fine, but it took us over an hour to figure out how to get Metro tickets, how to navigate the Metro system, and then find our way to the apartment. The manager complained about how long it took us to get there, "it should only take you 20 minutes from Centrale."
This apartment is adjacent to two other apartments owned by the same company. The walls are paper thin and you can hear every single conversation next door. This was not a problem until the next door tenant arrived home at 1 am from the bar and started partying with loud music. I tried earplugs and could still hear the music blasting. Finally, I went over and banged on the door. They turned the music down a bit, but continued partying until 4 am. The next night was the same story. This was really the biggest issue with our stay. Even when the partiers left and a regular family replaced the partiers, we could just hear every single thing they were doing - but at least there was no more night partying.
The beds have sheets only. No blankets. There are no blankets in the property. When I asked for a blanket, I was told that it was summer, I should not need a blanket, and if I did then I was misusing the air conditioner. I have stayed at properties all over the world in very hot weather, but this was a first.
Finally, the apartment and the apartment next door are on the same power circuit. The power went out the first night we were there, and my son had to go down to the basement to figure out how to re set it. It sounds like this is a pretty common occurrence. It was not a huge deal, but we had to make special care not to run appliances at the same time because the system seemed overwhelmed relatively easily.
Bottom line is, I would not stay here again. The manager was responsive, but was not particularly welcoming.
Right in the center of all of the action, Yet so peaceful
We arrived to this beautiful apartment tired and wary from delayed flights and lost luggage and was welcomed by the property manager with a smile and a cool glass of water. She went over the accommodations thoroughly and made us feel so welcomed. The apartment is literally steps away from every service you could ever want as a tourist or as a local. We were about a seven minute walk from the Duomo and so many incredible attractions on the way there. Shopping was off the hook but the scene is so beautiful shopping was not even anything you cared about.
We were on this trip to look for a home in Central Italy, now we know where we will be spending a couple of weekends a year in Milan. The only thing better than this place, where the property managers. Absolutely wonderful. For me it was a, “welcome to Italy.”
