Freedom Farm
About this space Welcome to Amish Country. Enjoy the picturesque countryside in the comfort of a converted Amish home and working farm, just outside of Middlebury, home of the famous Essenhaus Restaurant and Bakery and few short miles from Shipshewana. Rest and refuge are awaiting you after a fun filled day in the countryside. The space My hope when you visit Freedom Farm is that you find this home peaceful and reminiscent of a simpler time. Enjoy a cup of coffee on the front porch as you watch the buggies go by. Bring the whole family and spend time baking and laughing in the large farmhouse kitchen. While you're here consider a drive to Shipshewana to visit the shops or take in a show. Coming this spring you will find calves, baby chicks and a vegetable garden to enjoy. Welcome! Guest access Freedom Farm includes a convenient parking area right outside the fence in the front of the property. The entire fenced area is for you to enjoy. However pets (dogs only) and small children should be supervised as the porch area is not completely secure. Maximum of 2 dogs. There is a one-time time fee of $75 for pets that is required at time of booking. It is at the bottom of the VRBO reservation page. The front door access is equipped with a coded entry system. The code will be sent to you on your day of arrival. There is an outbuilding that houses yard games such as cornhole and bochi ball for your pleasure. A firepit for a sunset weenie roast or smores awaits just outside the fence line in back. You are welcome to visit the calves and chicks coming this spring or pick a few veggies from the garden for your meals. Adults must supervise children at the barns for their safety. The basement property and separate driveway is reserved for the owners family. Other things to note Freedom Farm was an Amish home for many years. In order to make it comfortable for the "English" electricity, air/heat and wifi have been added. The kitchen configuration did not allow for a dishwasher so a large farmhouse sink was added to make dishwashing quick and easy. This beautiful home proved to have its challenges to bring it into the 21st century and it does have a few charming quirks but I believe you will find your stay at Freedom Farm relaxing and equipped with everything you need. ~ Michele

The home was clean and comfortable. When in the area again we will check on this home to see if available. The local homemade bread and apple butter were both fantasic, we went to the businesses and purchased both to bring home with us.Thank you.
The house worked very well for a few days as we had some repairs done to our RV. Very dog friendly with a fence. Nice home that has been redone / redecorated to fit the Amish area it is in with all the amenities. Michele the manager is very guest focused. Would stay again if in the area.
This property feels like home from the homemade bread and jam welcome gift to the charming decor. Michelle had the home decorated for Christmas which our family enjoyed. The house is very clean, check-in and communication with the host was clear and easy. We definitely recommend to other travelers. 10/10!
Our stay in this beautiful home was wonderful. Michele was the most amazing hostess and went above and beyond for us! We were so grateful for her and this cozy home!
The home is set in a beautiful farming community. The home is on a farm, which was a reminder of my family home. We enjoyed seeing the horses, ducks and chickens
This home was perfect for our group. It was close to the shops and restaurants in Middlebury and Shipshewana. We enjoyed sitting out on the front porch in the evenings watching the horse & buggies go by. The home was very clean, modern, and decorated very beautifully with modern farmhouse decor. We very much enjoyed our stay here!
Host has all accommodations available that you could possibly need Even had a fresh loaf of bread when we got there. Very nice place plenty of room really enjoyed my stay.
We felt right at home here and have already reserved it for the Buggies and Bluegrass Festival which will be in nearby Shipshewana in September 2024. It was perfect.
Freedom Farm was a wonderful, cozy and peaceful place to stay while our RV was in the shop in Elkhart for repairs. Michele is the perfect host - friendly, welcoming, gracious and kind. Her house is bursting with beautiful but simple and thoughtful details and everything you need to feel at home. The location makes it a terrific base camp for exploring Amish country or South Bend. There are SO many neat things to see and do nearby. We’d definitely stay again!
We enjoyed all aspects of Michelle’s lovely home. It is very bright, inviting and comfortable. She has thought of everything you could need. Appreciate the tomatoes and corn from the garden. We had BLT sandwiches while there with the homemade bread she provided. Enjoyed visiting the ducks and chickens too. If we ever return to the area we will definitely stay again. Thanks for everything!
House even better than the pictures.
Beautiful yard.
Heavier traffic than expected.
Excellent location but thought it would be more rural
Very comfortable bed
This was our second stay at Michele's Freedom Farm...my husband and I love its relaxing farmhouse vibe. Spacious and clean...plenty of hot water...comfortable beds...and TV's! Hosts Michele and her daughter Trinity are super lovely. Side note...love watching the neighbor's horses play and run while making a cup of coffee/tea!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Everything was perfect. The homemade bread and jam upon arrival was a wonderful treat and delicious So clean, comfortable, warm, and inviting. Tastefully decorated. Everything new and works. We would definitely stay here again. Very comfortable bed. Even had fluffy pillows. Spacious and beautiful. Host got back to us in a timely fashion when we had questions. Awesome!!!
The hosts did everything possible to make the home welcoming and comfortable for guests! It was tastefully decorated and reflected the simple life of it’s history! The home was immaculate! We enjoyed the front porch, the individual cooling/heating controls for each room, the fenced yard and quality remodeling of the home!!! The hosts welcomed us with a loaf of Amish made bread and jar of Blackberry jam which was delicious! Would definitely stay here again! Michele was a great host! Thank you!
My husband and I stayed four nights at Michele's lovely remodeled former Amish home. Being pet-friendly we were able to include our 18-year-old toy poodle Soapy with us. We came to the area to see the Quilt Gardens...something I have been wanting to do for some time.
The ranch style house is beautifully decorated and supplied with all the amenities...fully equipped large kitchen, washer/dryer, flat screen TV in living room and bedrooms, HVAC in every room. Our queen size bed was very comfortable. The house has a lot of windows (each with its own privacy shade) overlooking the countryside...you can see the sun come up in the morning and set in the evening.
The house is located about three miles south of Middlebury on a busy two-lane road (IN 13). There is both Amish buggy and commercial truck traffic. This traffic does produce road noise that I am not used to. Fortunately, the bedrooms are located on the back side of the house so that helped to minimize the din of the road noise when sleeping.
Very easy communication with Michele via texting throughout our stay. We had the chance to meet her before we left as she worked in her veggie garden near the house...she is a very lovely lady!
My sister and I truly enjoyed our weekend stay at Freedom Farm. Everything we needed was provided (and then some!) The house was comfortable and our favorite spot was the front porch where we watched the buggies go by. Some folks even waved to us! Thank you, Michelle for a wonderful break from reality!
