We greatly enjoyed our time on this property. It’s steps away from beach access. There is plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for our family. Great views of the Lake. Could use some updating and trimming of some trees for better views but over all decent for the price.
The check in process was very easy the host sent me the info I needed a couple of days ahead of the trip so that I knew what to expect. The property does have several steps to go up from the parking area to the home, Keep this in mind when you are packing. The house was beautiful and very clean. We enjoyed are stay and we were happy to find a property that allowed dogs. If you are planning a stay in Michigan City I recommend checking it out as long as the steps don't bother you.
We loved the access to the lake and there was enough bedroom access to sleep 15. The kitchen was stocked for us as well.
The mattresses were dated and don’t plan on using the crib there. It’s broken. Otherwise it had all the bedrooms you need and the air conditioning worked great when it got hot!
The house was clean and quite adequate for our 3 day stay. We met Mr. Marshall when we arrived (he was there with a crew working on furniture and some repairs). He was very pleasant, as was the crew.
We like to cook for ourselves. The stove was not completely functional -- shelves do not fit, and the interior needs a good cleaning. The towel rack above the second floor bathroom toilet is pulling of the wall and could use some attention.

We had a great time here for a family get together with several young kids (0-4 yrs). We appreciated the number of rooms and beds, great price, easy walking access to the beach, and the kid toys, games, and beach stuff available from the hosts. It is an older house with some minor maintenance needed, but nothing that impacted our stay.
This place has a beautiful view over housetops of the lake. Lots of seating on two decks for the view. Plenty of parking. The house accommodated our group of 15, with spaces to eat, put together a puzzle, play board games and be in the same area. A short walk to the beach. The host answered our questions quickly before arrival. The place is older but clean. The kitchen was supplied with nice pans and basic dishes.
Great location! Being able to walk to the beach was wonderful. We had ample space for our large family. Loved having the fire pit in back. Would book again.
Plenty of sleeping space for our group of 10, and plenty of outdoor deck space for eating and viewing.
We cook our own meals, and found the kitchen lacking in equipment, etc for this purpose: for example, the only measuring cup was a single half-cup. Nine forks only, though it sleeps 15.

1930's house
The house is 1930,s. Plenty of room for a large family. Six bedrooms were adequate! Negative- 30 steps to climb to access the house. Some repair and updating is needed.

MI City Beach
Nice location overall, but a few outdoor maintenance issues were a distraction. Top level deck looked like a family of raccoons had been living on it that left many piles of “debris” in multiple location. That combined with an unsecured hand railing left the deck unusable. Trash cans were completely full when we arrived. Base ment entry was full of leaves and sand that tracked into the house. It took several calls to finally get a few of the issues addressed before we left. Also, no working smoke alarms that we could find, although there were several disconnected ones sitting on a closet…

Nice place to stay.
The house was clean and nice for the age. It was perfect for our family to have a space we could all enjoy together.
We had a crawling infant and the floors were swept but not mopped.
2 of the exterior doors to the house are hollow core doors and not secure, a safety issue.
The main floor deck railing was falling down, a safety hazard. Also the deck stair was falling apart, another safety hazard.

Ok for a day or two
The AC upstairs was non existent. The cleaning service could do a better job of cleaning by moving furniture and lifting the cushions on the couches. Half of the window coverings were minimal or non existent. Don't plan on sleeping beyond sunrise. The drain in the basement shower backed up. The railing on the upstairs balcony was not attached to the house. Very dangerous. The smoke detector on the main floor was missing. Closet doors were broke. The view from the front deck was obscured by overgrowth. You could see the lake from one small spot. Had to buy batteries for one of the remotes as they were missing. Online listing and photos need to be updated. I will give the kitchen a good review. Plenty of dishes and cookware.

Very dirty house that needs updating
The location of the house was good it was an easy walk to the beach however the house itself was very dirty. There was black mold all over the bathtub grout which was rotting the floor underneath. All the air vents were covered in dust and debris. The upstairs was carpeted and you could see layers of dust and junk under all the beds which unfortunately I had to see while looking to make sure the kids didn’t leave toys behind. The air conditioning didn’t properly cool off the upstairs where the majority of the bedrooms were. All of the furniture was very old and the decks need to be better maintained. The upper deck railings were so loose we couldn’t let the kids go up there. I think that if you’re hosting your home and charging people a cleaning fee the house should be clean and this was unacceptable. To charge that much for a dirty house is shameful. We’d really like some money back to be honest!

Great location, okay house
My family of 8 adults, 5 kids stayed here for a family vacation. We loved Michigan City, and the place fit our family great, but we probably wouldn’t stay at this place again. The towels were all damp upon arrival, which the host did respond to - the cleaning company brought more towels but those smelled like smoke. There were no beach towels. There were beach chairs and toys to use which was great! The basement bedroom has unsealed windows which caused bugs to enter the room and even the bed, so we didn’t use that room the whole time - I messaged the host about this but didn’t get a response. The grill, oven, cookware, etc were all usable but not as clean or well kept as I typically use in my own home! Most of the bedrooms are also on the top floor which were hard to cool down while we were there despite blasting the AC. All that being said, we loved the trip because our access to the beach and town was excellent, and the views from the deck were great (though the deck and table are a bit aged)! There are also 30 stairs from the car to the front door, which was fine for us but could easily be an issue for some. It’s not a bad place to stay, but be mindful of these things when booking.

A Big Disappointment
The location is great, and the beach is close and beautiful. Unfortunately, the property itself was a huge disappointment. There are so many things wrong with this place that I will not attempt to list them all, but I will share a few. The front yard (see pic) that is so overgrown with weeds and untrimmed trees that there is barely a view of anything. Then there was the clogged shower which left the basement flooded. The host was quick to come and address the issue, which was appreciated but if this place was well cared for, such things wouldn’t happen. We had to scrape and scrub the grill, including the crusted burners, before we could get it to work, which was after we had already replaced an empty propane tank. One of the things that drew us to this place was the decks. The pictures of the decks on VRBO look great. Trust me, they are NOT great. In fact, the upper deck that offers the best views of the lake was unusable because the railings were unfastened in many places and barely fastened in the other places leaving it unsafe for use. All in all, this place suffers from real neglect. We did not get what was advertised and It was not worth the money we spent for our 4 night stay.
1- told to use outside basement door to access basement HOWEVER the entrance was full of old leaves, stuff, & active spiders. Banister on inside is needed
2- 2 showers in basement are advertised but there is only 1.
3- shower door in bathroom behind kitchen would not secure. Catching a washcloth in door helped
4- toaster would not work when plugged into receptacle next to refrigerator. When moved to a different socket the toaster worked.
Lots of space and host was communicative. Lake view getting to beach were good. I sent two poor reviews and asked if the issues outlined could be addressed before our stay. Host said yes but none were addressed.Pictures on the listing are deceptive. Property not maintained:1. overgrown weed trees encroaching on the deck blocking views2. deck rotting and in need of power washing and pounding in nails. Railing loose in places3. chaise lounge chairs covered in mold4. debris & cigarette butts around house and in the yard.5. no way to rinse the sand off before entering house6. two propane grills in back filthy.7. mold in bathrooms, & basement shower does not drain, overflowing the tray. Middle bath shower door doesn't close all the way8. no shampoo or soap for showers9. hand soap refilled with water10 no filter in refrigerator11. burnt out light bulbs12. floor swept but not cleaned.13. ac vents to upper level not flowing. had to set ac to 67 to cool to 75Host definitely needs to invest in the property.
We were so excited to stay in Michigan City and even possibly rebooked for next year. The pictures advertised are old. The house was run down and not clean at all. The router was broken, so no TV, or internet for our extended weekend. We did not feel comfortable replacing the equipment and asked for a repair to happen. It did not. Even worse, a toilet ran and ran and did not flush, the beach equipment promised was dirty and broken, the outside of the kitchen cabinets were sticky with dirt. We were given only one key. I took pictures of all of this stuff. As a long time Vrbo renter, I was very disappointed and expect the host to reimburse me for some of my money. This has never happened before and I’ve rented in multiple states.
The house has aged likely close to a decade since the listing photos were taken & doesn’t appear to have been well maintained since those photos either. The wood on the deck & furniture on it is all worn, splintered, and rotted out in some places. The grassy hill in front is overgrown with weeds and shrubs that haven’t been properly cut back which partially obstructs the view toward the lake. The upper deck is also worn with rusty rails. There were several piles of animal poop on the deck as well. The racks in the oven weren’t the right size, and immediately came crashing down when a baking sheet was placed on them. There weren’t any curtains/blinds on the main level bedroom or upstairs bathroom windows. No towel racks or hooks in the basement bathroom. We made due with a broken drying rack we found that was only operational after we stabilized it within the walls of a closet. There were only 3 washcloths in the entire house and no kitchen towels. Lots of cobwebs. Thick dust on several air vents. The exterior door in the bedroom upstairs that leads to the upper deck had wood rot all over and wouldn’t open, and there was a gap between the door and the frame so it didn’t entirely close/seal either. There was a leaky pipe in the basement. And the home overall smelled musty. We were certainly disappointed, especially with no response from host after a few of these issues were reported. Would not return.
Needed a big house for our family coming in town for a family gathering. Perfect house for us and great communication with the owners. Want to come back in the summer!
