We came to spend time with family over the Thanksgiving Break, and we thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet of The Heart of BigHole! We had everything we needed; the friendly folks of Melrose welcomed us; the host communicated helpful information in a timely manner, AND we even had a group of Christmas Carollers sing us a song due to being in the right place at the right time!
Brian was great to work with. We decided to leave our home early and got to the cabin prior to scheduled check in. Brian was welcoming and allowed access to the property.
The mud room is perfect to hang waders and your gear. Kitchen is great to cook meals. The property is plenty big to park your drift boat with your truck.
Only thing was that I thought the listing said wifi but there was no internet. Admittedly, I could be wrong and perhaps misread. So we walked over to the bar to watch basketball and hockey. Hitching Post is a great place for a meal and a beer. Just a quick walk from the place.
What was not discussed in the listing is Brian's amazing CD collection. Every possible genre and some classics can be found.
In summation, great fishing cabin. Brian is a great and friendly host. I'd go back the next time in there to fish the Big Hole.
Our Trout Church stay was more than we could have asked for. It was more spacious than originally thought with the perfect amount of amenities and layout for 4 guys to enjoy the luxuries of a cozy cabin with great proximity to elk/deer hunting and fly fishing the Big Hole. Brian and Carey were great to work with and we will definitely be back!

Great place close to the river. Good price.
Needed a few good fans because it was so hot. The mosquito’s were out of control so could not leave the doors open. Days on the river were beautiful. Thank you for the use of your cabin
This comfy, roomy, cabin in Melrose offers a premier jumping-off location for ALL of Montana's outdoor activities. I've stayed here several times now for fly-fishing trips on the Big Hole, Beaverhead, and Jefferson rivers, as well as elk hunting in the fall. My family and I have rented it just to get away and explore the Pioneer Mountains, Humbug Spires Wilderness Study Area, and Bannock Ghost Town.
The cabin is more than accommodating, complete with all of the amenities. You are a short walk to the Big Hole river and several trail-heads are within a quick drive. The owners are great and always had the place stocked and ready to go. This little pocket in Montana is one of my favorites. It really does give you the feel of being away from it all. Best part is that I can get there from Missoula in just under two hours!
