What's nearby

  • "Until standardisation of weights and measures in the 18th century, a "mile" in Scotland could be a variable distance. Generally a Scottish mile was longer than a mile in England, a fact which was immortalised by Robert Burns in his poem "Tam o' Shanter" - "We think na on the lang Scots miles..."

After the Union of the Parliaments in 1701, the standard English measure began to be introduced in Scotland, gradually replacing the Lang Scots Mile. The Lang Scots Mile Walk was created in 2002 on the seafront of Ayr to commemorate the town's historical links with Burns as well as to encourage healthy exercise. It was estimated that a 10 stone man or woman walking Lang Scots Mile would burn off 115 calories and a 16 stone person, 184 calories."

Beautiful cottage in Castle grounds

This holiday cottage was everything we had hoped for. Could not believe how spacious it was and our family from Usa said what a find mum! They all enjoyed the walks within the grounds and the quietness . One thing I must say having a baby with us we found the Mackenzie cottage ( also my new grandson's name ! )had a washing machine which was not listed in the brochure, so having booked for a week this was a bonus for all. The staff all perform amazing work who deserve my 5 star review. The Mcclymont's

Renovated Stable Felt Like Our Castle

This property goes way beyond the photos and description. The place felt like home, a well decorated and appointed home. The grounds were beautiful and gave us opportunity for some amazing walks. We just loved it!!
