This hotel is more like a guest house than a hotel; it is that personal and thoughtfully designed and decorated. The owners are on site and are so charming and welcoming. Staff goes beyond what one might expect.
Wonderful stay, beautiful service, so much food at dinner, and exquisite surroundings. Nothing beats a chandelier in the bathroom! Very expensive but a bucket list tick!
This hotel is special. It is beautifully appointed and the service sets the standard for excellence. It’s beyond 5 stars. Our room and view were lovely and very clean. The property has wonderful spaces to relax outside. The breakfasts were extraordinary. The staff and the owners were warm and tended to our every need with great care and thoughtfulness. They were gracious hosts. We cannot recommend Don Alfonso 1890 highly enough.

From top to bottom , this hotel and restaurant scores 100 on my list.
A total pleasure…. They make you feel at home, and yet pampered enormously.
A wonderful experience.
The Don Alfonso is one of the most incredible properties I have stayed at. We felt like part of the family the entire time and the customer service is the best I have ever experienced. The food is incredible, the staff is amazing and the location is perfect. The “breakfast” that comes with your room is a 5 star full spread of pastries, breads, and whatever you want to order. My wife and I stayed to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary and will come back as soon as we can. Thank you to the entire family and staff for sharing your paradise with us, we loved every second.
I cannot speak highly enough of our incredible stay at Don Alfonso 1890. We felt as though we were being welcomed home by family. The atmosphere is so tranquil and relaxing, everything embellished tastefully with soft pastels of flowers and lemons and local fauna. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated with an in-room coffee maker and each day we would return to our room with a tiered platter of desserts and finger sandwiches - exactly what we needed to tide us over before dinner. Nothing was too much and all of our needs anticipated. A visit is not complete without dinner in the on-site Don Alfonso 1890 restaurant. We enjoyed the traditional multi-course set menu. Even though we were stuffed we couldn't leave a bite it was so delicious. The freshest ingredients, presented like artwork. We savored every bite. The included breakfast each morning was also a highlight. Thank you to all of the incredible staff who made our stay so special and especially Olivia, Mario and Ernesto. We will definitely be back.
This hotel exceeded all of our expectations! We wish we had booked it for more nights. Unfortunately, they had no openings.
Can’t say enough about the service and the gorgeous property. The breakfast was one of the best we’ve had in any hotel.
What else?
very nice hotel. Not cheap but quality has its price. We also had dinner in the restaurant. It was expensive in comparison with other "gourmet" restaurant. If you have the possibility ask to visit the wine cellar.
We received a warm welcome at this family owned hotel and restaurant. They did everything to make our stay very special in arranging for transportation to Sorrento and a visit to Positano. The breakfast is amazing and the cooking class was fun. Make sure you dine in their restaurant and ask to see the amazing wine cellar.
This family owned boutique hotel which is part of the Relais et Chateaux group is a MUST! The complex is a quad surrounded by 'typical' Italian Villas, anchored by their Michelin rated restaurant (had 3 stars in the 2000s, now has 2 stars) which had an amazing price/experience value and was nearly full every night. In the large courtyard annexed by the various villas there is a small-ish pool (which has a couple of spa-like water jets on each side) with a relaxing deck. Proprietor Mario and family/team make a point to see each of their guest every day to say hello and make sure their stay is going well (their motto actually is: "guest services as a vocation" and it shows!).
Since the property only has a few rooms, it never felt crowded (we spent 4 days there and only saw ~5 other couples) and the rooms themselves are very well insulated with good central air.
After 11 days in Italy and having stayed at 4 different hotel - this was by far the best price/quality/value and really the only place where they seemed to really care about their craft!
Not to be missed: -> they have their own farm 5km from the hotel where they grow fruits/vegetable for the restaurants (guests are welcomed to visit, sadly we were not able to make it) AND have an amazing basement crypt/wine cellar.
Tip 1: They make an amazing lemon liquor in house that is not to be missed
Tip 2: Breakfast IS A MUST / an experience on its own - plan to spend at least 45 mins - 1 hour to enjoy in the courtyard.
An outstanding boutique hotel and restaurant. It would have been nice to have a room with a view but the room itself was beautiful. The "backyard" of the hotel was a gorgeous area for breakfast, swimming or sunning and simple relaxing.
We checked into the hotel, it only has 8 rooms, ours was gorgeous, large with a fabulous bathroom, loads of soft towels, the bed was amazing - a beautiful terrace with views of Mount Vesuvius- our friends were given the cottage which was a divine house, bathroom and lounge downstairs with the bedroom upstairs and a gorgeous garden. Pool area small but sufficient as we had driven from the south and just wanted to chill for the afternoon. Dinner was an experience in itself, it’s all organic and mostly home grown, there were about 25 chefs all working extremely hard to produce a culinary experience which you won’t forget. Obviously, it’s pricey but you get what you pay for and it’s a fabulous experience not to be missed. Service is superb even breakfast was delicious and we would definitely go back one day and they are very proud of what their family has produced.
Fantastisk sted med veldig hyggelig vertskap, store rom med deilige senger stille, nydelig mat i restauranten fantastisk service du blir tatt godt vare på som gjest. Skal du slappe av og bli oppvartet er dette stedet.
Reviewing this hotel, and its 2 Michelin starred restaurant, seems the inadequate thing to do. Words cannot describe our experience at Don Alfonso 1890. The reception and service is second-to-none. The room was huge and gorgeous. The grounds were lovely. But best of all is the attention and care received from the sibling owners of this wonderful establishment, Livia, Mario and Ernesto. No stone was left unturned to assure our wonderful stay. And, of course, you cannot stay there without eating in the wonderful restaurant. Again, praise seems inadequate, but having eaten in many Michelin starred restaurants in Europe, this is on a whole different level. I booked this hotel thinking it was rather expensive, and left feeling like I hadn't paid enough!
