❤️ Secluded 1940s Romantic Tiny House on the River
Relax and escape to the peace and quiet by the Potomac river, and wake to beautiful romantic views of the river and mountains, in this romantic 200 square foot tiny house situated on 2.5 acres, 450 feet of river front land. Explore and take advantage of all the activities on the river and surrounding area. Fish, bike, kayak, tube, or just sit by the river and watch the birds and wild life. Sit and read by the river or in the quite comfort of the house, w/ a bottle of wine on us. Experience tiny house living with this unique home while still enjoying some modern comforts. There is no running water in the home and the bathroom is a modern outhouse.
This is a 1940s refurbished fisherman's cabin. It was likely built in or about 1942 as the original electric fixtures are from that date, we had to modernize them though as they don't meet current code. It is very likely that the structure was built to replace an older wooden structure in the same location. There is electricity but no running water, bottled water is provided. NOTE that the bathroom is a pit outhouse located nearby.
On the west side of the 200square foot room, you will find a very comfortable Queen sized bed with CertiPUR foam mattress and lots of pillows. There are several blankets. At the foot is a WWII mail crate restored and converted to a trunk that was found in the tiny house, used to store extra linens and blankets. Above the headboard is a fantastic decorative shelf made from river maple that fell by the river in front of the building. Right in front of the bed is a window affording great views of the river.
On the east side of the building is the sitting area with kitchen cabinets. The counter is made from old reclaimed barn door complete with the clasp. The shelves above are from the from of the barn door complete with hinges. Equipped with utensils, a microwave, dorm fridge, and crock water dispenser. A table for two in front of another river facing window.
Outside is a small porch with two comfortable chairs and BBQ, that has a commanding view of the river. The cabin and this sitting area are nestled back into the wooded hillside loved by a plethora of songbirds and woodpeckers. We have an unheated outdoor seasonal shower (turned off before first frost in fall). Home sits on 2.5 acres adjacent to the Potomac river with C&O national historical park across the river. This section of the river is usually shallow and often can be walked across, near Packhorse Ford. Between the property and Shepherdstown is the historic battlefield of Shepherdstown with walking path and markers.
Nestled to the other side of the tiny house is the very clean and comfortable pit toilet (out house). It is in the original location but all rebuilt with modern seat and plenty of privacy, well vented and stocked with hand sanitizer.
Full access to all living spaces, parking area, all yard areas. The river front and fire pit are shared areas with the Stone River house.

This trip was to celebrate my 64th birthday and wind down from my busy job It was perfect for both .. very relaxing, and very cozy. We'd love to stay again.
My husband and I stayed here to celebrate our second anniversary. We wanted just a quiet getaway and it was the perfect place. Definitely will have to come back again.
I had a great stay here. Cabin was very clean and cozy! The location is beautiful! Listing was accurate, hosts were responsive.
Definitely somewhere I would like to visit again.
Had a wonderful weekend at the tiny house! The host was communicative and the cabin was adorable. My boyfriend and I got to explore the local area and felt immersed in nature with all the comforts you’d hope for :)
Everything about this place was great! The view of the river was beautiful, the house was very clean and organized, and the town nearby was a short drive and full of interesting experiences. I would absolutely stay here again. 10/10
Lovely spot on the river for our new year’s eve stay. Would love to come back in the summer to take advantage of the outside amenities. Thank you for sharing your tiny house with us!
The cabin is cosy and nicely appointed. The Fall colors on the river were lovely. You are close enough to several towns to satisfy any urge to “people” but the cabin offers quiet and solitude if you want it. I’ll keep it on my radar for a spring visit.
It was a small ride outside of
Shepherdstown, with a bit of a hill back to the trail in the morning, but it’s a nice peaceful and comfortable little house. The location just next
to the Battle of Shepherdstown site was a bonus for this Civil War buff!
The cabin was perfect for a few days of writing and reflecting! Everything was very clean and it was easy communicating with the owner. The house is not "secluded" as there are neighboring houses on two sides and if I hadn't brought an ax/saw to cut my own dry wood enjoying a fire wouldn't have been possible. But overall a lovely stay and I look forward to going again!
The tiny house is exactly as described. Its small, clean, cozy and comfortable. The location right on the river is fantastic. Being able to have a fire right by the water each night was such a plus. In better weather would be a great put in for canoeing, kataking. Very close many historic sights, unique shops, and outdoor activities. The hosts are very thoughtful, kind and responsive. We will be staying again!!
The tiny house is indeed tiny but exactly as advertised and everything I needed. It was adorable, comfy, and clean. The outhouse was not my favorite thing in the world but definitely cleaner than any porta potty I have ever seen. Shepherdstown is very cute with great little shops and cafes. The area was quiet and the river was absolutely gorgeous. And most importantly for me, as a single lady staying there, I felt super safe. I'll be back.
It was a cozy little tiny house located right on the river. I came in January and it was about 15 degrees outside so I did not get to use the outdoor shower or grill. I was able to enjoy the view of the river from the tiny house and walk outside on the road (not too many cars). If it was any warmer I would have built a fire and sat outside closer to the river. I would love to come back and stay when it was warmer to enjoy the outdoor more. Perfect retreat to reset. Very close to a nearby college which has many food options and a close visit to Harpers Ferry to enjoy lots of hiking trails.
Me and my partner only stayed here for one night, but it was great. The host was extremely helpful in digging me out when I got my car stuck in a snow bank almost immediately after arriving. The electric heater was already on and they'd shoveled out a spot for us to park. It was a little cold at first, but it was also about 18 degrees F outside. Once the gas heater was on and had some time to work, it was plenty warm. I love how downtown was about 5 minutes away, but the property was still in a very mellow, calm neighborhood with a great view of the river and plenty of space between houses.
A beautiful location on the Potomac River. Shepherdstown not even a mile down the road. Perfect! We arrived to a very cozy cabin. So relaxing. Comfortable bedding, great lighting inside. Great set up! Love the light on the side near the outhouse very convenient. Turn on the porch light, and the side light towards the outhouse will be on for you. The outhouse was very clean and spacious! Careful of webs and spiders we are in their space after all. We love how it's built right into nature! Recommended for sure! Updates to provide for owners : check spices some are out of date. Previous visitors not washing the items very well. We swept the deck after the storm hit to help out. :) very safe and enjoyable time with nature..thank you so much.
My second say at this cabin, definitely want to visit again. The cabin is private, clean and cozy perfect base of operations for day trips around the area.
Absolutely Great stay. The host was outstanding and responded to us very quickly with all our questions. The history and the view are outstanding. We went fishing and walked on the Forge all the way across right at our front door. One of the best places I ever stayed. Must visit Downtown Shepherdtown and Hapers Ferry. Sooo much history . Also must eat at Rock Hill Creamery absolutely the best ice cream Ive ever had.
