Summary:
In one of Galicia's most beautiful and charming ports, Puerto do Barqueiro, on the border between A Coruña and Lugo, separated by the Sor seafood estuary, this charismatic property with thick walls is a picture-postcard image. Built in the last century but recently renovated with meticulous attention to detail, it was once a refuge for hardy seafarers and today a haven for wandering travelers who gaze blankly at the sea.
The Space:
On the waterfront, at the foot of the port, tirelessly watching over the few fishing boats that still ply their trade among the sharp rocks of the coast and cliffs, inlets and outlets of the sea, beaches and coves of white sand, this tiny but protected corner shelters the fury of the northern sea beyond Cape Estaca de Bares.
Out there, lands and coasts that were once Celtic, a spectacular marine environment rests in tranquil times, with clean, clear water, with its people and customs, its fishermen and shellfish collectors, passersby who admire preserved customs or buy the fruits of the fish market after a night's work. Others savor these catches in the port restaurants.
Restaurants with meticulous cuisine such as Sobreposta, the authentic Bar Talino, a central tavern in the series "NEBOA" with Emma Suarez, with its Pota coffee, or La Marina; A family restaurant and guesthouse, or higher up with incredible views, La Goleta, Puerto do Barqueiro is a micro-world in itself.
Walking, we cross the Sor River across a pedestrian iron bridge, also called "A Vella Ponte," declared a Site of Cultural Interest, designed in 1880 and built in 1901. It was here that the inhabitants of both sides of the riverbank abandoned boats as the only means of connecting the two municipalities. On the other side, just below the bridge, begins one of the most beautiful and longest beaches of white sand, with crystal-clear waters, calm and protected: "Arealonga." Kilometers of beach that connect at its end to the first fishing village on the Lugo coast, "O Vicedo." Puerto do Baqueiro would still serve today as the perfect setting for those beloved films by Vittorio De Sica, starring Marcello Mastroianni and the spectacular Sofia Loren. But now, you can rewrite your own story, or simply watch from your balcony, sitting peacefully in front of the sea, while slowly delving into the pages of those books we always hope will accompany us on vacation.
