The Old Oak Boutique Hotel is a gem of a place to stay. The hotel is rich in history and although has all of the modern amenities you can feel the history all around you. The bed was super comfy and we loved our ocean-view suite that boasts three separate rooms (a bedroom with a cute balcony, a kitchen/dining area, and a living room with a couch and rocking chair for watching tv) and a nicely appointed bathroom.
Our hosts were super helpful when suggesting places to have a bite and grab a drink . The locals in the town were a delightful, colorful bunch who all looked like they belong on a movie set for a small fishing town (oh, and there is a fishery and stores to buy seafood fresh out of the water) and has (world/NZ?) famous fish and chips.
Stay here on your way to or from the Waitangi Treaty Grounds - a must see bit of NZ history.
