Enjoyed my stay here. Good location easy to get to main Madison district and good view of the river. Exterior looks dated but don’t let that put you off as the rooms are renewed and have high quality towels and bedding. Helpful staff and I really enjoyed the comfortable recliner in the room after riding a motorcycle through the area all day. I would definitely stay here again.
The hotel charged us twice and did not give us a refund. I dialed the charge with my credit card company and nothing. I really liked the town, but I won't stay here again ever.

Loved the view and the history of this property,,will definitely stay again
First time here. We were impressed, for the age of the hotel it is well kept and in great shape. My wife loved the balcony, we spent some time out there watching the world roll by.
Breakfast was standard hotel fare, but on the good side....scrambled eggs instead of those horrible little pre-made omelets, bacon (very thin sliced, my wife's favorite hotel bacon so far), sausage links, potatoes, waffle maker, bagels, bread, rolls, cereal, a very nice selection. The kitchen people were on the ball and kept things refilled when needed.
Everyone was very friendly and personable, from the desk to the breakfast people.
Room was nice and clean, with a huge bed. Water pressure was good, and you didn't lose 30 minutes of your life waiting for hot water.
All in all, we'd definitely stay here again and likely will as we want to do the jet boat rides which we couldn't get this trip.
I am from Madison and always look forward to staying with the Hillside and staff. Everyone is always very nice. Now the building is old so you have to accept some of the blemishes. My recommendation is stay in the winter when all the leaves have fallen and at night you can look down the street and watch the snow fall then go walking down main late at night it’s so peaceful and quite all you hear is the snow falling.
This property has a lot of character and amazing views. It’s not a new or fancy place but it was clean and it’s a great location. We were checked in by Kathy who was very friendly and helpful. Our room was on the second floor and had a lovely balcony with a small table and two chairs. We really enjoyed sitting out there and looking at the river, bridge and downtown. The room was okay, the only negative was that the sheets were old and had “pills” of material. During the night of our stay there was a tornado warning and we had to go to the basement at 3:00 AM. The electricity went out. We got back to our room around 4:45 and at 6:30 someone from the hotel knocked on our door and woke us up. He said not to use the water as the electricity was still out. He left a couple of bottles of water by the door. It was not the fault of the hotel that the electricity went out but it sure made for a rough morning. Not even any coffee to help wake up after so little sleep. But we did like the place and would stay again.
The room and hotel were clean. The staff was friendly. It was my first time in madison so I booked this hotel not really knowing much about it or the area but I will definitely book again!
For the price I would not stay here again. The rooms are ok but nothing great and are certainly showing their age. The breakfast was not very good. The best feature was that it was within walking distance of downtown.
The location on the hill is great as we had a room that looked out over the downtown and hills of KY. We really enjoyed our balcony.
The room was clean but the entire hotel is VERY dated. The bed was a 7 out of 10 for comfortability but the pillows were not good.
Breakfast was average for continental.
Our daughter was not feeling well the morning we were supposed to check out and I asked the lady at the desk in the morning if there was a possibility of having 1 extra hour before check out and she said it wasn't possible.
We also had housekeeping knocking on our door at 7:40 a.m. to ask if they could clean our room.
It was a mixed bag for us. Love the town of Madison!
Breakfast was good except for the powered scrambled eggs. Staff nice but we couldn’t adjust room temperature and there are no ‘extras’ like a workout room, pool, hot tub.
Breakfast leaves a lot to be desired (wet eggs, floppy over-thin bacon), but otherwise, it’s a great view, friendly and professional staff, clean room, comfortable stay.

Room was clean. AC was loud. Room was adequate. A good, inexpensive motel in a great town. I have stayed before and probably will again. Each room has a balcony.

The rooms and commons areas are clean, though there is a stale smell throughout the hotel, that is covered by disinfectant and cleaners. The hotel is nice for the price and I stay at least once a year, but the property is very dated. The balconies are probably the chief selling point, giving a great view of the Ohio River valley.
The breakfast is what you'd expect from a $100 per night hotel - bagels, toast, cold cereal, waffle-maker, and pre-cooked eggs and sausage.
The front desk staff is friendly, but the property is managed by camera - there are security cameras everywhere and the management/owners are not very friendly (I've had 2 separate interactions with them).
All-in-all, I'd say if you have limited funds and want a clean, comfortable room, this is a decent place to stay.
