"The Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott South Hill is going through a renovation. With that being said, the hotel was clean and our room was spacious and comfortable. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic! I have a gluten intolerance and for the past couple of months my husband and I have been moving from Upstate New York to Central Florida, and this was our final journey to Florida they were the only hotel that actually had gluten free pastries that I could have! There were only two hiccups while we were there but when we told the staff they were going to let the management know immediately. We would stay there again if we were in the area. The hotel by the looks of the work that was being done is going to look amazing!"

"The cabin is wonderful! The photos don’t do the property justice and you’ll be very pleased upon arrival. The back deck has great dusk, dawn and overnight sounds, including turkeys, owls, loons, all sorts of other birds, and out of our 4 night stay I heard coyotes 1 night. The host was very helpful in my time of need despite his family being on a very important trip out of town. If you’re not quite familiar with Lake Gaston/Roanoke River, make sure you understand the cabin’s proximity to the water and get a better idea of what to expect. "

"First impression was the parking lot; it is rough and very uneven. We arrived at dark and there was one other person waiting to check in at the time, but no one was at the desk. She called the hotel several times with no answer and then someone finally came out to help us. I used a 3rd party site to book. The person said we had to out a card on file for incidentals, it was $100 and just a hold not a charge. We checked out before 6am the next day and left. We literally only slept, didn’t use a bath towel or anything. On Monday morning we were charged $100. We called and said we’d be refunded. By. Wednesday we still didn’t see the refund and were told that the person who charged it was not supporting be doing that (happened to others to) and that he was no longer with them. We finally received the refund on Friday, a week after we checked in. We now know why the hotel across the street was full and this one was not. We won’t be back! "
