A lovely house in a dream location for one or two families with children, or for a family of up to 8-10 people, right on an idyllic lake. With use of a large Canadian canoe that is also great for fishing. This authentic Swedish cottage dates from 1938 and has been renovated in authentic Swedish style; it has a large Finnish family sauna, large kitchen/dining room, a play/music room with antique piano, two living rooms with fireplaces, two bathrooms, three bedrooms with 8 beds, a junior bed, and another double sofa bed on the large landing. Both bathrooms were completely renovated in 2024/5.
Because there are two living rooms, one of which has a workspace, there is always the possibility to retreat from a group.
Table tennis is played in the large barn. The house and its surroundings offer a wonderful open space right on the lake, a short distance from the charming skiing and cross-country skiing nature reserve: “Hövfjallet” and an hour's drive from the cultivated ski resort of Branäs.
Immediate surroundings
The house borders a huge nature reserve where you can find countless moose, roe deer, capercaillies, red deer, and sometimes even a bear. With a local guide, you can also go ‘wildlife spotting’ or ride sled dogs nearby in winter.
The house is located directly on a medium-sized lake that is a maximum of 2 meters deep, making it ideal for swimming. The large, safe canoe gives you complete freedom on the lake; you can easily paddle to the island to play or barbecue, or to the large sandy beach on the other side of the lake. A beautiful two-hour walk takes you around the entire lake.
Interior
The house itself is fully equipped and very spacious, including a dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, large garden with garden furniture and Swedish BBQ, a Harman Kardon player, an HD television with modern connections for laptops, DVD player with a collection of films on DVD, well-stocked bookcases and games. 4G internet is available in and around the house.
Surroundings
This authentic Swedish country house (in Swedish: villa) with 4 hectares of private land is located in the ‘Gooi van Värmland’, a picturesque area between Sunne and Torsby, near the enormous Fryken lake where you can feel like you are sitting in St. Tropez by the water, but without the accompanying hordes of people.
Cultural highlights in the area include the estate of Selma Lagerlöf and the Nils Holgersson park, named after her most famous work, with a sculpture garden and a large moose park.
About half an hour's drive away is our favorite skiing and cross-country skiing area, Hövfjallet, where you can enjoy winter sports in Sweden safely, exclusively, and affordably. There are 15 slopes, 6 lifts, a children's slope, and 5 extensive cross-country skiing trails through the nature reserve. Excellent ski equipment is available for hire and there is a great ski school where you can also learn the elegant art of Telemark skiing. There is also a fun park for snowboarders. In winter, this area is truly a ‘Winter Wonderland’ where King Winter blows frost onto all the branches and makes crystals float through the air.
