Most of the shops and restaurants are downhill so you’ll have a steep climb back to the hotel. Very close to everything and accommodations are very nice with complementary breakfast buffet. Would stay again.

The staff were very friendly. Our room including the bathroom was exceptionally clean. Disposable slippers and still and sparkling water were provided with a surprise. Though the room was a bit pricey, I would still highly recommend it to anyone who would like to stay with a walkable distance to Lugano Station.

Nice staff and hotel is right on perfect location. You can walk down from Lugano station. Breakfast is good. Shopping is walking down from hotel and the area is centralized. Will stay here again.

Hotel near train station and funicular. Nice view and walk way in to the Centre. Steep downhill with lots of shop, center with many good restaurants. Room was very small and bathroom tiny. Breakfast was good.

The staff were very welcoming and helpful. I liked this hotel also for the location accessible to lugano stazione. I would like to commend the gentlemen in the front desk during dec 13 to 15 of my stay. I forgot to get their names. I would recommend this hotel.

Room is older than what it appears in the photos. Generally clean but shower condition is fair. Water didn’t drain fast enough. Good location but I think the price is still high for the room standard. Service is good though.

Amazing hotel but difficult access

Check in was fast, excellent service by Mr. Giuseppe at the front desk. He was very helpful in arranging a late dinner for us. The hotel staff is amazing. The hotel is very close to the train station but reaching there with luggage can be a major issue especially at night or if the weather is bad.. the only access to the hotel is to go down through a steep hill or stairs. There is a cable car from the train station but you have to climb up the hill to the hotel. On our return trip, we had to take a cab to go back to the train station with our luggage...

We had a great stay here! The location was amazing as it was so close to the city center of Lugano. We easily walked from the hotel to all the busiest spots in the city. Amazing food surrounds this place as well as stores for shopping. The included breakfast was pretty good as well! The only negative experience we had was with one of the staff. I was pushed into getting a drink I did not want, even after I declined it a couple of times, since they did not want what I actually wanted. And after, I had told them I wanted to pay for the drink bill right away, not put it on the room because I wanted to use a different card for the drink order. Again, same person kept pushing to put it on the room when I had told them “No” about a dozen times. Finally, he gave up and left so I could take care of it with the supportive staff at the front desk. Other than that abnormal experience, we had a great stay!

Warm and friendly staff which went out of their way to make us feel wanted. Hotel Certaldo is within walking distance to Funicular for excellent food and spectacular views of country side. It also provides eary access to surrounding area including Carrara, Pisa, Siena, San Gimignano and Volterra. Its a hidden gem

I love the idea of Hotel Federale. It is an old Lugano hotel with many of the original design features still in place. It is close to the old town, the train station, and to the lake, just a short walk away. The bathroom was tiny and the shower had mildew in some cracks and crevices. The bed was comfortable. There was air conditioning. Considerating all the other places we stayed this was okay but not the best
