Book with confidence! In 2020, chosen by TRIPS to DISCOVER (now Holidays) as one of Maine's 20 Stunning Oceanfront Vacation Rentals! We have had 179 (and counting) complimentary 5-star reviews! Just about every review Likes our cleanliness, check-in process, communication, location, and listing accuracy. No surprises here, except good ones!
Safety is a top priority for us, so we have incorporated many safety-related items at our cottage: smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, fire extinguishers, a First Aid kit, fire blankets, a LifeVac choking device, roll-out ladders for each bedroom, dead-bolt entryways, and outdoor safety lighting. Also, all of our gardens are organically grown, and our cleaning crew uses only natural cleansers.
Imagine waking to a golden-glowing sun rise over a blue, sparkling horizon, taking in the aroma of brewing coffee, and enjoying it out on your cozy balcony in the invigorating early morning air. Heavenly.
Lubec Bay Cottage sits on a 3-acre oasis of wildflower-filled oceanfront meadows and bloom-filled organic gardens. Bald Eagles glide overhead, while clammers work the low tide out our back door. My cottage is a beautiful 2-bedroom home with two outdoor decks and a 2nd floor balcony off our master bedroom, all with breathtaking views - blue skies against a shimmering blue sea, with tall grasses and wildflowers blowing in the breeze. It is the perfect place to get out of the city and reconnect with nature and can be used as your base for all the adventures that Lubec has to offer. It is only a short drive to downtown Lubec and Campobello Island, Canada, West Quoddy Head Lighthouse, and so many hiking and sightseeing opportunities.
It has that real Down East Maine cottage feel that people love! And the sunrises and views seen from our back door are to die for!
Our 20 years of hosting experience really shows. Our recent guest from New York City, John wrote in his review: "Wow! Catherine and her cottage may have spoiled all future vacation stays for us! Her thoughtful communication, warm welcome, and generous amenities will be hard to match. The cottage is so cozy and quiet, with an incredible view, and perfectly located to explore the Lubec area."
The fact that we have so many repeat guests - one couple has returned every summer since we started renting our cottage back in 2008 - gives future guests confidence that their experience with us will meet and probably exceed their expectations.
Also, upon your arrival, you will receive extra special THANK YOU gifts for choosing Lubec Bay Cottage! And the special touches around the cottage will make you feel so at home. You won't find this at other rentals!
Imagine having fabulous bay views from every room and being surrounded by 3 oceanfront acres of bird-friendly organic gardens and lush wildflower meadows in a peaceful, rural setting. Stroll down our Boardwalk to our private shoreside sitting area with fire pit, which is adjacent to the renowned Sand Bar birding marshes. This enchanting cottage is situated in a breathtaking setting with spectacular sunrises and is beautifully furnished with fine antiques and coastal decor; a 1920's picture-perfect Downeast cottage that has kept its original character and charm, while having all the comforts to make you feel at home. So many of the other rental cottages here in Lubec have lost their Maine charm. But even with the many updates we have made our cottage still gives you that Down East Maine feeling!
We're located half-way between County Rd and the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse on the S Lubec Rd. You can find us - "Lubec Bay Cottage" on Bing Maps.
Because our cottage is a Maine DEP-certified Environmental Leader implementing eco-friendly practices, you will feel safe and be minimizing your environmental footprint during your stay. You can freely enjoy our gardens, lawn areas and meadow because they are organically maintained, and you also won't have to worry about harsh chemicals because housekeeping only uses GREEN cleaning products. We have implemented a recycling program, minimize our use of one-use containers, and encourage our guests to recycle during their stay.
Our expansive 400 square foot outdoor living area is a wonderful space for grilling, dining, and taking in the views on our cozy swing. With a balcony just off the master bedroom, you have a bird's eye, 180-degree view of the ocean and can see the Spark Plug lighthouse and Campobello, Canada! Also, we have added a cozy deck with chaise lounges for spending a lazy, relaxing afternoon.
Close enough for walking to South Lubec beach, our Cottage is less than 2 miles from West Quoddy Head State Park with Lighthouse and 4 miles from town and Campobello Island with its Roosevelt Park and East Quoddy Lighthouse.
Along with having an extraordinary cottage with beautiful surroundings we provide special touches that you will only find at Lubec Bay Cottage! Our cottage doesn't feel like a vacation rental - you will feel at home, like family.
We are very pet-friendly! Your dog(s) will love it here. On the property, we have a lovely meadow and lawn area; are adjacent to the sand bar marshes; and are close to the expansive South Lubec beaches. We also supply pet food bowls. Not far away are numerous hiking trails for you and your pet to explore.
Due to our balcony and steep stairs, the cottage is not appropriate for children under 12 years old. Elderly that have trouble climbing stairs may find our stairs too steep. All bedrooms are on the second floor.
Romantic Getaway: Lubec Bay Cottage is wonderful for honeymooners or for those celebrating an anniversary, birthday, or searching for a romantic getaway. In the morning, awake to a beautiful sunrise over the bay and sip your morning coffee or tea while relaxing on the balcony. While enjoying your lunch on the deck, watch the bald eagles flying over the bay. In the evenings, enjoy a fire at the shoreside fire pit; listen to the relaxing sounds of a foghorn; enjoy a romantic slow dance to your favorite song under the brilliant night sky. For indoor leisure time, play one of the several popular board games; warm up to the electric fireplace while watching a movie chosen from our DVD library; read from our library of sea-themed and Maine-authored books. All this without leaving the property!
Artist's Dream: You don't have to be an artist to enjoy Lubec Bay Cottage! But if you would like to bring your paints, brushes, and canvases for painting while on vacation there is a working studio for your use on the property. The situation is intended to complement the comfortable surroundings with an atmosphere of creativity. The Studio is an early 1900's rustic workshop that has been converted into a working studio with plenty of natural light, several work benches, a French easel with daylight lamp, drying rack, space station and cart, pack stool, designer's drafting table with ergonomic adjustable chair, and print rack. The picturesqueness and natural beauty of Lubec is truly inspiring and you will enjoy the luxury of having your own working studio. We only ask that the equipment not be used for children's play.
Birding Paradise: Lubec Bay Cottage looks out onto the South Lubec Sand Flats, debatably one of the top ten places to bird in Maine. Migratory shorebird abundance and diversity is among the highest along the eastern U.S. coast. Whether you observe from the deck, the balcony or the shoreside observation area, you won't be disappointed. You may also access the Sand Flats from the property. A number of shorebirds have been spotted including the Short-billed Dowitcher, Black-bellied Plover, White-Rumped Sandpiper, Bairds, Least Sandpiper, Dunlin, Semipalmated Plover, and Lesser Yellowlegs. The cottage is a short drive to other Downeast birding locations including Quoddy Head State Park overlooking the Grand Manan Channel, Carrying Place Cove Bog, Boot Head Preserve (notorious for its Spruce Grouse), and Campobello Island. For your use, we keep a copy of an excellent Maine birding resource, 'Maine Birding Trail' in our library.
Writer's Retreat: Lubec Bay Cottage is extremely comfortable and so peaceful. It encourages inspiration in abundance. This classic, cozy cottage with its surroundings stimulates creativity, feeds your imagination and allows you to concentrate without distraction. It is a perfect writer's retreat.
Lubec isn't another Bar Harbor or Acadia National Park - it offers all the beauty and adventure of those areas, but without the crowds!

We had a wonderful stay at this cottage and would happily return. The property was spotless when we arrived and was equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable visit. The location was absolutely beautiful—peaceful, quiet, and surrounded by nature. It was exactly the kind of getaway we were looking for. As birders and nature lovers, we especially appreciated that the backyard connected directly to a birding spot. Being able to step outside and immediately enjoy the sights and sounds of nature was a real treat. We spent many enjoyable hours watching birds and wildlife right from the property, making the experience even more memorable.Catherine, the host, was excellent and very communicative throughout the entire process. She responded quickly to questions, provided clear instructions, and made sure we had everything we needed for a relaxing stay and ensured everything went smoothly from check-in to check-out.Overall, this cottage exceeded our expectations. Between the cleanliness, the fully equipped kitchen, the breathtaking views, the direct access to excellent birding opportunities, and the attentive host, it provided the perfect retreat. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful escape.
A beautiful and ideal setting for birdwatchers and nature lovers. We had a wonderful time, loved the location for going to many birding hotspots, and totally enjoyed sitting out on the incredible deck overlooking the bay. The house is well stocked with any and everything you might need to enjoy your stay.
This was a surprise get away. With that, I was surprised by the location’s beauty and excited to stay in a cottage that was like a doll house. The cottage was well decorated, supplied, and overall clean. Being close to the West Quoddy Lighthouse, Campobello Island, all the natural trails, and of course being able to see the sunrise over the Atlantic where it touches the continental US first thing (while in bed if you so choose) is amazing!! Wonderful experience!
My wife and i decided to spend our anniversary here and fell in love as soon as we walked in.This little cottage was perfect oir little get away. The style and layout was just what we was looking for. Both upper and lower deck made the view even better. We loved the outdoor seating on the beach. I would recommend this place for a great little get away
We love staying here, comfortable stylish cottage, setting overlooking the field and bay is spectacular, has everything you need in house and Catherine is very responsive to questions. Was our second time here and we’ve booked a third for next year. Susan
We have vacationed in the area for ten years and always admired this cottage as we drove by. We are so glad we were able to stay week there soaking up it's natural beauty and artistic charms. With one of the finest views of the Lubec Channel and a most thoughtful and cordial host, we highly recommend the Lubec Bay Cottage!
Beautiful property with everything you could need. Offers spectacular views, amazing sunrises and comfortable furnishings. Lots to do around the area. Quiet and safe neighborhood. Definitely will return!
This charming cottage exceeded our expectations! The view was AMAZING and the beds and furniture were so comfortable! Its a cottage, so there are a few quirks that add character, but it's very clean and the personal touches show a lot of love for the home. Outdoor furniture is plentiful and comfy... my favorite was reading on the swing watching the birds over the ocean! Catherine was a wonderful host answering our questions promptly and checking in with us. We loved our stay!
The setting as well as the home itself are spectacular! The house is cozy, has everything you can think of, and the views are stunning! Our kids had a blast playing in the marsh at low tide- it is like a different world. We really loved this stay and hope to return again.
From the moment we unlocked the door this sea house had a calm , cozy, relaxed feel. This sea home is one that I will remember.. The charm of this home feels comfy and warm. Not to mention, a beautiful gift. The owner was lovely and very gracious.
This was a great place to stay – close to Quoddy Head State Park, and to the center of Lubec. Beautiful views from the back deck and second floor deck, and from the path behind the house that leads to a sitting area, with chairs.
Creative tasteful decoration of the house. A short walk, or an even shorter bicycle ride, brings you to Bar Road where you can walk right out to the beach.
This house had everything we could want: a well equipped kitchen, comfortable furniture, and two beautiful decks with spectacular views overlooking the ocean. This was our first visit to this part of Maine, and we loved the quiet and absence of crowds. There was even a separate art studio next to the main house! We look forward to coming back.
Our experience at Lubec Bay Cottage was nothing short of fantastic It was relaxing with breathtaking views. The cottage has everything you need to feel at home. So clean and immaculate. Catherine is the most gracious hostess you could ever ask for. We can't wait to come back next year!
If you are not a morning person, a stay at Lubec Cottage will make you one. Waking up to the sunrise outside the french doors of the master bedroom is just stunning! Our stay was exactly what we were looking for — quiet, relaxing, and much needed de-stressing. Hiking trails are 10-20 minutes drive away. Cottage amenities are well thought out and was much appreciated. Take time to read some of the framed items (ie article by front door, letters found when remodeling in master br).Note: If you’re a chocolate lover, stop by Monica’s Chocolates only 1.3 miles away from cottage!
I want to live here. I love the location, walking out to the fire pit seating area, the house decor, deck, and comfy beds. Proximity to town as well as Quoddy Head hiking trails. Good distance for day trips to Acadia and other lovely Maine spots. Catherine responded quickly to every message I sent. Smooth check in process too. I hope to stay here again and again.
My husband and I stayed here for a relaxing getaway!
Exactly what we needed. The cottage is beautiful, cozy with stunning ocean views and sunrises!
Our pups loved running through backyard and grass! A quick ride down the road brought us to the beach where we explored for hours and found some sea glass.
Loved this cottage for its beautiful yard (esp. hydrangeas and field), glorious views from the master bedroom and proximity to the West Quoddy State Park. The trails at Quoddy were superb and the striped lighthouse was a bonus (go for a sunset!). Campobello Island in Canada is nearby. A 30-minute-ish tour of FDR’s summer cottage on the island was worthwhile. (No entry fees. Bring your passport.) Watch “Sunrise at Campobello” DVD at the cottage before going. It tells the story of Franklin D. Roosevelt's life from 1921, the year he was diagnosed with polio while at the cottage, through 1924. I plan to stay at this pleasant cottage again soon!
Light filled, excellently designed, perfectly furnished, stunningly situated cottage. 2 bedrooms up steep stairs with high comfy beds. Full baths up and down, super deep and long tub. Every need is anticipated, including local products and guide books, mud boots, rain and beach gear, shopping bags and coolers. Spices and some condiments were on hand. I have never been more comfortable with a rental. The area is hiker heaven and good for boat tours. Lubec brewery and Doghouse are great. Cobscook Institute has interesting programs. Lots to do if desired but also nice to walk the sandbar or sit still.
Lubec Bay Cottage was the perfect find! The cottage was so well put together, had everything you could possibly need (in the kitchen, bathrooms, etc) and was just perfect for my husband, son and dog to get away together! The cottage was spotless, inside and out! Catherine is a wonderful host! We were greeted with a nice care package and fresh veggies from a farmers market upon arrival. She was always available by phone/text if needed for anything. We can’t wait to come back to this beautiful cottage and very quaint little fishing village.
I was familiar with the cottage from the outside having vacationed in Lubec, Maine for 14 summers. I had stayed in several places, but was not prepared for the truly lovely cottage look. Catherine has impeccable taste and it reflected in her choices everywhere. The house is a blend of comfortable cottage chic with lovely antiques interspersed. Also, every amenity was thought of, from a well stocked kitchen and laundry facilities to even extra touches such as lavender spray for the bed linens. I appreciated the emphasis on eco-friendly products as well. And don't get me started on the two lovely decks, the amazing views and beautiful gardens.
I rented with husband and dog. Cottage is easy to find. Located adjacent to sand bar. Cottage has a great, large deck to enjoy the coming and going tides and clam diggers. Loved sitting out each morning. Very quiet area. The peacocks visited each day. The cottage is quaint and lovely. Well equipped with everything. Lots of things to do: Quoddy Light House, Hamilton Cove, Boot Cove, Eastport. Water Street Tavern is a great place to eat. I wish we had found it sooner. Best to make reservations. Catherine is a great host. Dickens the dog enjoyed his stay too. Backyard is great place to walk the dog. It was so nice to wake each morning to a seaview. I would stay again.
3 friends and I stayed at Catherine's place for the weekend, and we had a wonderful time. The house is well appointed with your needs, like spices, and utensils; as well as personal and local touches like a welcome bag, and handmade soaps. The house is close to beautiful sights such as the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse, and Herring Cove in Canada. Many beautiful places to hike, explore, and be laid back.
We lost power, and I messaged Catherine, and she answered right away. The power came on just in time for our evening meal.
I would definitely go back to Catherines place again. It is beautiful to see the landscape from most windows in the house.
Thank you Catherine!
Our family of three had a great time at this cottage and it provided a perfect home base to explore! This home had everything we needed from comfortable beds, a well-supplied kitchen, and fantastic views. Wifi worked well. We loved sitting on the main deck and watching the tides. We walked from the house to beach a few times to explore at low tide. There is a propane lobster pot that we used to cook live lobsters outside which we bought at H&D/Shore Thing. We cooked a lot but also ate a nice meal at Inn on the Wharf and Cohills in town. Both excellent. From the cottage you can quickly access beautiful coastal trails, some less than 10 minutes away! Visiting Campobello Island is super easy as well. We loved the area, no large crowds. Lovely decorations and touches throughout the home. The farmers market items were a nice touch as well as the goodies! Thank you for a week of wonderful memories!
Overall, our stay in Lubec was amazing! The location was fantastic - beautiful views, and less than 10 minutes from town. The house was lovely and well supplied. The lobster pot was perfect and the kitchen was very well stocked.
There were a lot of flys in the house during our week there. Never did figure out where they came in the house, but they were bad and they did bite! Also a lot of spider webs that had not been knocked down in a while. The upstairs deck furniture cushions were too dirty to use, which was a little disappointing because the view is awesome!
As stated, the stairs up to both bedrooms are very steep! We are in our 60s and it was worrisome every time one of us went up and down…
The washer and dryer were fantastic! It was difficult to see oncoming traffic when you pulled out of the driveway, and unfortunately, some of the beautifully blooming bushes need to be trimmed for safety.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and this home would be ideal for younger folks who are not bothered by some very steep steps to get to the bedrooms!
