Private, Lakefront, 62 Acres, Sauna, Boating, Swim, 3 Fireplaces, Jetted Tub

Exciting plans for Morning Mist with a five month renovation opening in April. New everything with a new Artic spa and infra Red sauna. More details coming. Closed for New Years through the winter.

My name is Pauline Raymond I am at your service to create the best holiday ever at our fabulous five-star vacation property.

I had previously planned to have our Thanksgiving here and since opened to guests. I have dropped the price by 100 per night. It is stunning at Morning Mist Cottage. The water with the increase in temperature is warm and wonderful.

I was at the cottage this past week and decorated for autumn and Thanksgiving. There was warmth in the air and stillness in the air.

With three fireplaces and the cozy decor it is ideal for Thanksgiving. See photos in the gallary.

For those of you who would like to spend Christmas and/or New Years in the country we are open for the holidays.
Christmas is a three-night minimum to six- or seven-night stay depending when you arrive for Christmas. Please scroll down and see our beautiful holiday photos. I decorate for the holidays and it is festive.

New Years is a two night minimum stay and we welcome you to stay longer than two nights with a three to five-night stay.

This year I offer accommodation for eight guests in the main cottage double occupancy. We have a vintage bunkhouse that everyone loves and has a queen bed and two bunk beds. This is for our guests to use in the spring, summer and fall and not terribly cold up until we close in early January.

The main cottage has a primary bedroom with an en-suite and a king bed. The upper level has two queen beds in two separate bedrooms and a pull-out coach in the loft.

We accommodate nine guests in the warmer months and seven to eight in November and December/January. I accept babies under 24 months for free.

My rates are for four guests with additional guests at $25.00 per night. With a two year long renovation that included gutting the interior with state-of-the-art kitchen, new floors, insulation and everything in between beside the extensive excavation and renovations that included a new foundation.

We have big plans for renovating and decorating the main bathroom, a new six person salt water Arctic spa, two outside showers, a real treat...renovation of our original outhouse with a functioning toilet, additional docks and kayaks and so much more.

The summer with our beautiful lake and docks survived the fires, and then the heavy rains. We have two new youth mango coloured kayaks for six to 13-year old’s and a new two seat adult kayak to add to our two canoes. So much to do to create the Happiness that we named our cottage for.

Our property with privacy on gorgeous Lake Deception is one of a kind. 62 acres of land allow guests to feel they have it all and for those interested in wildlife deer can often be seen bounding through the woods. Birds wake me up in the morning as the mist rises off the lake.

Morning Mist is unique for its abundance of woodland, privacy, lake for swimming and boating and the history that has created what we have today.

Morning Mist is always a work in progress and the past few weeks have included more work. Three years ago I built a yoga platform/dock.

Everything in the downstairs was gutted and put back together with modern decor but keeping our beautiful rustic appeal. We have a brand-new country kitchen, a cook's delight. All new appliances! The floors are natural pine and our beach stone and brick fireplace has maple mantles cut from our forest. We are indeed a five-star property.

My property was stunning without updating however, I am in love with the accomplishment. This lakefront property with 62 acres of woodland is suitable for families, couples, female and male retreats, honeymooners and lots of children.

We offer comfortable beds, three fireplaces, a dry and steam cedar sauna, jet massage whirlpool tub in the master bedroom and everything you can think of to have a very special holiday. I

As last year, we have increased all aspects of our cleaning and sanitation.

Morning Mist is distinctive for its abundance of woodland, privacy and history that has created what we have today.

This secluded property of water and woodland is a step back to simplicity with countless amenities. Our privacy allows guests to connect with nature and have a sense of peace.

We offer everything... life jackets, firewood, outdoor fire pit and Geo Dome, swings and adventure in the forest for children. Everything is included, Weber BBQ, indoor stone fireplace, propane outdoor fireplace and our new round wood burning fire pit. Lots of space to move and do on this property.

For those looking for a spring and summer holiday the lake is great for swimming by the first of June and often swimming is refreshing through to end of October especially after a hot sauna.

This cottage is unique to Nova Scotia with "never before cut" hardwood and pine towering 80 feet in the air...until Hurricane Dorian brought down over 100 trees that now goes unnoticed. We have patches of sunshine throughout the forest.

Whether you are a single person, group, couple or a family with children this gorgeous retreat will entertain and delight all.

Only twenty minutes away are pristine isolated white sand beaches...The Sand Hills Beach and Roseway just a stone’s throw away. Swimming at these beaches is possible and very warm when the tide is coming in.

The Sand Hills beach in particular has the warmest ocean water around if the tide is coming in on a hot day. My children and I often left the cottage when the conditions were perfect at the beach to return to the quiet and tranquility of the lake.

Twenty minutes away we have a nine-hole Golf Club named River Hills Golf and Country Club and just a mere 17 minutes away you can enjoy our historic town of Shelburne offering fine dining, the home of the third largest natural harbor in the world.

The historic waterfront was the site of the film The Scarlet Letter starring Demi Moore.

Here are some of the vast renovations...

New dock 14 x 20 right on the lake

New stone-faced fireplace and maple mantle
State of the art kitchen
Foundation to make us warm and cozy in cooler weather
Insulation throughout
New pine floors
New washer/dryer
New doors, refurbished skylights, painting throughout, recessed lighting, upgrade to our cedar sauna and so much more....

The pricing reflects double occupancy. I have three private bedrooms with two queens and one king and a pull out in the loft and a bunkhouse with a queen and two bunk beds. My grandchildren love the bunkhouse as do teens and adults.

Morning Mist Cottage is special and it is the little things that make it so inviting.... I offer so much in one property and friends and families join together to create wonderful memories.

Our main cottage is named Happiness hence, "Come Home to Your Heart".
Whether you are a single person, group, couple or a family with children this gorgeous retreat will entertain and delight all.

We booked this beautiful cottage online we were very pleased with the location, the cleanlines and the beautiful lake! It was a peaceful place for my daughters 25th Birthday! We swam, fished, went canoeing (don't tell anyone I fell in at the dock) and panicked until i was told to Stand Up lol). I would recommend this cottage to anyone! We made a lot of memories! Thank you to our accommodating host! Until next time! Anna and family!

Do not stay here
My family and I stayed here for a week this past august, lake deception is a perfect name for this cottage. Unsteady dock, broken mirror, broken sliding door, outside light hanging by wires etc the owner states a beach area on property well there isn’t one. Hard beds cheap hand soap. The list goes on. For the cost she charges you would expect higher quality. As people who have owned a cottage in the muskoka this cottage is not even up to par. Do your self a favour and find something better.

Total Escape
Pauline has created a comfortable and authentic Canadian experience with her lakeside cottage. The cottage is well provisioned and considered and unlike many rentals, feels like a home rather than a rental. Clearly she and her family have loved their cottage and you feel that, making it so much more special. The lake is gorgeous and the many areas to sit and relax are varied. We were fortunate to have beautiful weather so the various water toys and swimming platform were amazing. A really lovely property that created happy memories for my husband and I and our daughter and son in law who live in London, UK. If I were to invest in the property further, I would suggest an outdoor area that is protected from the rain and would offer a bit of shade during the day. Also - our prolific Canadian mosquitoes can be a challenge so having a screened in area for the evenings would be a huge benefit. We did love the gas fire pit in the evenings. The two canoes may also be on their last legs as they do leak. A couple of stand up paddle boards? These are merely suggestions but we had such a fabulous escape from our normal lives and hope to return again to this incredibly beautiful spot. Thank you Pauline!
