The cottage was rustic but clean with some very cool old features. Driving through the vineyard was gorgeous but the rest of the driveway was a little sketchy. The steps down to the house were ok for us but I wouldn't want to see my parents do them. When you open the doors to the deck its just amazing. The view of the dock and lake were so beautiful! We watched a storm from the deck and it was perfect!
Such a nice stay - I was a little apprehensive with some of the older reviews but the property managers really thought of everything, even additional fans for each sleeping space and gourmet coffee. Super clean everywhere. Great location right behind Caywood Winery.
I'm not a fan of air conditioning so I loved the many screened windows and fresh air - it was a bit hot going to bed but the temps cooled off quickly and were in the 50s. Hearing the water lapping the shore was lovely.
The dock was amazing and I appreciated the kayaks - actually tried paddling for the first time while here. Kids/teens would love it.
It was a steep hike to get to and from the cottage from the parking spots and those with any mobility issues would have extreme difficulty. The switchback right before the property is intimidating but my brother managed it with his Silverado and my little truck was fine.
The word cottage describes it wonderfully. If you’re looking for a rustic get away, in a beautiful scenic location on the lake this is it. If you’re looking for all the luxuries of life this is not it. We lucked out with the weather the first few days, the last evening we slept there it was very hot! (But they do provide plenty of fans) Overall we loved Lolly’s for our quiet weekend central to many wineries!
Such an adorable cottage. Very neat and clean, with lovely decor. Loved sitting on the dock and on the porch. Very nice to have kayaks to borrow. The Homeaway description should note, however, that the cabin does not have an oven. Other than that, it was a lovely stay.
This cottage is very rustic. Not a place for someone who can’t walk stairs. The bathtub was extremely small and very hard to get in and out of. There was no television. There were things to do in the water in the shed by the lake. There is no ladder on the dock but its not very deep so you can walk back to shore. The beds are very comfortable and the porch was a great place to watch the sunset.

Corporate Promos
Location was as anticipated. Stairs to property had supporting rebar protruding above stair line - potential for serious injury. 2 rolls of toilet paper for 4 women over 40?? Way to much corporate reminder stuff in the house; far more than any hotel! 7 pieces in the kitchen, 4 in the bathroom, a book and 2 other pieces in the living room and cards in all bedrooms. Much to much. Otherwise, view was awesome, deck and dock lovely. Word to future renters - bring EVERYTHING from salt and sugar to coffee and tea and especially Toilet Paper!!!

Pictures tell a different story
Driving to the rental house was stressful. We were not aware of the skinny winding roads. Several times we had to get our suv around another vehicle coming from the opposite direction. We were not aware that between our car to unload and the front door is about 30 steep awkward steps that has poison ivy! When we arrived, it rained and the steps were so slippery, my father severely struggled with them. Also, no AC! We were there in July and no amount of fans could cool us down. The water filtration was such an issue. We discovered that it was being filtered by a pool filter! The filter was completely black, we ended up using bottled water for everything during our stay. After the rain we had no water pressure. Luckily someone came within 30 minutes to reset it commenting that it is normal after rainy days. No tv on the property even though it stated there was. Overall, not a good experience and would have like to have known the possible mobility issues and lack of AC before renting. Very disappointed.
We loved the cottage! It was perfect in so many ways. Rustic yet charming. Beds were extremely comfortable. Could spend all day watching the lake from the front porch or the dock. Great having the kayaks, which we used a few times to paddle to Caywood Point, which was a nice place for a swim. Saw eagles, loons and owls.
My critiques are minimal, but here they are:
1.) The Steps: The steps leading down to Lolly's could use some work. I recognize that they are rough steps to begin with, but they are uneven and slippery when wet. They could use some basic maintenance and upkeep or I'm afraid a visitor may get hurt.
2.) Cottage could use a toaster oven. I know there is no oven, and that is fine, but a toaster oven would have made certain cooking situations much easier.
3.) Screens: Most of the windows did not have screens, though some had small screen inserts. I would recommend you provide at least screen inserts for ALL windows to take advantage of any cross breeze you get on hot days. The ceiling fans were awesome and we used them constantly, but a cross breeze from the windows would have helped that much more.
4.) The Dock: It would be good to have a ladder at the end of the dock. If you wanted to attempt a swim, you would have to go through lots of weeds to get back on the shore. The dock area overall was very weedy. Obviously, not anyone's fault, but I wonder if these can be trimmed in some way for better swimming? I see that you do not mention swimming as one of the amenities and I assume this is why. You may wish to emphasize the swimming location at Caywood Point as noted above -- again, a short paddle or two minute drive.
5.) Construction: as noted in the listing, there was construction going on to the south of Lolly's (maybe 200 feet from the cottage). We could hear the sound of heavy equipment on and off during the day. Though it was not particularly loud, would be great if I didn't have to hear it at all. Again, there may be nothing you can do about it, but I am noting it. This is why I gave location and "neighborhood" four instead of five stars.
But overall, we couldn't get enough of the view, the cottage was lovely, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful Scenery, but very cabin like
My family overall enjoyed our stay at Lolly's cottage. We picked this place because it is right on the water and very private --so it was great during the pandemic. We loved the kayaks and the dock and the fact that the house had enough beds and bedrooms for everyone. It was also very nicely decorated. When we all walked in we thought it was super cute!! However, there were a bunch of things which put a damper on the trip, some of which were very easy to fix.
One, the cottage only came with just the BASICS. When we first walked in there was no paper towel. I had to search for it under a cabinet, and most likely it was already used. Two, the cottage has only lake water. No where did it state that we should bring our own bottled water. This was definitely an inconvenience because we brought a lot of food to make meals and had to run to store to buy extra filtered water.
Three, the kitchen literally had just the basics, did not even come with a sponge or dishtowels to dry the dishes!! I had to wash all my dishes with my hands the soap they provided and use the washcloths for bathing to dry them!! They did provide some sort of cleaning tool for cups but it was falling apart so I chose not to use it.
Another problem with the kitchen was the dishware. They had some old speckled metal dishware that was not microwavable. This was another inconvenience because I needed to reheat my coffee by pouring it into a glass bowl and then re-pouring it back into my metal mug.
Furthermore, there were about 20 MILLIPEDES in the house. And they were quite large. We constantly had to kill them.
And lastly, we had to park the car and walk down quite a bit of stairs when we arrived which was not so easy with all of our luggage. It was doable, but not convenient.
All in all we really enjoyed our family time and swimming in the water and using the kayaks. However, I cannot recommend this place. I feel that the owners or managers of Lolly's cottage need to take a bit more time to make this cottage user friendly. Adding dishtowels, fresh paper towels, and fixing up the place a bit so that bugs aren't crawling in constantly would help improve Lolly's cottage. It sure does have great potential.
I was initially concerned based on earlier reviews but those issues have been addressed. There is now a dock ladder, screens for the windows and very few bugs. Love the house, love the dock, amazing view and great place to chill, fish, kayak and sample the wineries/breweries. Highly recommend.
Lolly's Cottage was rustic and beautiful. Was absolutely perfect for our memorial day weekend getaway. It was unseasonably chilly while we were there but there were multiple heaters available for each room. Sunsets were gorgeous and morning coffee out on the private dock was incredibly serene. We rolled into Caywood vineyards (which is literally up the road from the cottage) an hour before check in and had an incredible wine tasting and a glass of champagne. Beds were comfortable, and the cottage was just very lovely overall.
Important to note there isn't a stove, just an electric range (and grill outside). Also a bit of a windy dirt road to get down to the cottage itself. We also brought our own water for cooking / drinking but used the water there for dishes, showering etc. Just a personal taste thing, the woman from Finger Lake's rental informed me the water was potable. If you and your party know what you're in for, I think it's one of the best places to stay in the finger lakes. Very much plan on going back.
If social distancing is what you’re looking for this is it.

We enjoyed our stay at Lolly Cottage for the most part. The cottage was clean and the beds were comfortable. The front porch and dock were the highlights. There was no indication on VRBO site that we needed to bring bottled water to drink so that was unfortunate.Water pressure was not significant enough to shower and wash your hair.We called the maintenance people and the water filter was changed which improved the flow temporarily but then went back to a trickle.Would not rent again.
While the cottage had a beautiful lake front, the rest of the cottage was very disappointing. While clean when we arrived the Bugs and millipedes were all over the cottage. The cottage was missing most of the screens to the windows, there was zero airflow and the weather being in the 90's the whole week made the stay almost unbearable. Several other items renters should be aware of . . No Oven, were told not to use the fire pit so no outdoor fires, no television and the driveway was basically a cliff and dangerous - the stairs going down to the property were uneven and dangerous. We made the best of it but will be more diligent if we ever book with Home Away again.
This is the perfect place to relax and slow down. We loved it and absolutely recommend it!

Girls Weekend Getaway
Lovely area and beautiful view of the lake. Would have liked to have known the road leading down to the house and steep stairs were much more complicated than indicated on the listing. The house also was supposedly cleaned right before we arrived but walked into multiple dead bugs around the house. A dirty rag and broom had been left on the porch. Lastly reaching out to the property listers was not the most convenient as we needed to call 6 or 7 times to get the code for the lock box which took longer than expected.
All in all we had a lovely time but would have appreciated more cleanliness and information about the surrounding property.

Just the necessities
If you are looking for a cabin like experience this is the property for you.
But If you are looking for luxury this is not the place for you.
We loved our stay. The property is in the woods behind a vineyard with your own private dock. Beautiful views, lots of things to do (kayaks, swimming if you are so inclined, exploring wine country, hiking). The house is clean with a rustic appeal, tons of natural light, nice kitchen and basic amenities. We plan on returning.
Our only issue was that we had a bee and wasp problem which was likely a seasonal thing. Somehow they were finding their way into the house. Fingerlakes was very responsive, calling us daily to keep tabs on the situation.
If you need a relaxing and beautiful getaway this is your place.
My husband and I rented Lolly's Cottage for our 1 year wedding anniversary and I am so happy that we did. We needed a getaway where we could just go and relax, away from the stress of work and daily routine. Lolly's Cottage is perfect for that.
The lake views are incredible from the porch and the dock. You drive thru a vineyard to get to the house, and then down a tight little road to your parking spot, which seems intimidating at first but it is not that bad once you get used to it. There is no tv, which I guess I did not realize when I booked the cottage, but for us, that was not a problem at all. There is a radio and such beautiful views of the lake that no tv was needed. If you want to go out on the water, there are kayaks and floats provided. We mostly sat on the dock or in the house and enjoyed each other's company. The house itself is adorable. Perfectly decorated and located in the most peaceful location. We could have easily just stayed at home the entire time, but there are several wineries and breweries located very close by and Watkins Glen is about 20 minutes away. So we went out and enjoyed the area.
This was the most refreshing and relaxing vacation we have been on and we will definitely go back in the future. If you need to get away and relax, love the lake and the peacefulness that comes with it, this is definitely the place for you. I have already had a few friends who saw my pics ask for info on booking for their future vacations.
