About this property
Hope House on Rhode Island's South Shore sits on 6 private acres
This very private, comfortable, serene estate is walking distance to beach and within 2mi. of town.
Our home is near the sea and surrounded by meadows and stone walls. It is very private retreat - the deer, songbirds and crashing waves are your closest neighbors. You can walk to the beach. The house has been completely renovated with repurposed wood, expansive views and an open floorpplan. We are less than two miles from the town center of Little Compton and about 1.3 mi. to the Nature Conservancy's glorious Goosewing Beach. We are walking distance to two fantastic farm stands: Wishingstone Farm and Sweet and Salty Farms . Enter through the blue barn doors into the downstairs living room with a stone fireplace, chairs and a fold out full futon, This room also has a huge closet behind a sliding barn door filled with extra towels and blankets. This main floor has 3 bedrooms and two full baths. ( one bath has a 6 ft. antique claw foot tub and heated floors) Washer and dryer are on this floor along with a second refrigerator . The closet in the laundry room holds cleaning supplies and first aid needs. Climb the stairs to the second floor. You may notice that all of the building material is reclaimed locally. (We attempted to add patina to new constructionbut are certified free of lead paint) The tall ceilings are covered in reclaimed barn wood. The beams and upper floor stone fire place mantel and all the trim were salvaged from a historic Fall River textile mill. The woodburning fireplace works well and we supply wood for you first nights fire. On this floor is the kitchen, dining area, second living room and master queen suite with attached full bathroom. The large dining room table can accommodate all guests. This large second floor room boasts a broad expanse of sunny south east facing windows which capture the sunrises and hold midday heat even in the coolest of months. The house is "an upside down house" with the kitchen and main living room on this second floor to capture the view of the meadows. The left hand side of the library shelf offers many books to peruse... The master suite has a queen bed and full bath with heated floor. A loft ladder behind the fireplace takes you to the upper loft which has two twin beds, a television, a telescope and distant views of the ocean. Or come outside to indulge in the peaceful rhythm of the south shore.... On the second floor we have a large outdoor porch where there is an expandable cedar dining table that can accommodate everyone along with a gas grill and more seating. An outdoor sectional sofa is the perfect place to sip coffee and watch the sunrise to the east or to enjoy an evening beverage while watching the sunset to the west all the while listening to the waves.... Life outside can also be enjoyed walking the trails cut through our 6 acres of meadow. We have a circular stone campfire area with outdoor seating off of the south east corner of the house. After a long day outside one can also wash off in the large outdoor shower . (In the late afternoon if the sun is just right it heats up the shampoo and shower gel on the shelf) Then hang your towel on the outside line to dry and relax in the hammock! This home is an extremely comfortable, serene, private retreat and a beautiful place to build family memories, escape the city to work remotely or read some books.....

Ample kitchen, responsive host, quiet location good for walks and access to amenities, great fireplace and seating areas for eating and gathering. Loft OK for one spry adult.
This was the perfect spot for plant enthusiasts to escape the ferver of their home gardens and enjoy the serenity, serendipity and spectacle of Sakonnet Garden. This well appointed and comfortable home was everything we needed—sprawling vistas, birds and stars.
Host was so generous and responsive!
My friends and I like to spend time talking and catching up which made this place perfect for us. We spent most days cooking, walking on the beach and talking into the night. We drove to Newport and Bristol for touristy activities which also made this place perfect. It is secluded and still within 30-40 minutes from the heart of Newport. I highly recommend this property.
The house has been lovingly redone with reclaimed materials that gives it incredible character. The area is incredibly peaceful and serene with lovely outdoor deck and a fire pit and hammock. Well kept and clean rooms. Only thing to keep in mind is that getting to and from
The beach is a trek. We did not mind it since that was not our goal!
We had a wonderful time at the home. It was large enough to fit my family of four while we entertained some friends in the area. The highlight was seeing some deer out the window on Christmas morning. The only warning I would give is that one of the bedrooms is only accessible by a ladder. Just in case you have someone in your party that has mobility issues. Overall, would definitely book again.
The house is beautiful and specious. We are a family of 8 including 2 toddler grandchildren and it was a great home in which to spend a week. The upstairs kitchen, dining area and living room is one continuous room and was warm and nicely fit our needs. Off the kitchen/dining area there is a wonderful deck. The grounds are beautiful and surrounded by protected land. We were visited almost daily by a several deer.
Little Compton is quite beautiful, surrounded by beaches, farms and farm markets and pretty preserves for nice walks. We even played tennis on the 2 town courts. It is both beautiful and very quiet - which was great for us. Our family loved the area.
If I could give more than 5 stars I would.
Starting with the host, Avila was incredibly responsive, hospitable, and kind. She was always there to address any questions and was accommodating when it came to a last minute addition of two dogs. She clearly communicated check in and check out instructions, and even gave us a list of some local spots to check out.
Upon arrival we were greeted with a hand written note, a bottle of wine, and a binder with all of the information any guest could ask for. What a nice touch.
After reading the included history of the property and home with a glass of wine in hand, we explored the rest of the home and property.
This was the first VRBO experience I have had that truly felt like a breath of fresh air. The grounds are serene and peaceful, and the landscaping and natural growth of trees and shrubbery hides any hint of neighboring homes. The home itself is incredibly well thought out, and every single room has a cozy feeling where one can enjoy the company of others, or just take in the artifacts, art, and accoutrement that adorn every inch of the home.
I would be more than happy to rent from Avila year after year, and would recommend this home to anyone looking for a tranquil getaway in an inspired home.
I cannot say enough good things about this rental! Our group of 3 couples, 3 singles, and a baby (plus two dogs and a mother-in-law hired for last minute babysitting) had a WONDERFUL time here while visiting the area for a friend's wedding. The location is idyllic and peaceful, the house is truly a unique and beautiful homage to reclaimed materials, and the views are breathtaking. The kitchen was well appointed and the host left us some special treats to welcome us. Beds were comfortable and our only minor comment would be that the place could use a good dusting! But, this is to be expected with such high ceilings and large open living spaces.
The host, Brent and his daughter Avila were incredibly accommodating, letting us check in early to get ready for the rehearsal dinner, and check out late after the post-wedding brunch.
The deer are a delight to wake up to in the morning while you enjoy a coffee on the deck. A walk around the beautifully managed and maintained meadows is only rivaled by a shower in the outdoor shower under a blue sky! The beach is a short walk away and it was great fun to watch the surfers enjoy the waves brought in by a recent tropical storm.
We will certainly be returning to this gem of a property. Thank you so much for a fantastic weekend!
We brought 7 friends together for a weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Beautiful surroundings, you really feel you are away and embedded in nature. Avila is very thoughtful and replies almost immediately. We are very grateful to her.
My family spent a long weekend here to celebrate my mother's birthday. Beautiful, spacious home. Perfect layout to comfortably accommodate our group of 7. Beautiful views of the yard through the windows and plenty of privacy. We had a wonderful trip. Highly recommend.
Just what the doctor ordered - a change of scenery, a family gathering, and lots of outdoor beauty. This barn house in Little Compton was the perfect host to our vacation - spacious and comfortable with lots of character. Loved playing petanque, hunting for Easter eggs, spotting coy-wolf and deer. Took a sweet little hike through Wilbour Woods, had breakfast at Groudswell, and spent day in Newport. Definitely recommend!
My husband, adult children and my mother celebrated Christmas in this very spacious, comfortable and well appointed home. The kitchen has everything you need! Our communication with the owner was easy and she had many great suggestions, (do not miss an opportunity to get lobster at Sakonnet Lobster.) The property is private, beautiful and a short walk to the beach which was a big hit with our grand dog! This is a great house for a special family gathering.
This is a terrific house in a great location, with wonderful views and quiet surroundings. Everything in the house worked as advertised, and there are two functional fireplaces, with enough firewood provided for all our needs. When we arrived, we noticed that the hammock had been taken down for the season, but the hammock stand was still outside. When I mentioned this to our hosts, they let me know that it had fallen apart and they were going to replace it, and promptly ordered one to be delivered during our stay! Great responsiveness, flexibility on check-in and check-out times. Would highly recommend this host and property!
We truly enjoyed our time in Little Compton. It was just what we needed. The perfect escape from NYC. The area is peaceful & beautiful. Avila was very easy to reach & easy to talk to. We had one minor snafu in the beginning but it was quickly rectified & we went on to enjoy our stay. My girlfriends & I had a lovely stay filled with lots of eating, laughing, drinking & some serious Jenga matches!
This amazing home has rustic charm, is well kept and is updated with modern conveniences. The large family room has a beautiful fireplace. One of the small sofas, however, is in need of replacement. The beds are comfortable. The host was attentive and gracious.
