My son and I stayed with Bill and Paula and it was amazing. If you want to experience remote versus resort, this is where you go! I felt lucky being there and learning about village life and Bill and Paula's family, which touched my heart. It was extremely special in so many ways. Hearing the nightly village bell and drums calling villagers to church, eating fresh food prepared by Paula from the garden and trees, sunset hand line fishing with Bill, snorkeling with the sharks, walking down the beach to sand bar at low tide, and walking through the village. I dont know if will be ever be on that side of the world again, but if i ever was in the area again, I honestly would stop by and say hello. I miss Bill and Paula! It was a tearful goodbye!

This home stay is one of the highlights of our trip. Bill and Paula’s family is one of the kindest, happiest families we have ever met. The food is OUTSTANDING and Paula made sure I didn’t have any issues with my food allergies. The accommodations are rustic, but clean and comfortable. The only issue I had was at night the fan stops working, because it is on solar. If you brought a small, portable fan on batteries you would be fine. My partner is a camper and he was fine with the accommodations. I am a nice hotel kinda gal and was still comfortable overall. The shower works and the toilet is nice. The beds are ok. Bring bug spray. Be aware, it is an island with no WiFi except at the house above where you dine. I brought a book and was happy. We also went to church with Bill and Paula. It was a wonderful experience. They shared their clothes with us so we could dress appropriately. The reef just off the beach is okay. The snorkeling further out is so beautiful. The waters were clear 35-40 feet down. Lots of hard, ancient corals that have not been bleached yet. It was a treat. We came to see waters and life like it used to be in the Cayman Islands 40 years ago. We were not disappointed. Paula caught a fish on our way back to the main island and gave it to us. The chef made a meal everyone could share, staff and guests alike. It was such a beautiful way to end that part of our vacation. Ask Bill about the package that includes transportation and snorkeling!

Amazing Fiji experience

We had the best time staying with Bill and Polla and their family. Bill was great at communicating before we arrived and we arranged transfer with him to and from our stay. Pollas food was delicious, portions were very generous and such a big variety of meals! The island is so beautiful and staying with Bill and Polla is a great way to experience the real Fiji. The snorkling with sharks experience was incredible. Their son was home for the long weekend and took us out for the sunset fishinng trip and along to the sand bar. Make sure to read Bills description as this is a real Fiji experience and not for everyone but we would recommend to anyone that wants to see more than the resorts. Thank you Bill and Polla for being so welcoming and kind and opening your home up to us.

Unique and incredible, remote, off-grid island experience

We had an incredible, once in a lifetime experience staying with Bill and Polla. They are both warm, welcoming and helpful hosts, sharing information and stories about village life and culture and local farming. The accommodations are rustic, but clean and totally functional. The views and area is just stunning and the the off-grid, very limited cell reception meant a true disconnecting and relaxing vibe.Polla made all our meals from scratch using mainly locally sourced or grown fruits, vegetables, etc. Everything was delicious! One day Bill went our fishing and brought back an assortment of fish that Polla then cooked up in a few different ways and served with the most delicious, homemade coconut milk sauce. The weather was not totally on our side, so between low tide, rain or high winds and surf, made it difficult to get out swimming/snorkelling or going on boat excursion. We did make it out swimming with sharks - really amazing! It meant we had lots of time for reading, journalling, card playing or just taking in the views. We did not see another tourist the whole time we were there. Recommend being prepared with bringing a headlamp or flashlight, mosquito repellant, water shoes or old runners, bottled drinking water or a filter (we brought lifestraw water bottles) and helpful to have a few snacks (like bars) in case you get hungry between meals or while out on excursions. Meals were abundant!Thank you Bill & Polla for a beautiful experience!

Beach front getaway

Fijian island living with daily fresh fish and vegetables from the family's plantation, home cooked bread, and seasonal fruit. House on the beach front and lots of activities available to book. We (myself abd three children ages 11,13,16) had a wonderful time, hiking up the volcanic landscape behind the house, snorkelling on the reef, and chilling in the hammock. Visiting the limestone caves was a highlight, albeit 2-3hr boat ride north. The sand spit between the islands was a fun place to play in the surf. Bill, Paula and their children Jim and Sara were lovely hosts. Recommend bringing insect repellent, mosquito coils, head torch if don't want to turn lights on at night in the single room; sunscreen, sunhats, first aid kit, water purifying tablets and/or water filter; water shoes for walking on the rocks at low tide; snacks if you want to eat between the delicious meals. All the usual island essentials! WiFi inconsistent and cellphone reception only at top of hill - perfect for a technology break! ,

Relaxing, off grid family time

Myself, husband and children ages 12, 9 and 7 stayed for 6 nights. The beachfront accommodation was spacious and had enough room for the five of us to sleep and hang out. Visiting in January meant the temps and humidity were very high. There was 1 fan in the room and it was a lifesaver. The outdoor shower was refreshing. Bill took us on 3 excursions and they were excellent. Paula was a great cook and we never left the table hungry. She even made a cake for my son’s 12th birthday! This is a true Fijian village experience. You are isolated on the island with not a ton to do. We brought card games, and spent lots of family time. The sand bridge at low tide was spectacular and we made our way down the beach to it most days at low tide. Bring tons of water, we brought two cases and it was just enough. There is no wifi and no cell signal unless you hike up a hill near by for 10 min. It was a relaxing, life changing week for us and our kids learned a lot about how some Fijian kids live. I would 100% recommend Bill and Paula’s home stay if you are up for down time and an unplugged holiday.

Fijian adventure

We had a wonderful week staying with Bill, Polla, Api, Nani, Sarah, Moses, Dam, Omni and Jim. It truly was a cultural immersion, where we lived like a Fijian villager, but we ate like Fijian kings - thanks to the womens' amazing cooking skills with produce sourced mainly from their backyard and the ocean. The family's local knowledge made our daily adventure trips to several of Fiji's natural treasures even more amazing. There is good coral snorkelling off the beach that is a shell's throw from our accomodation, as well as off the beach behind the school. Trips to Castaway Island, the limestone cave, snorkling with sharks, the walk up the mountain and others were excellent. Visits to the church service and school were delightful. We loved the beating of the traditional drum early in the morning and evening calling families to pray. Some tips if you plan to visit from overseas: - buy a Vodafone sim (Digicel is useless on the island) - bring your own snorkels to ensure a perfect fit - bring hats with good straps under the chin to ensure they stay on during the boat rides - consider bringing stationary items for the local school - bring cards and books for rest times - come with a flexible attitude as you wont have several of your western comforts. We highly recommend this stay for those who are adventurous and outdoor inclined.

Island village escape

What a wonderful experience. Starts with a beautiful open boat ride with your host Bill and Paula from the big island to your homestay. The water is crystal clear. Keep your eyes open for fish and other marine life. Your first view of your cabin is right when the boat comes in to drop you off. Be prepared that you might get a little wet as you wade in from the boat. The cabin is very rustic but spacious and clean. There is all the bedding you need and mosquito nets over most the beds. The shower and toilet is just out the back door in seperate stalls with a light . Bill and Paula very clearly explain meal times, protocol in the 2 villages that are very walkable, what excursion are available and include you in the various village activities. They were great in answering all our questions. Meals were very generous in serving size and much of the food served was harvested from their land or the sea. You eat what they eat ,a very authentic meal experience .You take your meals up the hill to their house out on a open deck. View is beautiful. We enjoyed both the swim with mantas and night fishing. Its shallow right in front of the cabin but you can still snorkle. It is fun to walk through the village sitting out on the mats with the local people. All are so friendly and enjoyable to hear their stories. We had the priviledge of being able to attend one of their celebrations. Hospitality was great. Souvenirs are available which support locals. Hard to leave new friends.

Not to be missed!

Bill and Polla were the perfect hosts. It was all we hoped for and more...a sort of rustic resort. Not for those who need all the luxuries of home. The village community members were so welcoming and accepting of us, an almost-elderly couple who still enjoy having adventures and experiencing ways of life different from our own. We marveled at so many aspects of this homestay, it's impossible to describe the beauty of the people and the stunning setting. We attended Sunday church service, visited the primary school and participated in the 4th birthday party of darling granddaughter Iva. Village life at its best. You will be glad if you share from your abundance: bring used cotton sheets, towels and simple clothing for any age and gender-they will be much appreciated. We brought school supplies (coloured pencils, markers, fun shaped scissors, erasers, story books, small pads of fill-in activity booklets) and presented to the teachers and they were very happy to meet us and grateful for the gifts. The children are charming and happy to meet visitors and practice their English. Chocolate bars for those you meet along the way. Any and all first-aid supplies (bandages, anti-bacterial ointment, over-the-counter pain relief and NSAIDs, compression (Ace) bandages) toothbrushes and paste. DON'T MISS snorkeling with sharks and manta rays! Magical. A rare opportunity to live an entirely different way. Bring books, cards and an open mind. You will be so glad you did!

We absolutely loved our time with Bill and Paula at the homestay. It was such an awesome experience for our family. We were welcomed immediately into the village and we throughly enjoyed village life. Our boys played with the local children and everyone was super friendly. The snorkelling around the island was incredible and the snorkelling with the sharks experience and drift snorkelling in the Manta passage was amazing. Paula's cooking was next level and she ensured we were never hungry, there was plenty of fresh local food prepared for us. Bill shared lots of local information and knowledge around the islands. He communication was great and very helpful. We would have very happily stayed longer than 4 nights that we had. This is an experience that we will hold very fondly for years to come!

Incredible experience

This 3 night stay was by far the highlight of our entire 2 week holiday in Fiji. The accommodation was 5 steps to the ocean, with the most incredible views and sunsets! We travelled with our 6 and 3 year olds and they thoroughly enjoyed their stay too, particularly meeting all the local children! The food was AMAZING! We are vegetarian so did worry, but they accommodated so well for us and we were always very full.My eldest turned 6 during our stay and we were lucky enough to be invited into the village where Paula, bill and all the local villagers celebrated his birthday with a cake and traditional kava ceremony. It was just beautiful. We were also invited to the church with them, which was a lovely experience.I am seriously considering coming back within the next few months!!

Paradise and a taste of Fijian island life

We had a truely wonderful experience with Bill, Polla, their children and their grandchildren. All of them played a part to contribute to a meaningful and authentic time in their island village. The snorkelling straight out from the accommodation was amazing and the day trips that Bill and Ebo took us on were unforgettable. We felt safe on their boat, and had full bellies every mealtime from Polla and Nani’s exceptional cooking skills. We were treated to Fijian fruits and vegetables and lots of freshly caught fish- some of which we caught ourselves!A truely unforgettable off grid and unplugged experience.Vinaka vaka levu

Our 7-day Stay

Bill and Paula were wonderful hosts. Our stay exceeded our expectations. Paula was a wonderful cook and we enjoyed all of her homemade meals. The family and the community of the village were so welcoming, and we loved getting involved in the local culture. The snorkeling off of the island was wonderful, we went out almost 2 or 3 times everyday. We had the pleasure of tagging along to their invitation to the opening ceremony of the kuata island resort, where we witnessed the traditional kava ceremony and proceeding of their clan rituals. We also had a wonderful time doing the snorkeling with sharks excursion, which is a bucket list item! Keep in mind this is a homestay, which is perfect for an outdoor and a nature enthusiast crowd that wishes to immerse themselves in local culture and wildlife. We already miss their hospitality and the island, and hope to bring our friends/family back someday to this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Thank you!!!!

Best Vacation Experience!

This was literally the best vacation I have ever had! Being apart of Bill and Paula's family for a week was an exceptional experience! Bill had all transportation set for us. It’s an extra fee to have him do it but well worth it! Yes the accommodations are very basic but we were very comfortable. Foam mattresses, a private toilet, sink and shower (which is a gravity fed single pipe). The showers are cold water only but it feels good with Fiji always being warm. Whatever excursions you pick, DO NOT miss snorkeling with the sharks! I’m typically very timid about those things but it’s very safe and a once in a lifetime experience! The water is SO clear, it’s truly amazing! We also really enjoyed the sunset fishing. Paula fed us very well! She is a great cook and you will not be hungry! Expect local cuisine like fish, sausages, fruit, ramen, potatoes, eggs and bread. My boys play rugby here in the states and their most favorite part was joining the village kids each night at the school to play rugby in the evenings! Donations to their local team and school are always welcome and encouraged. Please note that the women and men of the village dress modestly so it would be respectful and you will feel more comfortable if you bring shorts that go to the knees and t-shirts with sleeves. Bill and Paula really go so far out of their way to make you feel at home and comfortable. We felt so blessed to meet them and their kids. Shout out to Jim, our fellow rugby fan! Go Fiji Go! Much love!

Thanks Polla and Sarah for their warm hospitality. The house is basic but that is a life experience with local village people which is what i like. It is not a holiday resort. Bill also welcomed me to their family lunch gathering on Sunday. The location is nice and relaxed but i like walked to the sandbar for swimming where is about 15 to 20mins walk.

Bill and Paula, their family and community welcomed my family with generosity, kindness and hard work to make our trip memorable. We felt safe and were treated with respect. Our rooms were clean and comfortable. The food was absolutely amazing! Paula and her daughter Sarah made everything from scratch each day. We dined on traditional foods either farmed from their gardens or gathered from the sea. Bill and his son Jim took us on our amazing adventures, like snorkeling the open waters with sharks and manta rays, taking us to a private island to snorkel the surrounding reef with Sarah preparing us a delicious picnic of local fruits and fish. They made every effort to make the experiences memorable for us! We were extremely fortunate to be invited to a kava ceremony with the elders and we invited to help with a traditional lovo ceremony of roasting meats underground on the beach. Bill and Paula taught us about local weaving. Recommendations: Go with an open mind. You will be off grid with no air conditioning, but living in a traditional home. Bring one more box of water than you think you’ll need. We ran out the last two days and had to ask Paula to boil water for us. Bring kava to share with the village elders as a thank you to joining their village. Buy a little chocolate for their granddaughter. It is a rarity and she loves it. The village is always in need of donated sheets, towels, kitchen towels, underwear (both adult and children) and kitchen cutlery.

Wonderful Wayasewa!

The perfect 'real Fiji' experience off the grid. Not for everyone as there's no airconditioning, running hot water or pools but that's the charm and attraction here. Bill and Paula looked after us wonderfully. Our two small boys were played with and looked after by other local children, the villages were very friendly. Paula also arranged a surprise birthday cake for my oldest son! No other tourists spotted, no-one trying to sell you things or get you to drink kava and no shops. Perfect spot. AAA+
