Larnaca Salt Lake is a scenic area of shallow water where pink flamingoes gather. In summer, walk across the dry, moon-like terrain. The water has a mean depth of about 3.2 feet (1 metre) in winter.
The lake is the famous home of the Hala Sultan Tekke, one of the most important spiritual complexes in Islam.Take a leisurely walk on a hiking trail around the enormous lake, which encompasses 3,920 acres (1,585 hectares) in total. Keep following the scenic path to reach the Islamic complex, which accepts people of all faiths. Look around the mosque, mausoleum and cemetery to get an idea of the historic value of the site. Find the tomb of Muhammad’s foster mother and hear the tale of her death, which allegedly occurred on this very site many centuries ago.
Sit at one of the many picnic tables in the area to enjoy the serene ambiance. Bring enough snacks and drinks for the trip, as there are no shops here. Stay into the evening to see the changing colours of the sky as the sun goes down.

Larnaca Salt Lake is next to the Larnaca International Airport, about 4 miles (6.4 kilometres) south of the city. Rent a car or take a taxi for the 10-minute journey from the centre of Larnaca.
