One of the newest golf centres in Andalusia, La Estancia Golf is a welcoming club with an impressive course. Spread out over 200 acres (80 hectares), it takes advantage of the stunning natural landscape to create a unique course that truly respects the protected areas dotting the course. Tuck a camera into your golf bag and head out onto the grass to feel a connection with the natural world.
Note that the wind blows east or west depending on the day’s weather. Walk leisurely from hole to hole or rent an electric cart. While navigating around the tricky lakes and streams that add interest to the course, watch for some of the 25 species of birds that live here. Peer into the wooded areas and spot the bright feathers of the area’s most famous residents.
Though the course is perfectly manicured, appreciate the sense of wildness on the edges that bring a taste of Spanish nature to this Scottish sport’s ground. Walk the short distance from the 18th hole to the clubhouse, whose form echoes traditional regional architecture. Admire how the shapes and colours are similar to those found in the surrounding hillsides.
On a cold day, warm up with a cup of coffee by the roaring fire. On warm days, which are much more common, relax instead on the terrace with sweeping views over the course and the natural world that surrounds it.
Drive to La Estancia Golf in 20 minutes from downtown Chiclana de la Frontera. The closest beach is at La Barrosa, 2.5 miles (4 kilometres) away from the clubhouse. Drive from the closest airport in Jerez in 50 minutes or from Seville, the closest international airport, in over an hour and a half. Accessing the course via public transportation is difficult, so renting a car is easiest. Taxis are also available from Chiclana de la Frontera. On-site parking is available.
The course is open daily from morning to evening. The restaurant is open when the course is open.
