Meander across the wide-open space and enjoy the old-world atmosphere. The Church of Santo Stefano is one of the most iconic buildings in the city. This structure, made from marble and sandstone, has an intricately painted wooden ceiling. Admire the trophy banners on display that were captured from Saracen pirates.
See where the knights of Pisa resided in the imposing Palazzo della Carovona. The façade of this building has a series of carved statues, as well as sculptures of the city’s coat of arms and monuments to renowned Pisans. Located in central Pisa, Piazza dei Cavalieri is easily accessible on foot. The walk there is an enjoyable stroll along some of Pisa’s prettiest streets. Bus services also frequent the area. If arriving by car, there is some metered street parking just outside the centre of the old town. To find the best cafés, follow a local down one of the streets that lead away from the square.
