Rathmhor - lovingly restored traditional stone house in Cairngorms National Park

Rathmhor is a traditional stone and slate house in Lynchat, two miles north-east of the town of Kingussie in the Cairngorms National Park. The house sleeps up to 8 people in 4 bedrooms.

Ground floor: fully-fitted kitchen with electric range cooker, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washing machine; dining room seating eight; shower-room; front and rear porches; tumble-drier in cupboard under stairs; large twin bedroom 1. First floor: sitting room seating eight with wood-burning stove and 43" HD TV with Amazon Fire stick; king-size bedroom 2 with en-suite shower-room; small twin bedroom 3; king-size bedroom 4; family bathroom. Free unlimited wi-fi.

Large walled garden; courtyard with parking for up to four cars and electric vehicle chargepoint. Beautiful views south across Strathspey to the Glen Feshie hills beyond. And for rail enthusiasts, the Highland Main Line runs only one field away, so you can watch trains go by from the front windows!

Rathmhor was extensively repaired and upgraded in 2017. This work included the installation of a ground source heat pump, so Rathmhor is lovely and warm all year round, even when the outside temperature falls below -10ºC, as it often does in the Cairngorms winter. Rathmhor uses 100% renewable electricity.

Loved this place
We loved staying at this home. It was clean and comfortable. We loved watching the sheep across the road and the bunnies in the morning. The location was great for where we were hiking. We cooked most of our meals there and had everything we needed.

Amazing Property/Central Location
We absolutely loved our stay at the property. It's beautiful and clean and perfectly spacious for our group of 5. We even had an extra bedroom! The kitchen is awesome and we cooked breakfasts and one dinner there. The countryside is beautiful and peaceful and we had a couple hours drive in either direction to some great places to sight-see in Scotland. I hope to return!

Excellent location, lovely accommodation
The house is beautiful inside and very well kitted out. Although right on a (minor) road and quite near the A9, there is very little traffic noise. It's a little way north of Kingussie, but easy to get on the A9, so Aviemore etc are very accessible, and also Laggan/Spean Bridge. The access to the courtyard at the back of the house is a little tight for a large car, but there is good parking on the road in front. The accommodation is lovely. It's a bit different having a sitting room upstairs, but that works well. The bedrooms are all lovely, although the fourth a little small for two squabbling children. Very good wifi. Heating very good (lovely log burner upstairs). Plenty around to see and do.

Great staycation
7 of us ( 4 adults & 3 teenagers) had a fantastic week in this lovely house which exceeded expectations. The photos don’t do it justice. The house is beautifully finished and very well equipped with everything we needed for our week’s holiday. We found lots to do in the area and particularly enjoyed zip lining and water sports at Loch Insh. Lots of eating options in Aviemore and definitely recommend the fab cakes at the coffee shop in Kincraig.

Top class accommodation and location
Stayed for a week with husband and 4 year old daughter. Cottage was very clean and well equipped. Very spacious for our needs and liked the rustic, modern decor. Great communication from owners and a thumbs up for the quick WiFi connection. Location was very peaceful, looking across to field of sheep and hills in the background. We walked down lane at back of cottage most days to see hens in neighbours garden and cows and calves at farm. 5 minutes to Wildlife Park, beautiful loch with water sports nearby and short drive to Aviemore where there are lots of restaurants and outdoor activities. Would definitely recommend!

Wonderful relaxing stay
The property was accurately described and exceeded our expectations. It was immaculately clean with comfortable décor and amenities. The instructions for appliances were well explained. Views from the property helps instill a sense of wellbeing and the weather permitted relaxation in the garden. The property is 10 minutes drive to the village where there is a Co-Op and restaurants. 10 minutes drive in the other direction takes you to the Wildlife Park which out children really enjoyed. There is also a watersports park about 20 minutes away. 35 minutes drive towards FW we found a 4x4 and quadbike tour through one of the estates. Mountain Biking is available 45 minutes away at WolfTraxx and at FW at Ben Nevis resort. The Wifi at the property was fast and allowed our children to continue their online summer schools. If we returned to the area, we would stay at this property again, it was excellent value and we appreciate the effort, care and hard work the owners have put into creating a wonderful holiday property.

Stay in Lynchat with Family from USA,Kenya and India.
We were on a family break from different parts of the world. Rathmhor provided us the perfect reunion opportunity. The house was superb with comfy beds to abundant supply of utensils in kitchen. We did not want to leave the place. I am sure we will be back. I have been recommending your house to many so you will get more people visiting you. I am so thankful Rachael and John for giving this beautiful home and experience of living in countryside.

Home in the Highlands
Beautiful, historical cottage in a great setting that provides easy access to the ScotRail system, if you are not inclined to drive. Spacious accommodation with a working stove in the second floor living room to ward off the cold, Highland nights. Plenty of wildlife, ancient buildings, and sights to take in, all within easy reach of the property. Owners were friendly, accessible, and always willing to provide answers, advice, and assistance for every situation we encountered. This was amongst the best holiday experiences we've had.
