Located adjacent to Perth’s central business district, the Kings Park is a 400-hectare space with huge majestic trees, large areas of native scrubland and home to the magnificent State Botanical Gardens. This is the perfect spot for a walk and to enjoy a picnic or a barbecue. There are plenty of attractions to keep children amused, as well as some cosy cafés, a souvenir shop, large areas designated for barbecues, and the State War Memorial. The State Botanic Gardens themselves occupy a 12-hectare area, and are a veritable treasure trove brimming over with beautiful flowers, trees and shrubbery, with wildflowers from all over the world represented. One particularly notable resident of the botanic gardens is the large 750-year-old boab tree. For spectacular views across the park, climb the 101 steps of the DNA Tower. This 15-metre tower with its distinctive shape resembles a DNA molecule, representing the development of life.Children won’t get the opportunity to be bored here, as there is plenty of space for kids to run around and play. The botanic gardens also have activities aimed at children to ensure that they enjoy their visit. Families with children under the age of six should visit the Lotterywest Family Area, which has been specially designed with them in mind.Enjoy a ramble along one of the plentiful nature trails and take in the breath-taking natural landscape of Western Australia. Restaurants and shops are also dotted around the area.Kings Park and Botanic Garden is located just 1.6 kilometres from central Perth. The public park is open 24 hours a day, though some facilities close at nightfall.

Hop on off bus will take you there, otherwise get your joggers on or hire a car. I think buses get you close. Night sightseeing from lookout is spectacular. Art gallery up there too, but I wasn’t there in hours to enjoy it.

Definitely not to be missed! The boulevard of gum trees at the entrance; the monuments to our war heroes; statues of past president; numerous wonderful flora, skywalk and exceptional city and river views
