Friendly staff, clean, Large rooms.
Nice aria, quiet, apart from passing trains, in the back.
Fantastic Breakfast
I would like to go back there, sometime.
Very nice hotel on historic ground in a romantic environment. Unfortunately they do most of their business on weekends, and we were there on a tuesday. The restaurant is closed mondays and tuesdays. In the local village of Karlstejn everything except one Taverna keeps normal business hours, and so closed at 17.00. The hotel staff were bored, lonely, friendly, talkative, and very service-minded. Probably a very nice place to visit on any day except monday and tuesday...
Great time - very pretty location. We enjoyed wine while sitting on the huge patio overlooking the lake. Excellent dinner and full breakfast. I wish we had stayed more than one night.

Ok, but very expensive for local standarts.
Three star + hotel. Definately, would choose other cheaper one now. There is many cheaper ***+ hotels nearby.
This hotel was very nice. It was a little hard to find since the last turn in isn't clearly marked but once we found it, we drove up to the gate (so cute) and before getting to the hotel there were sheep, donkeys and pigs in little stalls. Once at the hotel it was very nice. Our room was HUGE! Also the bathroom was great! We went for New Years Eve and my husband and I read on the site that the hotel was located 19K outside of Prague so we thought we'd drive about 20 minutes at most but it's much farther than that. We had to cut our night out short just so we still had the energy to drive that far. The hotel restaurant was okay, nothing to special. Complimentary breakfast was great! I definitely recommend this hotel if you are trying to stay in a beautiful place outside of the city!
This hotel would probably be best for travelers with their own vehicle. For those coming by train, the hotel is about a 10 minute walk (for two active adults) from the train station along the river, not actually towards the village of Karlstejn. From the hotel, walking into the village takes probably about 25-30 minutes, but it is a lovely walk.
The hotel itself was lovely, with beautiful rooms. Ours had a view over the river. The slight seclusion described above did add to the feeling of romance. Be advised that the sauna facilities listed on this site are not included in the room, and the receptionist told us that access to the "wellness center" was the equivalent of $100/hour. The hotel was great even without it.
The breakfast, which was included, was pretty spectacular- not the typical buffet, but an actual menu. We had fresh fruit salad, beautifully presented, fresh bread, eggs made to order, and crepes with jam, along with fruit juice, coffee, and tea.
As for Karlstejn itself, if you're interested in visiting in the off season it's helpful to know that most shops and dining options are closed, and the castle is only open weekends.
The Hotel was good but hard to find and a little far from the castle. The front desk warned us that it may take a while to get to the castle but did not tell us that it was because the area around the castle seems to be pedestrian only (although lots of cars - police tried to book us - obviously only local cars alowed) It would be nice if they suggested an alternative - e.g. a taxi, park in the lower park and catch a horse drawn cart etc rather than let us miss our prebooked tour. I guess it wasn't the hotels fault but I like a hotel that is proactive in helping you have an enjoyable stay.
