With a themed toy train and many colourful fairy-tale characters tomeet, including Pippi Longstocking and the Brothers Lionheart, a visit toJunibacken is a great family day out. The museum revolves around charactersfrom Swedish storybooks and is ideal for children.

Begin your day at Storybook Square where you’ll be introduced to some ofthe most loved characters at the museum. Visit Alfie Atkins’ house or cook somesnacks with the Moomins. Walk through the Junibacken Gallery to seeillustrations by Bjorn Bjerg, Ingrid Vang Nyman and Ilon Wikland, some of themost iconic illustrators of Swedish children’s books. See images from Pippi Longstockingand other Astrid Lindgren stories brought to life.

Grab a seat on the Storybook Train and you’ll be whisked through some ofLindgren’s fantastical worlds. Move beneath a starry star, through a deep, darkforest and into a dragon’s lair to see the Lionheart Brothers. The tourfeatures commentary in 12 languages, including English and Swedish. The ride isaimed at children but adults must accompany anybody under 15. Disembark thetrain in Villa Villekulla, the home of Pippi Longstocking. Kids will loveplaying on slides, painting a picture or dressing up in costumes before riding amodel horse.

Watch a show at the Children’s Theatre. With over 1,500 shows stagedeach year there’s sure to be something to your taste during your visit. Schedulescan be seen on the museum’s website. Head to the store nearby to buy books,clothes and toys.

After a long day of play stop by the museum’s restaurant. Enjoy organicteas and coffee, or sit down for a stack of pancakes. The views of NybrovikenBay are stunning and are a great photo opportunity.

Junibacken is located on Djurgården and is close to many other majorattractions. Park in the pay-and-display parking outside or take a bus or tramto reach the island. Those wanting to stretch their legs can reach the museumon foot in half an hour from the city centre. Junibacken is open daily fromJune to August but closed on Mondays for the remainder of the year. Anadmission fee applies.
