I was a little nervous after reading other reviews but this hotel was exactly what we needed. It was clean, safe and budget friendly! The room was exactly as pictured and actually the mini fridge was bigger than expected. Staff was friendly and the room was comfortable. There was absolutely no need to worry. It's not a Marriott or Hilton, but it also doesn't come with the prices of a Marriott or Hilton! I would absolutely stay there again!

We stayed two nights in John Day, first night we stayed at Best Western. Big mistake it cost us $$$ more and we had issues; couldn't get hooked up to the internet, the coffee maker in the room didn't work, and the shower was more like a sand blaster than a shower. I didn't need any soap, due to loosing a layer of skin! Save yourself $$$ and a big hassle and stay at the Sunset... You can buy a pretty nice breakfast for $$$ you will save.

My husband and I didn't know what to expect in John Day, and we were pleased to discover this reasonably-priced hotel. The pet fee was reasonable at $15, and the room was clean and spacious with a couch & coffee table, and a Keurig coffee machine! Very convenient location and a good restaurant was right across the street, The Squeeze-In. Most others were closed due to end of summer season & lack of staffing. We were only passing through but would return in the future. Perplexed why we received several emails from either the hotel or Expedia; we replied and are awaiting responses. Very nice people in the office. Fascinating area of Oregon we never knew about!

Scary place on the outside

This place looked run down and scary. However the room was updated and relatively nice. The carpet was dirty - I wore shoes. The bathroom was large and clean and the mirror was nice, but the bathtub had several knicks around the rim - not sure what caused them. The bed was decent and the TV was large and there was a fridge and a microwave and a Keurig. They are clearly making an effort to improve the place.
