Lake Bunyonyi Rock Resort

Lake Bunyonyi Rock Resort

10/10 Excellent
"The location is fabulous. The staff was super nice and attentive. The grounds very nice. We happened to stay there during low season and, understandably, the restaurant was not super well-stocked. Also, the road there (we did self-driving) is quite difficult and it's easy to get lost. That said, we enjoyed our stay here immensely"

The best area to stay on Itambira Island is along the northern and eastern shores, as these areas offer the most convenient access to the island's main attractions and views. The northern shore, particularly around the main landing area, is where you'll find the primary accommodations and facilities. This part of the island is relatively flat and provides direct access to the lake for activities. It's also where the main lodge and dining areas are typically situated, making it a central point for all island activities. For couples seeking a private and comfortable getaway, the eastern shore presents an excellent option. This area often features secluded cottages or villas, some with their own small jetties or private lake access. The slightly elevated positions here offer expansive views of the lake and the surrounding mainland, great for enjoying sunrises or quiet evenings.
When is the best time to go to Itambira Island?
The best time to visit Itambira Island is during the dry seasons, which run from December to February and again from June to August.During these months, you'll experience less rainfall, making it ideal for enjoying the island's outdoor activities. The lake waters are typically calmer, superb for boat trips and swimming, and the walking trails are easier to navigate. This period is particularly good for those looking to relax by the lake or explore the island's natural beauty without the interruption of heavy showers. For travellers interested in birdwatching, the dry seasons offer excellent opportunities to spot a wide variety of species. The drier conditions mean birds are often more active and visible, making for a rewarding experience. It's also a more comfortable time for guided walks, as the paths are less muddy. While the shoulder seasons (March-May and September-November) can offer some good days and potentially lower prices, there's a higher chance of rain.
