400-Year-Old Stone House In Lovely Medieval Market Village - Dordogne SW France
If you're looking to experience life in a French village, this is where you want to be. Named the best French village for foodies by National Geographic (2022), Issigeac is a market lover's dream. The village is home to a FANTASTIC weekly market on Sunday mornings (so it's highly recommended you start your rental on a Saturday). Just steps from our front door, you can get pretty much whatever you want to eat or drink. The market spills out from the central village square into the winding streets with fruit & vegetable stands, stalls that specialize in cheese, roast chicken, fish, oysters, olives, foie gras, crèpes, paella, sausages...
The village has a full range of shops (bakery, groceries, organic food, butcher, wine, magazines), as well as cafes, restaurants, hair salon/spa, yoga studio, children's playground and artists' studios.
Our house is located in the Dordogne department of southwestern France, with the nearest airport and train station (in Bergerac) are just 15 minutes away.
The house is renovated but still simple. On the ground floor, the eat-in kitchen is surrounded by warm exposed stone walls, with exposed oak beams on the ceiling. On the middle floor, there are 3 bedrooms: (two with double beds, and one with bunk beds). The entire top floor is a sitting area/lounge with a double sofa bed and single day bed.
Outdoors, relax in our grassy courtyard garden - a rarity in such a village.
We are open to having as many as 8 people, but we recommend no more than four adults, as there is only one bathroom.
Please contact us for a 20% discount if you stay 2 or more weeks.

Lovely stay in stunning medieval village which is still vibrant today.
Within easy reach of plenty of other villages, towns, lakes, rivers, castles, etc.
A great spot from which to explore, with the bouse having all we needed. house
We had a lovely 28 day stay. Issigeac is such a charming village. With two Michelin guide restaurants only 500 meters away, a fabulous butcher shop and bakery, outstanding Sunday market, and friendly and gracious people you cannot help but love the village. My My was a great help on several occasions. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us.

Character galore in this charming house and village!
The property was exactly like in the pictures and description-all of the character and charm combined with the modern conveniences we wanted. The kitchen was really well supplied and everything was clean and ready for our arrival. We especially loved the private courtyard!!
The location couldn’t have been better, within the village and with all that lies around it to explore. We were able to do and see so much, everything was accessible from here.
The hosts were super helpful and nice! We found the guidebook in the house a terrific resource when choosing places to visit. We’d love to return someday!
Everything was absolutely magical!! The property was stunning!!! The kitchen was easy to navigate with all of the necessities!
The location was a dream, it truly felt like a travel back into the past. The locals bars and restaurants were wonderful to explore. The community was incredibly welcoming, and we were able to get advice on all of the best foods/activities in the surrounding areas.
The host were extremely thorough with their welcoming booklet with all of the details of what to do in the area.
The slow life of the village was the perfect recharge that we needed.
Can’t wait to return!!
Side note: the house itself was incredibly clean and smelled amazing!!
We spent two weeks at this perfectly located house in Issegiac. It had everything we wanted and needed and what lay beyond - in the village and the whole region - had some much more.
The property is cosy and comfortable but extremely well equipped - if so inclined you could return home to cook every meal (although the restaurants right nearby and in every town make it a hard choice).
The Sunday market in Issegiac is the best - the worst thing about it is that you will always buy more than you can eat.
We were only two but the house would be great for more - an ideal family space. It's outdoor space is perfect to have a morning coffee, read a book or give kids a place to play.
Would definitely go back and highly recommend.
This house is lovely, clean, tidy and literally everything you need.Kitchen fully equipped, and lots of basics in cupboards, salt, pepper, herbs. Oils etc.. the courtyard is a suntrap and great for outside dining. Lounge is on top floor, which is a wee bit strange, but quirky, we didnt use it and spent most of time round the big kitchen table or outside. Masses of little towns and villages to visit around and near Issygeac. Bergerac 15 mins away.Local spar is expensive, but handy in an emergency, bakery is fantastic and 2 mins from house. Hair dryer gave up and owner got her friend next door to let me borrow one...life saver. All in all a most enjoyable week in the Dordogne.
My sister and myself just had the “experience of our lives” living in Issigeac for two weeks and enjoying the 200 Year Old Stone House. So glad we met Lee-Anne who told us about the house and the VRBO site.
We were instantly enchanted with the village and each day we met more friends and cherished more memories. It is a warm and cozy village and the house is so authentic and inviting. Our days were spent touring the lovely countryside and coming back to “our paradise “ relaxing in the lovely yard and dining at the restaurants in town.
We had tears in our “eyes as we said Au Revoir”” to our friends and village life. We will be back someday as our karma found this paradise and Lee-Anne.💕
We spent a week in Issigeac in October visiting the Dordogne region. Issigeac is the perfect mix of local restaurants and shops…and has a SUPERB farmers market on Sunday mornings. The house is an absolutely charming period house that has all the modern conveniences. We enjoyed early evening drinks in the private courtyard and cooking our meals in the well-stocked kitchen.
There is also a small grocer/convenience stort a two-minute walk from the house that is open all week. We had diner at L’Atelier and la Brucelière and would recommend both if you want to experience excellent French cuisine. Be aware, however, that many businesses are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays during the off-season, which is the price you pay to avoid the summer crowds.
This is a charming spot in a historic village in a fabulous region of France. Loved our stay!
Our group of three adults and one tween just had a golden July week at this lovely house in Issegeac.
The house is a charming mix of old and new, with thick stone walls and wooden beams straight out of Shakespeare, accompanied by modern conveniences (including fast wifi) that made our stay a comfortable one. It was well stocked with kitchen and bath supplies, and we had so much fun shopping at the outstanding Sunday farmer's market and making ourselves delicious meals to eat out in the garden. The top floor has a nice selection of English language books along with toys for kids.
The village itself is unbelievably picturesque. We spent delightful moments wandering the winding passageways and frequenting the local artisans and restaurants. There is a boulangerie, grocery, bio store, pharmacy, etc. all easily walkable from the house. Issegeac also makes a perfect home base for exploring the Perigord region. Within about an hour's drive, we were able to explore prehistoric caves, Medieval towns, castles, and Renaissance chateaus, canoe down the Dordogne River, taste wine at several vineyards, and see Roman ruins.
We highly recommend spending a holiday at Joanna, Lee-Ann, and Doug's warm and welcoming house in Issegeac!
In October, Issigeac is pretty quiet except for Sunday market and some music Wednesday night at Andy’s Bar. I hear quite a bit busier in summer! I spent my days exploring the area on a bike and working at a friend’s farm near-by. Really enjoyed my stay here and highly recommend!
Charming medieval house in the centre of Issigeac. Everything was at our disposal and excellent communication from Lee-Anne when we cldnt find the hairdryer! So many different villages within half an hour’s drive and lots to do - lots of information about what to do etc was given and was v helpful! A lovely stay.
Issigeac is as charming as ever and this house is a lovely place from where to enjoy it. Comfortable and quiet, but close to the heart of the village. Recommended.

Great location
We had a wonderful stay a couple of small issues
Only 2 of six lights working in bathroom
and some people might find the lounge being on the top floor an issue
Found dishwasher full
I wanted to find a place to stay for a while (one month) to do some reading and writing. The house in Issigeac was perfect. In fact, if it hadn't already been booked, I would have preferred to spend yet another month.
House is full of character, yet easy to keep tidy. Everything works. Village is charming, friendly and has all one needs.
Will definitely think about a return visit.

Charming stone house in peaceful medieval village
I stayed in this home for the month of May and it was a marvellous escape. It is a beautiful historic home in the heart of a traditional french village. The people are friendly and everything is postcard perfect. The market on Sundays is the best I have seen in France! Many beautiful walks to take from the village on marked trails and with a car you can easily visit wineries, chateaus and the famous caves, Bordeaux and within a few hours you could even take a trip to Spain! (Lots of folks in town speak English if you don't speak French.) It was a wonderful time! Grateful for the experience!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stayed in Issigeac, the house was a perfect spot to not only relax in, but it's location was wonderful to explore the surrounding region, and a bit further a field (such as Lascaux). The garden was an oasis - a verdant, rosemary scented walled area that was just right for an early morning cup of tea. I even took a nap on the "grass" one day! We appreciated the kitchen and facilities from laundry to a dishwasher. The location was super convenient for exploring the village, the Sunday Market did not disappoint and boulangerie provided fresh baguette and patisseries! The selection of restaurants and cafes for a small village were outstanding and the artsy shops and boutiques were surprisingly sophisticated. All in all, a great stay - hope to be back one day and really get to know the region better!

Parfait!

A perfect home with mix of history and modern conveniences in a small but amazingly vibrant village
The home itself is wonderful. Lots of room for our family of 5; everything you could need from the fully equipped kitchen to the upper floor with amazing books and games. Mike and Joanna have taken the time to provide detailed information about the running of the house, and all that is happening and to be enjoyed in the village and area. With this information we had some of the most excellent adventures. Our first day we were thrilled with the huge market, followed that evening by a village wide music festival! Despite being a small village, there are great shops for food, wine, restaurants and local artisans. Whether you're looking for a home base for adventures or a sanctuary to simply sit in the courtyard and read a book, this home will be just what you need.

Wow, great house, wonderful village
We go to France almost every year and this was such a memorable trip. The house is great, everything you could want to cook, chill out and even all the stuff you need to make a picnic and take it with you. Beautiful lake nearby with a wonderful beach, great for kids. The village was really active with wonderful markets and other events. Sunday market is not to be missed and the food market in the week is a gem. Mike, the owner is great. Wonderful communication and nothing was a problem. Thanks for letting us stay Mike, well be back!
