About this property
Welcome to our romantic, traditional thatched blackhouse; an ideal retreat
The historic, quaint charm of this traditional island blackhouse gives way to the modern, warm interior of the property. The double bedroom features an impressive four poster bed and the bed linen and towels are included. The well equipped kitchen/living room contains everything you will need to enjoy your stay including TV/DVD player, chromecast, bluetooth sound bar and wifi. The property is accessed via a shared driveway with parking space situated next to the cottage. There is a 6kW EV charger for our guests' use (additional charges apply). 2 steps lead into the entrance with the bedroom, kitchen and bathroom leading off. The cottage is situated a short walk away from the stunning beach with its golden sand and turquoise sea. Guests have seen buzzards, owls and even Golden Eagles from the garden which features a rowing boat filled with fresh herbs for guests to pick and enjoy. We also have raised beds in the adjacent field, which was formerly part of the croft. Lettuce and veg will hopefully be growing in the veg beds, guests are welcome to harvest lettuce from the veg beds in exchange for pulling a few weeds out to keep them from getting overgrown, although there are no guarantees on what will be there during your stay. Our field also unobtrusively sites a bank of solar panels, reducing the global impact of the cottage. There are many walks that are suitable for all ages and abilities that offer a great way to engage with the unique landscape. The nature reserve at Balranald is easily reached with its rare birds including Corncrakes and Phalaropes. The dark skies are a haven for stargazers (particularly during the autumn and winter months) and keep an eye out for the Northern Lights too! The area is a paradise for: walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers, photographers, artists, astronomers, and people looking for a break from the hectic pace of daily life. North Uist can only be accessed by ferry or plane, making it very remote. The island is an incredibly friendly place, with the majority of drivers waving as they pass - even on the double track roads.

Well equipped and comfortably big enough for 2 people. Good location for touring North Uist and Berneray's beautiful beaches. The electric vehicle charging point is a real bonus.
Typical blackhouse accommodation, compact, but warm and cosy. Great location. The owners have made an attractive garden - unfortunately the weather was not nice enough to sit outside! Lots to do in the surrounding area, lovely walks and machair and birds.
Felt at home as soon as we walked through the door. Comfortable, clean, and well equipped. Well situated for all that this wonderful area has to offer.
The cottage was perfect....clean, cosy, excellent information in the cottage eg lights labelled, instructions for all appliances etc. Felted artwork beautiful. Yoh can see and feel the care and attention that has been put into making it a lovely place to stay.Good location for exploring outer islands ie close to ferry ports.
We came in need of a restful escape.
This charming accommodation gave us a welcome contrast to city life.
The island's beaches are breathtaking. The birdwatching opportunities were plentiful.
We loved it

what an outstanding property! the owner, Ian has done an exceptional job renovating and furnishing it. I really couldnt want for anything more. As a business traveller, i found the internet was excellent and the cottage has every amenity that i needed.
I will definately be staying here again
Thanks!
A lovely, traditional cottage, just right for two people. Extraordinarily well-equipped, comfortable and conveniently situated for accessing the ferry it is an excellent base for exploring the islands. The weather was also kind to us, 5 days of blue skies and sunshine, we couldn't have asked for more!
A truly wonder week. The Black House was warm and well lit. The surrounding scenery was gorgeous with breath takingly beautiful beaches. A paradise for bird watchers and nature lovers.
We will definitely return.
This charming traditional blackhouse has been refurbished with modern conveniences. Thick walls and thatch keep the inevitable wind and rain out. Many lovely beaches and walks to enjoy along with the wildlife. Peace and quiet were the hallmarks of this holiday.
First trip out after lockdown and it was so good to get away to somewhere as peaceful and friendly. Cottage was well equipped but excess things had been removed to aid cleaning at end so were struggled a little to cook properly. But very comfortable cosy house, perfect for two. Good location for beaches, walks, touring and Berneray Bistro. Very friendly neighbours
Better than the photos and super cute. The kitchen was a home from home and everything I needed was there in the kitchen. Even had a utensil jar with the same utensils as I have. And I have a lot! The shower was hot with good water pressure, and a very comfy bed with plenty of storage space in the bedroom. I could not fault it - though to be fair I did not go there looking for faults. The peace and quiet was what we wanted from this break - to recharge our batteries. We got this, and then some, on our trip to the Hebrides. First ever, but not our last!
This was our first trip to Uist and this lovely cottage was the perfect base camp. Located close to the beach with amazing bird life at the doorstep. The cottage is compact but has everything you need and we couldn't fault it. Having fallen in love with Uist we hope to come back again soon.
The cottage was very warm and comfortable with everything we needed. It is ideally located for beautiful walks on North Uist and Berneray and a bird-watchers dream!

First impressions of N Uist
We stayed for a week and the cottage is warm, comfortable and well equipped. Very easy to find and only 20 min from ferry terminal. Good base for exploring North & South Uists and Berneray. Our weather was pretty windy and we had some rain most days but not usually enough to prevent a good walk - beaches fabulous.

Cracking wee cottage with amazing location!
The property itself is amazing! Absolutely everything catered for, there was nothing we didn’t have to hand! Actually bigger inside than it looks from the outside and beautifully and tastefully renovated. Kitchen is fully equipped with everything you would ever need, dishwasher if you want to use it, washing machine in outside shed if required. Shower in bathroom is fabulous, good power and flow of water, nothing worse than a dribbling shower! Four poster bed is firm but very comfy and there is ample storage to put clothes away. We both loved our week in this lovely wee cottage and fell in love with North Uist, it’s just stunning!!

Simply stunning
A beautiful little cottage - comfortable, cosy and warm. All necessary equipment for cooking a full Christmas lunch! But, for me, the highlight was unquestionably the location. One can enjoy world class birdwatching from the garden, as the wildlife log testifies, and the stunning Clachan Sands is a short walk away. Great winter walking in the local area, one can only imagine how beautiful it is when the machair flowers.
